  • Patent number: 5871393
Abstract: When a mounting member employed for fine polishing of semiconductor substrates or glass substrates etc. is constituted of a combination of a sheet of continuous porous structure and a template, operating efficiency is lowered by the need to change the template; this is a factor raising production costs, and edge portions of the polishing workpiece get damaged by contact with the template, causing production of defective articles. By making the mounting member for polishing a member in which water repellence was conferred on at least a surface skin layer of a continuous sheet of porous structure, fine polishing without a template was made possible.

  • Patent number: 5866819
Abstract: A non-destructive method and apparatus for determining the thickness of individual layers of different materials in a multilayer structure particularly useful in analyzing the layers in a multilayer plastic fuel tank, utilizes a constant and relatively high frequency ultrasonic pulse transmitted into the multilayer structure and records the time when interference pulses are received to determine the thickness of the individual layers in the multilayer structure. The interference pulses are generated at the interface between adjacent layers of sufficiently different materials and thus, the time between interference pulses is a function of the amount of time needed for the ultrasonic pulse to pass through a layer of material.

  • Patent number: 5862762
Abstract: Combustible is comminuted and dried, and metal and noncombustible are removed from the coarsely comminuted combustible. Then, the combustible is secondarily comminuted and separated into coarse combustible and fluff which is fine combustible. The coarse combustible of the separated combustible is fed onto a fire grate (2) of a refuse incinerator (1), and burned in flat bed combustion in a primary combustion chamber (4). On the other hand, the fluff is burned in suspended combustion in a secondary combustion chamber (7) with a combustion fluff burner (5) for incinerating combustible. Thus, refuse containing much plastics which is formed into fluff can be efficiently disposed of, whereby the amount of incineration is increased as a whole.

  • Patent number: 5842455
Abstract: An accumulator and over-pressure relief valve unit disposed within a vehicle fuel tank to accommodate expansion of fuel due to heating of the fuel within the fuel system and to maintain increased pressure of heated fuel in the fuel system to prevent vapor formation and to provide an over-pressure relief to bleed fuel back into the fuel tank when the unit has reached its maximum fuel accumulating capacity. The accumulator has a plastic cap press fit onto a plastic body with a diaphragm received therebetween and defining an expansion chamber with the body. To provide a seal between the cap and body, they are preferably ultrasonically welded together. The diaphragm has a normally closed valve which, when opened, communicates the accumulator chamber with the fuel tank. This valve opens in response to any over-pressure that may develop after the accumulator has reached its maximum accumulating capacity to bypass fuel into the fuel tank and thereby limit the maximum pressure of the fuel in the fuel system.

  • Patent number: 5816233
Abstract: A composite reinforced limb of an archery bow is at least partially encased in a flexible plastic material which closely overlies and firmly engages the limb to substantially prevent the composite layers or fibers adjacent the limb from becoming detached from the limb. The plastic material is preferably in the form of a tube which contracts when heated and conforms to the shape of and firmly engages the limb. Encasing the limbs also reduces vibration of the limb and noise of the bow during use and thus, enhances the performance of the bow. Further, the tube encasing the limb tends to confine any pieces of the limb which may tend to injure an archer if the limb cracks, splinters or otherwise breaks in use.
