  • Patent number: 7048888
Abstract: An apparatus is provided to automatically cover and uncover crucibles according to a predetermined procedure in a proximate analyzer. A series of crucibles mounted in a first carousel is heated in a furnace. A second carousel mounted above the first carousel holds crucible covers. A mechanism synchronizes the movements of the carousels so that the heated crucibles are automatically covered and uncovered at the appropriate times during the analysis with a corresponding cover by lowering or raising the second carousel. The movements of both carousels are automatically controlled so that at appropriate points in the testing cycle they rotate simultaneously about a common central axis and a crucible is deposited on a weighing platform by controlling the vertical motion of the entire carousel apparatus. The crucible is weighed either with or without a crucible cover depending on the stage of the analysis without the need of manual intervention.

  • Patent number: 6734385
Abstract: A microwave plasma burner in which a high temperature plasma is generated. The microwave plasma burner includes a wave inducing tube for receiving and guiding microwaves from an antenna of a magnetron within a wave guide resonator, so as to generate a high temperature plasma by causing vibrations of an injected gas by the help of the microwaves while discharging the injected gas. The microwave plasma burner according to the present invention gives the following effects. A strong high temperature plasma can be generated with a structure not involving vacuum. The flames are generated by the heat which is generated by the vibrations of air, and therefore, a separate igniting device is not required. High temperature flames are generated, and therefore, the burner of the present invention can be used for welding and cutting. A complete combustion occurs due to the heat which is generated by the vibrations, and therefore, any air pollution can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6687945
Abstract: A paint roller apparatus for applying paint to a painted surface includes a rotating accessory arm. The rotating accessory arm is rotatably mounted on a handle of the paint roller apparatus such that the accessory arm rotates between a first position wherein an accessory or the accessory arm is substantially proximate to a cylindrical roller of the paint roller apparatus and a second position where the accessory arm is at an angle of substantially ninety degrees to a plane defined by the longitudinal axes of the handle and the roller. A switch assembly located on the handle provides for rotation of the accessory arm with minimal effort on the part of the user. The switch assembly may include a locking mechanism to lock the accessory arm into the first position and second position so that the accessory arm does not rotate inadvertently.

  • Patent number: 6659382
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying mobile phones and other hand-held devices comprising a clamping system, a retracting system, and a positioning system. The clamping system holds a hand-held device between two parts, which are fastened together by a fitting and a security screw having a head with a slot requiring a special key. The retracting system includes a retractable tethering cable wound on a spool. The positioning system includes a male component, which anchors the tethering cable to the fitting, and a female component, which is mounted on the retracting system. The tethering cable passes through the female component of the positioning system so that when the hand-held device is retracted, the male component of the positioning system is received by the female component thus assuring proper orientation of the hand-held device on display.

  • Patent number: 6657224
Abstract: The present invention relates to multi-layered organic light emitting diode devices having hole-injection and/or hole-transport layers comprising aryl amine compounds with relatively high glass transition temperatures (i.e., thermostable aryl amine compounds). Such multi-layered OLED devices allow for a staircase change in the energy difference of holes and electrons as they migrate from the electrodes toward the emitter layer, resulting in a lower operating voltage and a high quantum yield of luminescence for a given current density. The present invention also relates to microdisplay devices comprising multi-layered organic light emitting diode devices having hole-injection and/or hole-transport layers comprising thermostable aryl amine compounds.

  • Patent number: 6653630
Abstract: Scanning probe apparatus, including a tip-electrode which is coupled to be held at a substantially ground potential, a counter-electrode which is positioned in proximity to the tip-electrode, a voltage source, coupled to maintain the counter-electrode at a non-ground potential, and positioning-instrumentation, which is adapted to maintain the tip-electrode at a suitable position relative to a surface of a ferroelectric sample located in a space between the tip-electrode and the counter-electrode. The apparatus generates an electric field in the ferroelectric sample greater than a coercive field of the sample.

  • Patent number: 6608439
Abstract: An integrated organic light emitting diode (OLED) color display device is disclosed. The OLED display device comprises at least one pixel element (10) capable of emitting visible light of varying wavelengths. Pixel element (10) may comprise: a substrate (100), an addressable two-dimensional matrix of organic light emitting diodes (120) that emits monochrome light, a color conversion matrix element (110) capable of absorbing the monochrome light and re-emitting that light at different wavelengths, and cover element (130). Color conversion matrix element (110) may further comprise at least one red color converting subelement (111), at least one green color converting subelement (112), and at least one blue color converting subelement (113). The color converting subelements (111, 112, and 113) may further comprise semiconductor nanocrystals (140) uniformly dispersed in a transparent organic binding material (150).

  • Patent number: 6608283
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method of solder-sealing an active matrix OLED display using a monochromatic solid-state laser beam (1). The solder-sealing apparatus comprises a cover assembly (13) adapted to be positioned over at least one OLED (11) on a substrate (10), a sealing band (12) surrounding each OLED, a chuck assembly (20) with an array of heat sinks (21) that align with the OLEDs, a pick-up assembly (30) with at least one aperture (33), and a flange assembly (132) to which a solder pre-form (133) is secured. The chuck assembly (20) receives, aligns and orients the substrate (10). A vacuum is then applied through each aperture (33) to align and hold the cover assembly (13) in place. The sealing band (12) and solder pre-form (133) are aligned and pressed together by the pick-up assembly (30), and the focused laser beam (1) is projected through the chuck assembly to seal the OLEDs (11) within the cover assembly (13).

  • Patent number: 6604914
Abstract: This pump has two end chambers (2, 3) in which are housed two pistons (4, 5) which pump sea water towards an reverse osmosis membrane (7), and a central chamber (8) in which a sliding block is housed, activated by displacement of the pistons (4 and 5) performing the piloting of a directional valve (9). This pump alternatively provokes the inversion of the external pressure intake towards the front areas of the end chambers (2, 3) and the inversion of the pressure intake of the water rejected by the membrane towards the rear areas of said chambers (2, 3).
