  • Patent number: 4106627
Abstract: An apparatus for use in separation and recovery of pieces of different materials according to the difference in electric conductivity of each kind of materials, by utilizing the interaction between a magnetic field, induced by the eddy current and an external magnetic field. The separating capability of the apparatus of the type is largely dependent upon the shape of pieces being separated as well as the difference in electric conductivity between the pieces of different materials. According to the apparatus of the present invention, samples to be separated are rolled into a flat shape, then subjected to the screening, followed by their passing through a plurality of rotating magnetic fields whose intensities are being increased one by one, whereby the sample pieces are separated effectively according to their electric conductivity, and thus recovered.

  • Patent number: 4097349
Abstract: Sulfur dioxide (SO.sub.2) and oxides of nitrogen (NO.sub.x) are effectively and economically removed from a gaseous combustion products stream by photochemical conversion of the gaseous SO.sub.2 and NO.sub.x components into particulates (aerosols and mists). The reactive hydrocarbon (RHC) and oxygen deficient fossil fuel combustion products can be converted into a highly photochemically reactive RHC,SO.sub.2,NO.sub.x (NO,NO.sub.2),O.sub.2,H.sub.2 O gaseous mixture by the introduction of sufficient quantities of a reactive hydrocarbon, such as an olefin, and oxygen or oxygen containing air. The reactant mixture is then irradiated with electromagnetic waves of the 1,500A to 7,500A band of the spectrum, which irradiation is followed by ammonia injection, if desired, to promote particulate formation.

  • Patent number: 4094505
Abstract: The shaft of the tennis racket is split between the handle and the head into two basic parts, so that a first part cantilevered from the grip supports the head, preferably with a journal, at its inner end while the second part supports the head at its outer end, preferably with a journal. The two shaft parts are unconnected so that they will flex independently of each other to maintain the head generally parallel with the axis of the grip independently of the force or positioning of the ball on the strings of the head. The shaft part that is connected between the grip and the outer end of the head is removable or displacable from the head to allow stringing of the head, and reassembly to overlie and protect the string holes along the side of the head.

  • Patent number: 4088183
Abstract: A thermal energy storage tank charged with a phase changeable thermal energy storage material produces a partial pressure variation due to the flow of a heat transfer medium, when passing through the thermal energy storage material. An attempt is made to provide the uniform phase changeable of the thermal energy storage material by passing the heat transfer medium therethrough, over the throughout of the thermal energy storage material, by providing a variety to the flow direction of the heat transfer medium. For instance, according to the achievement of uniform flow of heat transfer medium in the vertical direction, there may be attained uniform phase changeable both in an upper portion and in a lower portion of the thermal energy storage material.

  • Patent number: 4084537
Abstract: The invention relates to a flank drive for propelling a boat wherein a plurality of propeller housings are rotatably mounted in a wheel body about and in driving engagement with a normally stationary guide wheel centrally of the wheel body, which wheel body is rotated about its own central axis by means of a propulsion motor to carry the housings about the wheel body axis and rotate the housings about their own axes, so that the propeller housings undergo epicyclic motion. The propeller blade in each propeller housing can be adjusted relative to its housing passively by relative motion between abuttments or positively by means of an automatic hydraulic control to the most effective angle of attack, whereby the blades mainly exert flank force to the surrounding water. The guide wheel may be swivelled to steer the boat.

  • Patent number: 4082615
Abstract: A thermal decomposition process and apparatus of the fluidized bed type for organic solid materials, particularly organic solid waste material contained in urban rubbish comprising a fluidized bed thermal decomposition furnace, the interior of which is divided by a partition plate into two zones, namely a first zone for thermally decomposing the organic solid waste material in the absence of oxygen and a second zone mainly for burning the carbonized material produced as a result of thermal decomposition of the organic solid waste material. Non-condensable components of the gas resulting from the thermal decomposition of the organic solid waste material are recirculated as fluidizing gas into the first zone, while air is used as the fluidizing gas for the second zone. Heat for the thermal decomposition in the first zone is obtained from the combustion in the second zone and transferred by the intertransfer of fluidized solids between zones beneath the partition plate.
