  • Patent number: 5062953
Abstract: Apparatus for removing oil from the surface of a liquid, such as a coolant, employing an endless belt partially submerged in the liquid passing through the surface. The belt is threaded over the upper portion of a primary drive roller having a horizontal axis and pressure rollers mounted upon linkage sets are biased towards opposite sides of the primary roller in engagement with the belt to squeeze the collected oil from the belt permitting the oil to flow to a collector located below the rollers. The linkage sets include reversing rollers, and the apparatus is constructed to readily permit belt replacement.

  • Patent number: 5029512
Abstract: A silencer or noise suppressor for firearms consisting of an elongated body connected to the firearm muzzle into which the expanding gases and projectile are received. The expanding gases are initially received within a chamber and pass through ports defined in a deceleration plate into a chamber communicating with a plurality of baffles arranged in end-to-end relationship. The baffles each include a diverging bore through which the gases may expand, and externally, each baffle includes a spiral vane receiving the expanding and cooling gases. The vanes of adjacent baffles are in communication whereby gas back-pressure within portions of the vanes cause localized gas compression slowing gas expansion and the generation of audible frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5026096
Abstract: An axial force resisting pipe coupling for coupling pipes in aligned end-to-end relation. The coupling is of a simplified, economical construction comprising a plurality of axially aligned spaced clamps, including a central clamp and two outrigger clamps, attached to a common bar, and the coupling may be formed by retrofitting an existing central clamp with the outrigger clamps and bar. Each of the clamps consist of a generally circular band terminating in opposed connecting end flanges and are attached to the bar at the flanges by fasteners which also facilitate circumferential contraction and expansion of the clamps. Projections may be formed on the bands for embedding into the pipe members to minimize the likelihood of the pipes pulling apart due to high tension forces.

  • Patent number: 5015378
Abstract: Apparatus for removing oil from the surface of a liquid using an endless belt partially submerged in the liquid, the belt passes over a primary roller having a vertical axis and pressure rollers squeeze the belt on the primary roller removing oil from the belt which flows by gravity to a collection receptacle mounted upon a frame supporting the primary roller and its drive structure. The belt twists whereby its lower portion submerged in the liquid defines a reversing loop whose configuration is maintained by a weight roller having a horizontal axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5001947
Abstract: The invention relates to ratchet wrenches having a torque transfer member rotatably mounted on one end of a handle. The improvement comprises a pair of reinforcing plates mounted on the central portion of the handle having a polygonal shaped opening which extends through the plates and handle adapted to releasably receive one end of a socket extension. When the extension is inserted in the opening the combination of the handle and extension form a T shape whereby the ends of the handle are utilized to rotate the extension to transmit high torques for heavy duty applications which might not otherwise be possible with the ratchet torque transfer member.

  • Patent number: 5003449
Abstract: The invention relates to an improvement in light fixtures of the type having a base, a socket receiving a bulb, and a primary reflector defined on the base located in relatively close proximity to the bulb. The improvement consists of a secondary reflector located between the primary reflector and the bulb. The secondary reflector is closely spaced from the primary reflector defining an air gap therebetween. The secondary reflector provides dispersion of concentrated heat produced by the bulb to maintain the primary reflector at a lower temperature whereby the air gap reduces heat transfer between the reflectors, and the secondary reflector is formed of a reflective material to provide improved light reflectance qualities.

  • Patent number: 5000487
Abstract: A frangible, circumferentially contractible clamp operated by a band constricting actuator for securing a pair of flange end pipe members in aligned end-to-end relation. The clamp includes a band consisting of retainer halves which are fastened together by frangible fasteners to form an envelope adapted to embrace and secure the aligned flanges together upon tightening of the actuator. Upon the associated pipes being subjected to exceptional tensile or bending forces, the fasteners will fracture permitting the retainer halves to separate to allow the flanges to separate and prevent the pipes from being damaged.

  • Patent number: 4986675
Abstract: A self-aligning bearing having a generally cylindrical body including an outer cylindrical surface and circumferentially spaced projections formed on the body having an outer diameter slightly greater than the diameter of the socket in which the bearing is received. The bearing is provided with a bore to rotatably receive the shaft of a rotational component and is pressed into a generally cylindrical socket wherein the projections shave at least some axial length of the inside wall of the socket to a precise fit preventing rotation of the bearing therein. The precise fit extends a relatively short axial distance, resulting in clearance features between the outer surface of the assembled bearing and the socket wall which permit limited angular displacement of the bearing and allow the bearing to self align relative to the socket and yet maintain sufficient alignment to permit easy assembly of a shaft within the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4986534
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method and apparatus for biomechanically analyzing the physical characteristics of the lower extremety including hip, knee and ankle joints and the muscles and ligaments, and the functioning thereof. A frame includes a weight sensing platform and a foot support in the form of a disc is mounted above the platform for nutation about a vertical axis. The periphery of the disc engages the platform, and actuates platform switches whereby a patient standing upon the disc with one foot may angularly displace the disc in a nutating manner applying weight to the platform through the disc periphery, and recording apparatus in the form of computerized data and a visual display permits analysis of the application of weight to the platform. The disc may be selectively vertically adjustable relative to the platform to vary the analysis characteristics.
