  • Patent number: 4979761
Abstract: A suspension for skis including a pair of vertically spaced plates, the lower plate being mounted to the ski and the upper plate having a boot attached thereon. Compression springs interposed between the suspension plates absorb shock and impact, and the suspension includes lateral alignment stabilizers and pivoted links interconnecting the plates which permit vertical movement but restrain the plates against lateral angular variations whereby the pressure applied to the ski edges is maintained during vibration absorbing. A foam material between the plates damps the suspension action and protects the interior components.

  • Patent number: 4971367
Abstract: The invention pertains to the method and apparatus of compensating for the axial bearing load forces imposed upon rotary joints conveying a pressurized fluid medium, such as steam, by imposing an axial force on the rotary joint housing proportional to the pressure within the rotary joint by use of a distinctively different pressurized medium than that conveyed by the joint, such as compressed air. An expansible chamber motor capable of imposing an axial force on the rotary joint utilizes compressed air whose pressure is controlled by a sensing and regulating system responsive to the pressure within the rotary joint.

  • Patent number: 4971096
Abstract: A reconnectable frangible coupling wherein at least one coupling part includes an operating valve and a safety valve. The operating valve utilizes the relative axial movement of the coupling parts during coupling and uncoupling to open and close, respectively, and the spring biased safety valve is engaged and retained in an open position by a valve retainer interposed between the valves. Frangible portions maintain the valve retainer in engagement with the safety valve and upon the coupling being subjected to severe impact, such as an aircraft crash, the frangible portions fracture permitting the valve retainer to disengage from the safety valve allowing the safety valve to close.

  • Patent number: 4970998
Abstract: A pawl for a recoil starters for internal combustion engines wherein the pawl radially extends into a driving relationship with the engine to be started during cranking and retracts during recoiling of the starter mechanism or upon engine starting. The invention utilizes a pawl having a non-linear configuration wherein an increased pawl angle is achieved with respect to the operating mechanism to rapidly position the pawl during the engine cranking operation, and the pawl outer end approaches a tangential relationship to the engine mounted abutment engaged by the pawl end to improve the pawl engagement with the abutment and limit concentric misalignment of the starter with the engine during cranking.

  • Patent number: 4969923
Abstract: A circumferential safety latch clamp for securing a pair of pipe members together operated by a lever actuator wherein a lever is pivotally mounted upon one end of the clamp band positionable between a latch position and an open position having portions releasably engagable with an anchor mounted on the other end to draw the band ends toward each other. A retainer assembly limits movement of the lever in the opening direction to a safety release position whereby the lever portions maintain engagement with the anchor limiting displacement of the band ends away from each other allowing partial expansion of the clamp band.
