    Abstract: The calibration standard has artificial defects of a predetermined uniform size disposed on selected areas of a substrate. The artificial defects are randomly spaced within the selected area and of a sufficient density as to be visually discernable through a CRT display or other output device. The selected areas in which the artificial defects are disposed are formed by positioning a mask above the substrate. The open areas of the mask correspond to the selected areas on which the artificial defects are disposed. The form of these open areas may correspond to a character representing the predetermined size of the artificial defect. If this is the case, the operator can determine the size of the artificial defects on a substrate without reference to any external source.

    Abstract: A low-density, porous material is prepared by mixing together microballoons and an oligomeric precursor to a polyesterimide polymer. The oligomeric precursor has an initial viscosity sufficiently low that it can flow and wet the microballoons when first heated to a polymerization processing temperature, and thereafter polymerize. Fibers may be controllably incorporated into the material during processing to impart specific properties, and air may be controllably incorporated into the material during processing to further decrease its density.

The method includes using the expected initial conditions of the process to determine the gas-mass cumulative exhaust at room temperature and pressure. The method is advantageous over inlet measuring methods where high pressure gas must be measured and any small hole in the system results in large errors.

    Abstract: Wheelbarrow attachments for releasably supporting tools having rod-like handles, such as rakes, shovels, and the like, and for storing small hand tools and the like, are provided. One attachment comprises at least one generally L-shaped bracket having first and second legs. The first leg of each bracket is configured to be mounted to the wheelbarrow frame beneath the tray, and the second leg is configured to extend upwardly along one side of the wheelbarrow tray. A gripping clip for releasably supporting a rod-like handle of a tool is secured to the second leg of each generally L-shaped bracket. Another attachment comprises a box-like enclosure mounted below the tray of the wheelbarrow and having an opening in the end thereof facing the rearward end of the wheelbarrow, for receiving small hand tools therein.

The unit includes a port in fluid communication with the body cavity through which the contaminated gas passes to an evacuation connector having a first end in fluid communication with the port and a second end and an aerosol trap in fluid communication with the second end of the evacuation connector such that the aerosol-containing gas is able to flow from the connector through the aerosol trap whereby the aerosolized fluids or other contaminants in the gas are prevented from entering the atmosphere of the operating room. The connector preferably has a flow control valve between the ends.

    Abstract: A method of fabricating a structural panel having a predetermined shape features forming an inflatable envelope assembly from at least a pair of superplastically formed and diffusion bonded metallic core sheets. The inflatable envelope assembly can be disposed between first and second metallic face sheets which are generally superplastically formed into the predetermined shape prior to being assembled. Thereafter, the assembled face sheets and the inflatable envelope assembly can be superplastically formed and diffusion bonded to form an integral structure, such as structural panel having a compound curvature. Alternatively, the inflatable envelope assembly can be disposed between a pair of reinforced titanium composite sheets. The reinforced titanium composite sheets can also be joined to adjacent face sheets, such as by welding or diffusion bonding, such that an integral structural panel having the predetermined shape can be readily fabricated.

    Abstract: Methods for sterilizing an instrument contaminated with biological matter are disclosed. The apparatus generally includes a container for containing a room temperature antimicrobial solution and a lid that can seal the container such that a gas is trapped within the container and above the antimicrobial solution. The apparatus provides a pressure, independent of heat, within the sealed container to greater than one atmosphere. Vibration is also provided to vibrate the container, and its contents, such that biological matter on the instruments is removed and all microbes on the instrument are exposed to the antimicrobial solution. The pressure drives and forces the antimicrobial solution into the cracks and crevices of the instrument and also into the outer membrane of the microbe, which can be first softened or attenuated by the vibrations.

The first and second members of the holder define respective apertures that are aligned with the breach in the pad when the first and second members are joined together to enclose the pad.
