  • Patent number: 4938366
Abstract: A display unit for articles comprises a plurality of elongate channels 3 suspended one from the other. Each of the channels 3 is of generally J-shaped cross-section for supporting the articles in the troughs thereby formed. Each longer arm of the J-shaped channel has a hook 3a which is engageable with the shorter arm of a J-shaped channel above. On the uppermost channel 3, the hook 3a is engageable with a bracket 2a or other support on a display surface 1 so as to provide a suspended tiered display. Struts in the form of sockets fixed to the rear of the channels 3 and rods 4 engaged in the sockets act as supports for the channels 3 against the mounting surface 1.

  • Patent number: 4937394
Abstract: Novel, composited silica catalyst supports suitable for commercial utilization, which may typically have an average pore diameter in the range of about 100 to about 5000 Angstroms, an advantageously high surface area in the range of about 30 to about 125 square meters per gram and a bulk density in the range of about 0.3 to about 0.6 gram per cubic centimeter, are made by mixing amorphous silica powder having an average particle size in the range of about 10 to about 50 millimicrons with a medium suitable for binding the silica powder. The mixture of silica powder and binder is formed into suitable, macrosized catalyst support shapes by press molding, extrusion, tableting and like forming means. The shaped mixture of silica powder and binder is calcined to form the novel silica catalyst supports.

  • Patent number: 4936487
Abstract: An apparatus for treating burn and scald wounds and localized disorders on portions of the human body which involves rapid cooling thereof by spraying a liquid from a first hand-held container onto the human body portion to be treated to form thereon a film of the liquid. Thereafter, a refrigerant is sprayed onto the film of liquid from a second hand-held container, the refrigerant being at a temperature low enough and at a flow rate high enough to freeze a substantial portion of the film of liquid. The human body portion is thereby rapidly cooled by heat absorbed by the frozen film.

  • Patent number: 4937687
Abstract: A memory unit adapted for use with an electronic computer or the like. In the unit, a data-clock pulse train regenerated by a head is discriminated into a data pulse train and a clock pulse train by a discrimination circuit in accordance with a phase-variable gate signal outputted from a gate circuit, and any error in each of such discriminated pulse trains is detected by a regeneration error detection circuit. Meanwhile, when a discrimination phase margin of the gate signal outputted from the gate circuit has become narrower than a predetermined value, such state is detected by a phase margin detection circuit, so that any regeneration error in the data-clock pulse train can be detected with a high precision.

  • Patent number: 4934352
Abstract: A surgical retractor designed to retract large areas in abdominal cavity surgery. The retractor is comprised of a handle that may be used interchangeably with different sized retractor blades to suit a particular surgical purpose. The handle is disposed or can be adjusted to be disposed at an angle of generally 90.degree. with respect to the retractor blade to afford an easier and more comfortable hold and pull than that experienced with any other designed retractor. The retractor may be fitted with one large retractor blade where previously two or three small retractors were used, and is, therefore, useful in small hospitals in major surgery such as aneurysms, Whipples and node dissections.

  • Patent number: 4932072
Abstract: A mobile station equipment for a mobile radio telephone system uses a voltage-controlled, temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (VC-TCXO) as a reference oscillator for local oscillators in frequency converters which convert an RF signal into IF signals. The oscillation frequency of the VC-TCXO is controlled by counting the second IF information and evaluating its difference from a certain reference value. At reception, the local oscillators have their reference frequency stabilized based on the stable frequency information from the base station. The equipment is compact and has reduced power dissipation and lower manufacturing cost.

  • Patent number: 4930713
Abstract: The known mill roll stand in a feeding apparatus of a rolled sheet of the type including at least one pair of arms having rolling centers at their tip ends and constructed so as to be swingable about an arm shaft at their base ends and so as to be movable along the arm shaft to approach to or separate from each other, is improved so that when the rolling centers are raised by swinging up the arms so as to meet with sheet rolls having different roll diameters, the rolling centers may be raised along a vertical straight line locus rather than an arc-shaped locus. The improvements reside in that the opposite ends of the arm shaft are eccentrically and pivotably supported from rotary supports on a frame of the mill roll stand, and that there is provided converter mechanism for converting the swinging locus of the rolling center into a locus along a vertical straight line.

  • Patent number: 4929081
Abstract: A pattern defect detecting system for an integrated semiconductor circuit or the like, utilizing the phenomenon that in the case of a test pattern having regularity, the intensity of diffracted light appearing on a back-focal plane of a lens is high, while defects or foreign matters not having regularity are low in the intensity of diffracted light. As a concrete example, an optical space modulator is used to record only an intense light portion in real time. The recorded diffraction pattern can be erased easily by, for example, application of voltage and radiation of light. A spatial filter can be prepared in real time in 1:1 correspondence to a test sample. Besides, even in the case of change of test pattern, an immediate action can be taken for continuous detection of defects, thus permitting test on-line.

  • Patent number: 4928014
Abstract: Method and simplified, lower cost apparatus for determining percent fat in a body wherein near-infrared radiation from at least one, and preferably a single pair of IREDs is transmitted into the body to achieve optical interactance between the body and the near-infrared radiation. Optical absorption by the body at only one bandwidth of the near-infrared radiation is measured. The measured absorption at the one bandwidth of near-infrared radiation is utilized to quantitatively determine the fat content of the body. Data on a plurality of physical parameters of the body, such as height, weight, exercise level, sex, race, waist-to-hip measurement and arm circumference, can be utilized along with the measured near-infrared absorption in the quantitative determination of body fat content. Advantageously, there is no need for labor-intensive factory calibration of each production unit.
