Abstract: A continuous process for producing pretzels is disclosed in which an essentially dry mixture containing flour, corn starch hydrolysates and salt is introduced into an extruder; water is injected into the extruder barrel to bring the water level of the mixture to between 19% and 25%; the material is extruded at non-cooking temperature to form a self-supporting ribbon of extrudate; the extrudate is sprayed with a caustic solution; and the sprayed extrudate is baked. The claimed process is adaptable to the continuous production of a filled pretzel product.
Abstract: A radioaerosol delivery apparatus particularly adapted for the subsequent disposal of radioactively contaminated elements is described. The apparatus includes a shielding container including an outer shell and an inner shell supported within the outer shell. The inner shell is formed with an inner wall and an outer wall defining a space therebetween for receiving radiation shielding material. The inner wall is formed to provide a surface conforming substantially to the contour of the radioaerosol source and a surface conforming substantially to the contour of a portion of a transport manifold supported thereon. A removable cover including radiating shielding material is formed with a portion conforming generally to the contour of the transport manifold. The inner wall of the container and the cover define at least one opening therebetween to permit fluid communication from the transport manifold to a patient utilizing the apparatus.

Abstract: The washing machine has a prewash chamber (11), a clear wash chamber (2), and a rinse chamber (3) in a tube (4). The chambers are separated from each other by separating walls (5, 6) having transfer openings. During the cycle period, which is defined by successive transfers of the laundry from one respective chamber (1, 2, 3) to the next, the rinse water in the rinse chamber (3) is changed more than once. The first rinse water is collected in a tank (47) and heated to the clear wash temperature during the cycle period. Before the end of the cycle the prewash water is drained from the prewash chamber (1) and the preheated clear wash water is filled into the prewash chamber (1). At the end of the cycle, the prewashed laundry together with the clear wash water passes into the clear wash chamber (2). This chamber can be heated via a steam connector fitting (43).
Abstract: A crunchy fruit brittle is produced by chopping apples or pieces thereof into particles having a critical size distribution; admixing the apple particles with a binder/texturizer composition containing a crystallizable sugar; sheeting the mixture; and drying the mixture to a moisture content from about 0% to 3.0%.

Abstract: An electronic control device for internal-combustion engines wherein the quantity of air taken in is decreased when the engine speed is greater than a target value, that is, when the deviation of the number of revolutions of engine is positive, with the engine in a slow-speed hunting state, and the quantity of air taken in is increased when the engine speed is less than a target value, that is, when the deviation of the number of revolutions is negative, or wherein the quantity of air taken in is decreased when at least one of the quantity of air taken into the engine, intake pipe pressure, and a value obtained by dividing the quantity of air taken in by the number of revolutions is greater than the target value, that is, when the deviation is positive, with the engine in the slow-speed hunting state, and also the quantity of air taken in is increased when it is less than the target value, that is, when the deviation is negative, thereby controlling the aforementioned parameters to their target values and acc
Abstract: An amplitude-adaptive vector quantization system intended for efficient signal coding and decoding. A mean value separation circuit (2) separates the mean value from an input signal which has been divided into blocks, and a tree-search vector quantizer (6) implements tree-search inner product vector quantization so that index information is truncated depending on the detected vector amplitude, thereby reducing the volume of information for transmission.

Abstract: A chisel for rotationally disengaging a threaded bolt, nut or screw, has at one end thereof a cutting edge for cutting into and penetrating a surface of the bolt. The chisel further includes a first chisel face terminating at the cutting edge of the chisel, and a stop face positioned away from the cutting edge with the first chisel face disposed between the stop face and the cutting edge. The stop face is at an angle of about 90 degrees or less with respect to the first chisel face. The cutting edge has a width that is about equal to or greater than the distance between the stop face and the cutting edge. The stop face prevents further penetration of the cutting edge into the bolt beyond the stop face so as to provide for application of rotational force to the bolt by the chisel without further penetration of the cutting edge into the bolt.
Abstract: Crude trifluralin is subjected to a purification treatment to remove nitrosamines therefrom and to improve its content of the active principle. The treatment consists of passing through the trifluralin, kept in the liquid state at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 110.degree. C., a quantity of from 1 to 4 times its weight of saturated steam at 105.degree. to 110.degree. C.The nitrosamine content of the treated trifluraline is less than 1 ppm.
Abstract: The level of the nitrosamines which may be present in the unrefined trifluralin is reduced to a value below 0.5 ppm, by treating the unrefined trifluralin under agitation, at a temperature from 60.degree. to 90.degree. C., for a time between 10 minutes and 4 hours, with an aqueous solution containing from 15 to 50% by weight of hydrobromic acid in a ratio of 0.2 to 0.8 liters per kilogram of unrefined trifluralin, said aqueous solution of hydrobromic acid being added with an amount of sulfamic acid from 0.1 to 3 g per liter of solution and with an amount of bisulfite or an alkali metal corresponding to a content of sulphur dioxide from 0.3 to 1.2 g per liter of said hydrobromic acid aqueous solution. The so obtained refined trifluralin has a content of nitrosamines which is lower than 0.1 ppm.
Abstract: A product display and dispensing unit comprises a plurality of juxtaposed compartments made from body members and side panels. Keys are provided on the body members and engage complementary slots on the side panels. Each slot accommodates two keys, one key of a comaprtment located at either side of the panels. The lid comprises a plate member having a handle and an upper lip which engages dowels in the side panels.

Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a semiconductor device comprising melting an amorphous or polycrystalline first semiconductor layer formed on the surface of a first dielectric layer by irradiating energy rays thereon, and converting the same into single crystals by the subsequent lowering of the temperature and forming a second dielectric layer and a second semiconductor layer on the first semiconductor layer. Energy rays are irradiated under the condition capable of melting the first semiconductor layer through the second semiconductor layer and the second dielectric layer and, after the completion of the conversion into single crystals, the second semiconductor layer and the second dielectric layer are eliminated through etching.
