  • Patent number: 4869911
Abstract: An expanded farinaceous food product is produced without the use of a drying apparatus. A farinaceous food mixture containing from about 5 weight percent to about 17 weight percent of at least one plasticizer selected from monosaccharides, polysaccharides, and edible alcohols and having a moisture content of from about 9% to about 17% is plasticized in an extruder barrel having a barrel pressure equal to or in excess of the vapor pressure of the water in the mixture; and the plasticized mixture is extruded through a profile die into a zone of ambient pressure below the vapor pressure of the water in the mixture.

  • Patent number: 4869333
Abstract: A motor-driven type power steering control device includes a control unit. When the control unit detects that power elements are short-circuited or in an open state, the control unit cuts off a current supplied from the power elements to a motor and a voltage applied to an electromagnetic clutch. By modifying a control program for the control unit, it is possible to attain the measures for preventing that burning of a wiring or a battery from dying upon short-circuiting of the power elements and the measures for preventing that only one side of a steering wheel becomes light to steer upon breakage of the power elements.

  • Patent number: 4868410
Abstract: In the load flow calculating method of the present invention, a Jacobian matrix for reactive power with respect to voltage is made to coincide with a part of a Jacobian matrix for effective power with respect to phase by introducing variables of the quotients of differences between effective power and reactive power flowing through each node and specified values divided by the square of voltage on each node, whereby the need for triangular factorization of the Jacobian matrix for reactive power with respect to voltage is eliminated, and, at the time of calculating a voltage correction amount, the voltage correction amount is compensated by the use of the product of a Jacobian matrix for reactive power with respect to phase and a vector of phase correction amount, and by virtue of the needlessness of triangular factorization of the Jacobian matrix for reactive power with respect to voltage and nonnecessity, at the time of calculating the voltage correction amount, for calculating discrepancy of reactive power

  • Patent number: 4868351
Abstract: An input pen of data input tablet comprising a magnetic core which is positioned at the data input tablet side end of a pen case and passes a magnetic flux generated from the data input tablet, a conductive holder for holding this core, a detection coil wound around on the core, and a lead wire led out from the coil in close contact with the holder. The magnetic flux generated by the current flowing into electrodes formed in the data input tablet is detected by the detection coil, thereby detecting a position on the data input tablet. A protective tube which covers at least the detection coil and magnetic core to protect the coil and core is also provided. An annular shield case formed of metal or other conductive material and functioning as an electromagnetic and electrostatic shield near the protective tube is provided in another embodiment.

  • Patent number: 4865820
Abstract: A gas mixer and distributor for a reactor has first and second inlet chambers with the second inlet chamber being interposed between the first inlet chamber and an entrance to a reaction chamber. Walls form tubular or slit-like passageways extending from the first chamber to the entrance of the reaction chamber through the second chamber. Upper portions of the passageways have uniform cross-sections selected to produce gas velocities above the flashback velocity, as well as producing turbulence to completely mix gas passing from the second chamber through orifices in the walls of the passageways. Lower sections of the passageways gradually increase in cross-section to reduce velocity and minimize vortexing and recirculation at the entrance to the reactor chamber.

  • Patent number: 4865156
Abstract: Method and apparatus for changing oil in an internal combustion engine pierces an outer wall of an old oil filter containing old motor oil to form an opening in a lower portion of the filter wall. Old motor oil is drawn from the pierced oil filter into a container by suction through the filter wall opening and a suction conduit. The oil drain plug from a crankcase containing old motor oil is removed to form a drain opening in the crankcase, and old motor oil is drawn from the crankcase into a container by suction through the drain opening and a suction cup, to empty the crankcase of old motor oil. The drain opening is closed after emptying the crankcase of old motor oil by securing the drain plug in the drain opening. The pierced and drained old oil filter is replaced with a new filter and the drained crankcase is refilled with fresh motor oil.

  • Patent number: 4862776
Abstract: A drain plug removing device includes a clip for rotatably engaging and selectively holding a head of a threaded drain plug. The clip has an axis of rotation and includes a pair of openable jaws urged together by a spring. The device includes a selectively bendable, flexible shaft attached to the clip at one end thereof, the shaft being formed of a reboundable coil spring extending away from the clip along the axis of rotation of the clip when the shaft is in an unflexed configuration. The shaft has a handle at another end thereof opposite the clip, such that rotation of the handle applies rotational force to the shaft, which in turn applies rotational force to the clip to cause rotation of the clip and a drain plug held therein. A drain plug can be removed from a crankcase oil pan with the device of the invention without spilling oil onto the fingers and without dropping the plug into a drainage catch basin or funnel beneath the oil pan.

  • Patent number: 4864144
Abstract: A radiation dosimeter includes an optical waveguide enclosing a radiation-sensitive material that changes color or color intensity with increasing amounts of exposure to high energy ionizing radiation. A light-transparent radiation-transparent light-transmitting member extends along the length of the optical waveguide, and is separated from the radiation-sensitive material by a light-opaque sidewall. Outside the light-transmitting member is a light-opaque shield that permits light to enter distal ends of the waveguide and the light-transmitting member, while permitting light to exit the proximal ends thereof, the light-opaque shield being transparent to high energy ionizing radiation.

  • Patent number: 4864641
Abstract: A radio data transmission system wherein signals received via a plurality of diversity antennas are switched at a cycle of subtime slot so that, when the reception level of at least one antenna is sufficiently high to receive the required signal in the relevant time slot, the digital signal in that time slot can be detected properly even if the reception level of any other antenna is not sufficiently high. Accordingly, the code error rate can be minimized by constituting the system in such a manner that the correlation of variations in the reception levels of the diversity antennas becomes extremely low.

  • Patent number: 4864562
Abstract: A substrate multimedia data transmission control system in which transmission frame bits set in a unit of a transmission frame having a repeating cycle of 8 KHz according to the present invention enables it to effect a realtime multiplexed bit allocation in the 8 kbps unit in a variable fashion such that an automatic matching of a transmission frame is achieved at an initiation of a transmission and error check bits of the error correction code are contained in a transmission frame with a satisfactory matching. In addition, the multiframe configuration according to the present invention enables it to handle in an integrated fashion the synchronizations of the voice data frame, the error correction frame, and the video data packet, which as a result minimizes the size of the buffer memories disposed to send and/or to receive motion video and which enables the transmission speed smoothing operation to be accomplished in a simple configuration through an easy control.
