  • Patent number: 4505410
Abstract: A fluid dispensing applicator for crease setting compositions comprises a support 16, a reservoir 12 slidably mounted on the support 16, an applicator nozzle 14 connected to the reservoir 12 to deliver fluid therefrom, and a bearing element 40 movable relative to the support 16 between retracted and advanced positions capable of effecting slidable movement of the reservoir respectively towards and away from the support 16 when so moved. A rotatable member 18 is mounted on the support and is geared to a piston arrangement 32, 34 for urging fluid from the reservoir 12 through the nozzle 14. The nozzle 14, bearing element 40 and the periphery of the rotatable member 18 are aligned on the same side of the applicator. When the applicator is not in use a combination of the pressure within the reservoir 12 and gravity cause the bearing element to move the reservoir into the retracted position thereby relieving the pressure in the reservoir and preventing oozing of crease setting composition from the nozzle 14.

  • Patent number: 4501341
Abstract: A muffler comprises two Helmholtz resonators, one tuned for high frequency and the other for low frequency. There is a resonance of the high frequency resonator volume's compliance and the effective tail pipe gas inertance which produces an undesirable low frequency noise. This is matched by the resonant frequency of the low frequency resonator, and suppressed thereby. A secondary effect to suppress noise at frequencies above said low frequency resonance due to the tailpipe gas inertance increasing linearly with frequency.

  • Patent number: 4497389
Abstract: Drop scaffolding is formed by assemblies of drop tubes 12 and scaffold tubes 15 extending transversely between the drop tubes. Each drop tube has a top coupling secured to an upper part thereof and a bottom coupling secured to a lower part thereof, the two couplings being similar and having cradles with openings directed respectively generally downwardly and generally upwardly. Each coupling comprises an elongate body having a hollow section with a longitudinal axis extending the length of the body, in which section a drop tube is secured. A hook-like cradle 14b, 14c, 14d projects from the body away from the hollow section with an opening x between retaining walls 14c, 14d, each making an acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the section in the quadrant that includes the first end of the body.

  • Patent number: 4493109
Abstract: A flexible bulk container assembled from a single length of material. The container comprises a base (5), first and second opposed side walls (6,7) each joined to the base and third and fourth opposed side walls each composed of two panel sections (8,9 and 10,11 respectively) joined along a vertical center seam, each third and fourth side wall being joined to the first and second side walls and to the base. Each side wall has two spaced parallel reinforcing bands (2,3) extending from the bottom to the top thereof, each band being extended above the top of the side wall into a connection section that connects with the closer reinforcing band of the adjacent side wall to form a lifting loop (12 to 14) over the respective corner of the container. Each connecting section is a continuous extension of the two reinforcing bands that it connects, so avoiding stitching of the lifting loops to the wall fabric.

  • Patent number: 4489104
Abstract: An improved polycrystalline silicon resistor having limited lateral diffusion, integrated circuits containing such resistors, and a method of their preparation is disclosed. The polysilicon resistor is formed by first doping the polysilicon layer with a p or n type impurity and thereafter neutralizing the treated layer with impurities of the other type so as to form a device wherein the concentration gradient between the resistor region of the aforesaid layer and its environment is low. The low concentration gradient reduces lateral diffusion during manufacture, thereby permitting manufacture of integrated circuits of higher circuit density and resistors with smaller dimensions, lower temperature coefficients and higher reliability.

  • Patent number: 4477594
Abstract: A process for the synthesis of mixtures which include saturated aliphatic alcohols is disclosed. In the first step of the process, the first catalyst activation stage, a catalyst, which comprises the oxides of copper, zinc, aluminum, potassium and one or two additional metals selected from the group consisting of chromium, magnesium, cerium, cobalt, thorium and lanthanum, is partially activated. In this step, a reducing gas stream, which includes hydrogen and at least one inert gas, flows past the catalyst at a space velocity of up to 5,000 liters (STP) per hour, per kilogram of catalyst. The partially activated catalyst is then subjected to the second step of the process, second-stage catalyst activation. In this step, the catalyst is contacted by an activation gas stream comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide present in a volume ratio of 0.5:1 and 4:1, respectively, at a temperature of 200.degree. to 450.degree. C. and a pressure of between 35 and 200 atmospheres.
