Abstract: An alloy composed of nickel, boron and phosphorus that does not change substantially in magnetic properties, hardness or resistivity, with substantial changes in temperature.
Abstract: The device comprises an enclosure including two spaced apart electrodes for applying an electric field through a film of liquid crystal material between the electrodes. Disposed on one of the electrodes, between it and the liquid crystal film, is a semiconductor material layer. The semiconductor layer has a rectifying or non-ohmic contact with the liquid crystal film, and has an ohmic or low resistance contact with the electrode. The layer has a resistance, when the rectifying contact is reverse biased, greater than that of the liquid crystal film, and, when the rectifying contact is forward biased, less than that of the film.

Abstract: An electroless copper plating bath comprising a copper salt, a chelating agent, an alkali pH adjusting agent, formaldehyde, and sodium hypophosphite as a plating rate accelerator.
Abstract: An optical waveguide of niobium-doped lithium tantalate single crystal has excellent low loss waveguiding properties with strong electro-optic behavior. The waveguides are made by depositing a film of niobium on a polished lithium tantalate crystal, annealing the crystal so as to diffuse the niobium into the crystal and cooling the crystal.
Abstract: The sensitivity of organic volume phase holographic recording media comprising an .alpha.-diketone in an acrylic polyester polymer can be improved by heating the recording media during or after recording.

Abstract: A holographic recording medium comprising a conductive substrate, a photoconductive layer and an electrically alterable layer of a linear, low molecular weight hydrocarbon polymer has improved fatigue resistance. An acrylic barrier layer can be interposed between the photoconductive and electrically alterable layers.
Abstract: A method of forming hardened magnetic transducer material for use in record playback heads whereby a thin encapsulating firm of oxide is formed in aqueous basic sodium chlorate solution about finely divided particles of a magnetic alloy of iron, silicon and aluminum. The encapsulated particles are then hot pressed to form improved magnetic transducer material.
Abstract: Liquid crystal compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X can be an alkoxy (RO-), an acyloxy ##STR2## or an alkylcarbonato ##STR3## group wherein R is an alkyl group having up to 10 carbon atoms and Y is a nitro or cyano group, having positive dielectric anisotropy and are useful in electro-optic devices which comprise a thin liquid crystal layer between two closely spaced parallel electrodes.

Abstract: Organic volume phase holographic recording medium comprising an .alpha.-diketone in an acrylic polyester polymer is desensitized by exposing the medium to desensitizing light after recording is complete. This inactivates the .alpha.-diketone and prevents damage to the medium during readout.

Abstract: An ablative recording medium comprises a substrate coated with a light reflecting coating which in turn is coated with a light absorptive layer of 4-phenylazo-1-naphthylamine formed by evaporation of Sudan Black B dyestuff. During recording, portions of the organic coating are ablated, or vaporized, by a modulated focussed light beam, thereby exposing portions of the reflective layer and recording video information as a reflective-antireflective pattern.

Abstract: Recording medium comprising a film of a polymer of 1-methylvinyl methyl ketone on a support is suitable for recording information with electron beams. This recording medium has high resolution and good sensitivity.
Abstract: The module comprises a carrier on which a semiconductor chip is mounted, and a plurality of terminals to which various outputs of the chip are electrically connected, the terminals comprising metallized areas on one surface of the carrier. A liquid crystal cell is mounted within a frame including means for securing the frame to the carrier, resilient connector means being clamped between the liquid crystal cell and the carrier for electrically connecting different ones of the carrier terminals to different ones of electrodes of the cell.
Abstract: To improve the adherence of an olefin-SO.sub.2 copolymer film employed as an electron beam resist to a metallic substrate, a thin film of gold is first applied to the substrate. The resulting bond is strong enough to withstand exposure to electron beams, development of the resist film and electroplating of the film witout undercutting, lifting or distortion of the film.
