Abstract: A local area network is disclosed including apparatus and methods for transferring data between a plurality of data processing resources ("agents") coupled to a cable. In the preferred embodiment, a plurality of agents are coupled to a common cable for data transmission and reception. An agent newly coupled to the cable dynamically assigns itself a unique address on the cable to which other agents may send data. Once an agent has been assigned a final address, it may then transmit to, and receive data from, other agents on the cable. An agent desiring to send data to a receiving agent follows a three step handshake, wherein the sending agent transmits an "RTS" signal and within a predetermined time must receive a "CTS"signal from the receiving agent. The sending agent then transmits a data frame within a predetermined time after the CTS signal is received. The failure to detect a return CTS signal within the predetermined time denotes a collision condition.

Abstract: An underwater lighting system for the illumination of decorative water displays and the like is disclosed. Each light in a typical lighting system is disposed below the surface of the water, with the light source having a flat lens to avoid the spreading of the rays due to the index of refraction of the water. Disposed over the light source with the upper surface thereof above the water surface and the lower surface thereof below the water surface is a light guide for allowing the passage of light therethrough substantially perpendicular to the upper and lower surfaces, though at the same time substantially inhibiting light from passing therethrough which is not substantially perpendicular to the surfaces of the light guide, at least with respect to one transverse axis thereof. In this manner, the normal diffusing of underwater lighting encountered in water display caused by ripples in the pool are avoided because of the upper surface of the light guide being above the water level.
Abstract: There is provided an angular and positional deviation adjusting mechanism of a robot hand comprising a holder secured to an arm, an eccentricity accommodating member urged against the holder by a first spring, and an angular deviation accommodating member biased toward the eccentricity accommodating member by a second spring, a slide member being interposed between the first spring and eccentricity accommodating member to permit sliding of said eccentricity accommodating member, the contact sections of the angular deviation accommodating member and eccentricity accommodating member being formed such as to permit swinging of the angular deviation accommodating member, the biasing force of the first spring belt set to be lower than the biasing force of the second spring.
Abstract: A method for centering a semiconductor wafer on a vacuum chuck having a centered shaft. A shaft centering tool which is contained in pre-existing openings in a housing surrounding the shaft is used to define the desired location of the shaft. A second device having the same circumference as the wafer, is employed on the chuck in order that teflon guides can be set into position around the chuck. Once the guides are set, wafers introduced into the guides will be centered on the chuck.
Abstract: Space multiplexed time integrating acousto-optic correlators can achieve multiple signal correlations with an infinite range delay search. In some embodiments, two stage synchronization may be achieved an N channel demodulation may be achieved with automatic synchronization realignment.
Abstract: A sense amplifier circuit for sensing the signals on input-output lines. Gate coupled and a.c. grounded pairs of transistors are used as sense amplifiers. Current mirror pairs of transistors are used as active loads. The gate coupled transistors provide d.c. level shifting without the need for additional circuitry, and the active current mirrors provide differential to single ended conversion of the I/O input-output signal which is then passed through one or more gain stages to drive an output buffer.
Abstract: An electronic musical instrument with a keyboard has a musical instrument housing with the keyboard and an operation panel arranged adjacent to the keyboard, and a cover for covering the keyboard and the operation panel. Guide projections are formed at two sides of the keyboard and the operation panel of the musical instrument housing. The cover has first and second cover bodies, a first coupling device for coupling the first and second cover bodies in a foldable manner, and a second coupling device for pivotally coupling a rear end portion of the first cover body with the musical instrument housing. The front end portion of the second cover body is guided and slid along the guide projections when the cover is opened or closed. When the cover is open, the outer surface of the second cover body stands facing forward and serves as a music rack.
Abstract: A water faucet inlet line connector for providing a quick and reliable attachment of an inlet water line to the shank of a water faucet is disclosed. The connector is comprised of an assembly of two body members entrapping a conical spring washer therebetween. The upper body member has a tapered outer surface for cooperating with the conical inner surface of the connection end of the faucet shank, and preferably includes on its inner cylindrical diameter a ring-like inward protrusion to provide a ring-like region of increased pressure against the inlet tube when the connector and tube are finally locked in position. The lower body member also has a cylindrical inner surface, and cooperates with the upper body member to retain the conical spring therebetween, to align the water line and to provide a stress relief to help isolate inlet line motion from the region of the conical spring and the upper body member.
Abstract: A method of adjusting a relative positional relationship between two objects uses a diffraction grating. A first diffraction grating is arranged on a first object located to oppose a second object, a reflecting surface is arranged at a position of the second object which corresponds to the first diffraction grating, and the method includes the step of irradiating the first diffraction grating with a radiation beam of coherent light or quasi-monochromatic light and measuring/setting the gap between the first and second objects in accordance with a change in intensity of one of the diffracted light components from the first diffraction grating.

Abstract: A tuning apparatus for a stringed musical instrument includes a bridge base, a plurality of bridges, a plurality of anchor members of the same number as that of the bridges, and tuning bolts of the same number as that of the bridges or anchor members. The bridge base is fixed on a body. Each bridge is mounted on an upper surface of a front end portion of the bridge base and is movable along vertical and back-and-forth directions with respect to the body. Each bridge supports one end portion of a string at a top surface thereof. Each anchor member is mounted on an upper surface of a rear end portion of the bridge base and is movable along the back-and-forth direction. Each anchor member locks a bead coupled to one end of the string. Each tuning bolt is rotated to move the corresponding anchor member along the back-and-forth direction.
Abstract: An integrated radio location and communication system comprising a plurality of radio locator-transmitter devices which may be fixed to vehicles and/or carried by persons and which are capable of transmitting the position and identity of said devices to two or more centrally located fixed receiver sites. Each of said locator-transmitters is continuously phase-locked to the RF carrier of a nearby commercial broadcast station, which station is modified slightly to provide periodic transmission of a "range-tone" which is on the order of a few kilohertz in frequency and is phase-locked to the RF carrier. An identical phase-locked range-tone is likewise generated within each locator-transmitter. The two centrally located fixed receivers are also phase-locked to the broadcast station RF carrier and likewise generate a range-tone.
