  • Patent number: 6345273
Abstract: A system for facilitating the searching of data from an electronic data source. The invention teaches a method for presenting a large number of search terms rapidly and efficiently to a user. Users may scan a large number of search terms, move quickly from one search category to another, select a search term with minimal mechanical input and generate a series of “hits” that meet their search goals. The need to guide the computer with mechanical actions from a keyboard, mouse or other device is minimized. Graphics that distract the user from any task other than selecting hits are eliminated. Users are able to scan quickly and find electronic information with minimum effort.

  • Patent number: 6338559
Abstract: A method for improving the visual performance of a person involves correcting higher-order monochromatic aberrations in combination with the correction of chromatic aberration. Such correction results in a visual benefit greater than that realized by correcting only the higher-order monochromatic aberrations or the chromatic aberration alone. The higher-order monochromatic aberrations are corrected by introducing appropriate phase profiles to compensate for the wavefront aberrations of the eye. This compensation can be provided by contact lenses, IOLs, inlays and onlays having appropriate surface shapes or by corneal shaping achieved through refractive surgery or other techniques. Chromatic aberration can be corrected by spectral filtering or artificial apodization. An apodization filter is described that provides a non-uniform amplitude transmission across the pupil of the eye.

  • Patent number: 6338935
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multi-layer optical information carrier with fluorescence reading/recording is presented. A structure is fabricated, being formed of a substrate carrying a fluorescent film on one or both surfaces thereof, wherein the substrate is transparent with respect to incident radiation used for the fluorescence reading/recording. A patterned structure is applied to the fluorescent film under predetermined process conditions, such as to produce a fluorescent patterned structure with a surface relief in the form of an array of discrete fluorescent regions. The same procedure is repeated a required number of times, so as to obtain at the end of the process a multi-layer optical information carrier.

  • Patent number: 6332466
Abstract: An ovarian capsule includes a capsule body enclosing an interior for receiving an ovary and defining a selectively openable, selectively closeable access. The access, when open, forms a gap, space or opening in the ovarian capsule through which an ovary is introduced in the interior. When the access is closed, withdrawal of the ovary from the interior is prevented whereby the ovary is encapsulated by the ovarian capsule to prevent fertilization of ova released by the encapsulated ovary. A method of encapsulating an ovary in the body of a patient includes the steps of introducing an ovarian capsule in the abdominal cavity of the patient, opening the ovarian capsule to provide access to the interior thereof, positioning an ovary of the patient within the interior of the capsule and closing the ovarian capsule to encapsulate the ovary and prevent withdrawal of the ovary from the ovarian capsule.

  • Patent number: RE37600
Abstract: Methods and systems for optimal access of data are disclosed. A system for optimally updating data is described wherein a central database transmits a location table to a remote terminal having an access time variant (ATV) storage medium wherein a first set of data items is stored. The data on the ATV medium can be displayed visually upon a user's accessing a particular piece of data from the ATV medium. The user's data access habits are indexed on a location table by the central database where the location table is optimized and updated according to the number of accesses the user makes to particular data items. A second set of data is then transmitted to the remote terminal along with the updated location table and stored on the ATV database in optimized form, thereby reducing the access time to the second set of data on all the remote terminals since each particular user's individual habits govern the optimization process.
