  • Patent number: 4458456
Abstract: An apparatus for protecting structures from flood waters having a channel surrounding the structure to be protected, the channel having at least in part a bottom and side walls with reinforcement means therewithin or attaching a collapsible water-impermeable sheeting which, when not in use would be stored within the channel, and when in use would be raised to an erected position around the entirety of the structure. The sheeting would be sealably anchored within the channel on its lower edge by concrete, and therefore would prevent water from coming into contact with the structure. The apparatus would also have the means for allowing air to communicate between the exterior and the interior structure and a means for covering the channel to protect the sheeting while the sheeting is stored within the channel.

  • Patent number: 4455869
Abstract: A method for determining the erosion of a borehole or cavity by providing a source of liquid inert gas, preferably nitrogen, placing the inert gas in a storage tank, and suspending the storage tank so that one may determine the actual weight of the nitrogen as it is withdrawn from the tank in liquid state. There is further provided hydraulic means for lifting or lowering the storage tanks suspended from a weight cell as a tank is placed into use or non-use. Further, the liquid nitrogen is pumped from the storage tank with the use of a reciprocating pump, and converted into gaseous nitrogen (in the state of 100.degree. F.,) and is injected into a borehole or the like. The nitrogen gas is then allowed to flow under a certain pressure down the borehole, and due to the properties of nitrogen gas, the nitrogen interfaces at a horizontal plane as it moves down the borehole.

  • Patent number: 4451037
Abstract: A three wheeled mobile pushing exerciser with an adjustable braking system and a chart recording mechanism, said exerciser intended for the development and analysis of an athlete's pushing power in a program of physical exercise related to dynamic sports such as football. Handle bars are slidably mounted onto the wheel assembly of the exerciser and provided with a means for measuring the pushing force applied to the handle bars when the exerciser is pushed forward. An adjustable braking system is used in conjunction with the rear wheel assembly to provide a method for varying the resistance of the exerciser to pushing movement applied to the exerciser. A drive screw, stylus, and chart are fixedly attached to the exerciser to provide for measurement of the distance travelled by the pushing exerciser. A stopwatch is fixedly mounted on the exerciser and is activated and deactivated by the forward and rearward sliding of the handle bars so that the time that the exerciser is in motion may also be recorded.

  • Patent number: 4432209
Abstract: A secondary cooling system for cooling the packing case of a gas compressor which is engine driven, whereby the engine and gas compressor would continue to be cooled by the primary cooling system, and the packing case would be cooled by a secondary cooling system which would provide for a system for circulating coolant through the packing case of a gas compressor in order to provide transfer of heat from the packing case into the coolant for maintaining the final phase at the desired temperature and recirculating the coolant back into the secondary cooling system into a chiller means providing temperature of the coolant to the desired degree for cooling the packing case, which is reduceably less in the engine itself. There is further provided a means for monitoring the temperatures, pressures, flow, etc. within the closed secondary cooling system, and a master control board for monitoring the various devices and receiving and reading out the information to a controller.

  • Patent number: 4420942
Abstract: A flameless nitrogen liquid to gas converter for providing high pressure nitrogen gas to treat oil and gas wells. A diesel engine prime mover drives hydraulic pumps and motors to pressurize nitrogen and actuate a closed-loop water system and a series of heat exchangers. The closed-loop water system provides heat for converting the liquid nitrogen to gaseous nitrogen which is obtained from the engine jacket water, the engine exhaust and the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic pumps and motors. Additional heat can be obtained from the hydraulic oil system by increasing the hydraulic system pressure with an hydraulic pressure control valve. At least one of the hydraulic pumps and its driven hydraulic motor is in an hydraulic circuit which includes variable means for increasing the pressure in the hydraulic circuit, hydraulic oil-water heat exchanger and an hydraulic oil reservoir. Hydraulic fluid from the other pumps and motors is transmitted through the hydraulic oil-water heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4416479
Abstract: An apparatus for engaging onto a shouldered container, the apparatus having a pair of triangulated portions wherein the base of each triangulated portion is an inwardly disposed lip for engagement beneath the shoulder of a shouldered carrier, and the top portions of each triangulated portion making contact with the container shoulder itself. There is further provided a downward disposed member which would engage the inside surface of the shoulder portion so that the shouldered portion is firmly held between each triangulated portion and each downward disposed member. Each triangulated portion would be integrally attached to a handle carrier which overall would define substantially a U-shaped handle, wherein the container could then be lifted through grasping of the U-shaped handle across the horizontally disposed portion of the U.

  • Patent number: 4409184
Abstract: A hand held apparatus having a generally J-shape for removing wrinkles and bubbles in a thin paraffin ribbon having a pair of normally flexible handles and a pair of elongated strut members with the handles, disposed at an angle in relation to the handles and movable with respect to one another, responsive to a flexing of handles. The apparatus also includes a pair of spreader portions disposed at the opposite end of the strut members in relation to the handles, and a pair of spreader pad portions attached to the top end portions of the strut members so that flexing of the handles brings the spreader portions in close relation to one another, and unflexing of the handles brings the spreader portions apart, thus spreading the thin paraffin layer as the spreader portions are separated.
