Abstract: A low cost benchtop molecular beacons (oligonucleotide probes) reader utilizes an array of light emitting diodes to excite the fluorescence of the reaction of the combining of the molecular beacons with actual DNA strands. If the Molecular beacons match with the DNA the reaction will fluoresce a known wavelengths. If there is no match, the reaction will not fluoresce. The molecular beacons reader uses an array of light emitting diodes at given wavelengths. The unit also incorporates the proper filters depending on the wavelength required. The unit has interchangeable cartridges with the filters and light emitting diodes that can be easily changed. The system is used after the PCR process (polymerase chain reaction) and the samples are viewed in PCR strips or PCR plates directly out of a thermocycler. This unit serves as a low cost go-no-go test with easy to use equipment.
Abstract: A novelty device has a compacted spring loop in a container. During an effort of a person to remove the loop from the container, the loop under stored spring energy expands toward its extended configuration to assist in opening the container or to fly out from the container to the surprise of the person.
Abstract: A foldable intraocular lens is stored in its normal unfolded configuration within a lens storage chamber in a lens insertion instrument. The instrument includes a ram which is movable inwardly through the chamber to move the lens into and fold the lens to a compact folded configuration within a bore extending through a tubular portion of the instrument terminating in a slender tip for insertion into a patient's eye through a corneal incision in the eye and through which the folded lens is ejected into the eye by a plunger movable through the bore. An ophthalmic lens insertion kit and lens insertion package including the lens insertion instrument is disclosed.
Abstract: An insertion instrument provides improved features for insertion of a lens into the eye through a small incision. A tubular member has a lumen and a split nozzle end portion for spreading after insertion. Ridges on the lumen wall prevent rotation of the lens, and stabilizer components extend from a plunger end portion to maintain the lens compressed and to prevent lens rotation in moving through the lumen.
Abstract: A buckle apparatus for rapid disengagement of male and female members has deformable portions of a male pull member extending into the female member and retained in openings of the female member. An elongate pull element extends from the deformable portion or portions for pulling thereon to deform the deformable portions to disengage the male and female members.
Abstract: A flexible liquid tight marker light that comprises a light source encapsulated by injection molding a light transmitting elastomeric polymer to form a protective casing which further includes an imbedded wiring harness electrically connected to said light source and imbedded structural members that protect the light source from excessive flexing and impacts. The wiring harness and structural members provide heat sink means for the light source. The casing is comprised of variable durometer tinted polyurethane elastomers with light diffusing pigments added. Diverging optics are molded into the casing outer surface.
Abstract: Attachment ears for use with a predetermined assembly of Johansson blocks, with the ears disposed at opposite ends of the assembly, for measurement of an inclination between spaced-apart surfaces of a workpiece. An indicator gage has a stationary stylus to contact a surface of one ear, and an indicator stylus to contact the inclined surface of the other ear and moveable thereon to define an arc with the stationary stylus as a fulcrum to establish an apex reading of the indicator. The gage is transferred to the workpiece with the stationary stylus and the indicator stylus contacting the two spaced-apart surfaces, and the indicator gage is moved about to provide a gage reading to determine a thickness of material to be removed from the workpiece.
Abstract: An air filter assembly typically for use with truck-trailer cobinations, has separable body and bottom sections, and an elongted threaded member rotatable for threaded securement between the body and bottom sections and for disengagement of the bottom section from the body section for the removal and replacement of a element via the lower portion of the body section.
Abstract: A fitting for receiving a pipe end portion, typically in an irrigation system, has an integrally formed half clamp cooperating with a separate half clamp to secure the fitting and pipe against separation, the integral half clamp providing a ledge protrusion which positions a pipe disposed thereon for ready insertion into the fitting.
Abstract: A specimen holder for examination of specimens has first and second members for sealing engagement to define a specimen chamber of predetermined thickness and evenly spread. A chamber is defined between the first and second members for excess liquid expressed upon the sealing engagement of said members.
