  • Patent number: 5897104
Abstract: A hardtop storage apparatus for storing a removable automobile hardtop has an overhead hoist including a depending lifting member attached to a sling including sling members which extend around and under opposite extremities of the hardtop and across the underside of the hardtop and are releasably joined at the underside of the hardtop in such a way that the sling members support the hardtop with a cradling action and without any direct attachment of the sling members to the hardtop when the hoist is operated to lift the sling and hardtop to an elevated storage position. Certain of the sling members are spaced by a stabilizing member to maintain the cradled hardtop in a balanced position. One disclosed embodiment of the hardtop storage apparatus has a fabric cover which encloses the stored hardtop and mounts a sleeve containing the stabilizing bar of the hardtop sling.

  • Patent number: 5884375
Abstract: A fastener for securing an object is formed of a resilient material and includes an opening therethrough. At least two lines, such as a shoestring, cord, rope, twine, string, or similar article, extending from the object are disposed through the opening in substantially the same direction. By pulling on respective ends of the line in opposite directions, the fastener is distorted for providing a gripping action between the fastener and the lines. In one embodiment, the fastener is an annular member having the lines wrapped at least once around a wall of the fastener. As the ends of the line are pulled, the annular member twists and rolls into a shape having at least one loop, such as a figure eight type shape. In another embodiment, the fastener is a tubular member. As the ends of the line are pulled, one open end of the tubular member rolls toward an opposite open end of the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 5855086
Abstract: A fishing rod belt has a waist bar, belt strap, latch, center bar, a pair of wings, and a plurality of gimbals for engaging a fishing rod. The waist bar and belt strap extend about the waist of a person and are secured with the latch. The center bar has an end attached to the waist bar and is attached to the wings. The gimbals are attached to the center bar in spaced relation and enable the securing of the fishing rod in different positions. The wings are contoured and adapted to flex to provide a comfortable barrier between the fishing rod belt and legs of the person. The center bar may define a channel with first and second edge walls with the gimbals extending between the walls in spaced-apart relation. The latch may be a seat belt type of buckle or a slot and pin mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5837156
Abstract: The two sides of a multiple cavity mold having electroformed mold cavities for molding intraocular lenses with integral haptics are made by a preferred electroforming procedure involving the use of either a single primary master having a single cavity corresponding to the portion of the lens at either side of its median plane transverse to its optic axis if the lens to be molded is symetrical about both this transverse median plane and its longitudinal median plane containing the optic axis, or a pair of primary masters having single cavities, respectively, corresponding to the portions of each lens at opposite sides of its transverse median plane if the lens is unsymmetrical about either plane.

  • Patent number: 5833765
Abstract: Carbon deposits and related residue are removed from he internal surfaces of components of an internal combustion engine, particularly the fuel ports of a carbureted engine and the injection nozzles of a fuel injection engine, by circulating an engine conditioning fuel, through the engine utilizing a conditioning fuel pump, preferably driven by a fluid driven motor, for pumping conditioning fuel to the engine. The conditioning apparatus can detect leakage of the fuel pressure regulator of a fuel injected engine and can operate in both a one-line mode in which conditioning fuel flows one way from the apparatus to the engine and a two-line mode wherein the conditioning fuel is recirculated through the engine and conditioning apparatus. A preferred embodiment provides diagnostic features for checking the conditioning apparatus and certain engine components.

  • Patent number: 5834908
Abstract: Operation of a vapor lamp light source for instrumentation utilizes a lamp manager controller for instant-on and precise temperature control to enhance and control output at specified wavelengths by monitoring and discriminating the spectral output of the lamp, and adjusting lamp current and temperature to maintain specific wavelength and light flux. Specific wavelengths can be selected and the wavelength automatically monitored for output level by control of a cold spot by an electrothermal device and a monitor. Lamp temperature, current and flux level at a selected wavelength are controlled.
