Abstract: A milling machine with a rotating drivable machine tool spindle perpendicular to a work piece stage slanting downward and away from the front side of the machine bed displaceable along the Z-axis that may be displaced via a first carriage along the Y-axis, and via a second carriage along the X-axis on guides mounted to the machine bed. A chip collection chamber is provided behind the work stage surface when in the operating position. The guides for the second carriage are provided on opposing struts of a portal frame parallel to the work tensioning surface, that is connected on its front side by means of lateral front support areas and on its rear side directly with the machine bed.

Abstract: A power control system and method controls power supplied from a power source to a resistive load, such as a LED illumination array, to prevent the load from exceeding a high temperature limit. The power control system and method generates a pulse train that represents heating in the load and uses digital logic to model the load temperature and calculate a temperature out value. When the temperature out value increases to reach a high temperature limit value, the power source is disconnected from the load. When the temperature out value decreases to reach a base temperature value, the power source is re-connected to the load.

Abstract: A vice holdable mounting bracket for a bicycle stand is described, the bracket being adapted so as to be able to be held in a vise when in use, and removed when not. The bracket holds the bicycle stand away from the work surface on which the vice is mounted, providing clearance to work easily on a bicycle held by the stand. Other tools besides bicycle stands may be mounted on the bracket. The bracket may have a removable rotatable and vertically adjustable mounting assembly, which may be positioned through use of a clevis or other similar fastener for easy adjustment and removal.

Abstract: A system and method for non-intrusively displaying telephone call information to a user is used with an existing telecommunications system. The system and method obtains telephone call information, such as automatic number identification (ANI) information, when a telephone call is placed to the telecommunications system. The system and method non-intrusively displays the telephone call information to a user or agent in the telecommunications system, for example, by displaying the ANI information in a title bar of an active window on the agent's workstation. In one example, the system and method uses scripts, such as a bind function script to load an external module, such as a dynamic link library (DLL), and bind a display function from the external module for use in displaying the telephone call information. A display information script obtains the telephone call (ANI) information and displays that information using the display function bound from the external module.

Abstract: A connector for connecting a horizontal member with at least one vertical member in an interlocking manner includes plastic body in the shape of a cylinder, having one flat side which extends parallel to a longitudinal axis of the cylinder. A pin projects outwardly near a top end in of the plastic body, in a radial manner. A through hole is provided in the plastic body through which a securing screw can be threaded into at least one vertical member against which the connector is disposed.

Abstract: A system and method of distributing outbound telephony service including voice communications over a computer network is provided. The system includes a master call center, including a computer telephony integration (CTI) system and a digital communication server, located at a first location. The system further includes at least one distributed call center, including a distributed CTI system and a digital communications server, located at at least one remote location. The system is configured to connect at least one connected party with whom voice communications are established at a distributed call center over a local telephone line and then route the voice communications to at least one call center agent interfacing the master call center over a computer network, such as the Internet. The method begins by linking a master call center to at least one distributed call center over a computer network. Next, at least one call list group is distributed to the distributed call center.

Abstract: This invention provides a unique utility knife, which has at least two extendable and retractable parallel blades. The blades are easily operated with one hand by a mechanism on a non-force-bearing surface of the knife. The blade handle of this utility knife may be bent to enhance the ergonomic ease of use of the knife. As a result, the utility knife is efficient, as well as safe, convenient and economical.

Abstract: A hearing aid fitting for a behind-the-ear hearing aid possesses two sound inlet apertures on different sides of the fitting. One sound inlet aperture faces toward the head and the other faces in the opposite direction. Both sound inlet apertures are connected to a channel leading to the behind-the-ear hearing aid. An insertable sealing stopper that is shaped to fit the aperture is provided for each sound inlet aperture. One of these sealing stoppers seals the sound inlet aperture facing the head. The two sealing stoppers may be of different color or exterior side texture for differentiation one from the other.

Abstract: An intelligent information router system comprising a telephony controller coupled to a private branch exchange through a link interface. The telephony controller may communicate with a handle manager and a script interpreter engine. The telephony controller may receive information from the link interface regarding telephone calls being placed to the private branch exchange. The telephony controller may initiate actions with the script interpreter engine that access information stored in a database through a database controller. In response to action of the script interpreter engine, the telephony controller may instruct the private branch exchange to route the call to an appropriate location within a company depending on the information received by the private branch exchange through automatic transmission of data or interaction with the calling party.

Abstract: A roofing membrane material is disclosed. The material is characterized in that it includes a woven or non-woven fibrous mat encapsulated within a non-adhesive asphalt coating, the resulting encapsulated mat having an adhesive asphalt layer applied to one surface thereof. An acrylic coating is applied to the surface of the encapsulated mat that is not in contact with the adhesive asphalt layer. The resulting membrane, when applied to a roofing deck, provides a high traction surface that will not adhere to shingles and provides an effective waterproofing seal on the roofing deck.

Abstract: The device (10) is used for temporarily repairing a ruptured or otherwise damaged rubber-band track (50) of a vehicle and allow the vehicle to proceed on its own to the nearest maintenance site or to a convenient location where replacement or permanent repair of the track (50) can be undertaken. A method for temporarily repairing a damaged rubber-band track (50) is also disclosed. The device (10) comprises a plurality of spaced-apart and parallel support members (12), each being transversely disposed on the exterior side (50a) of the track (50). A plurality of linking members (18) is extending between corresponding ends of two adjacent support members (12) and are pivotally connected to each adjacent linking member (18). A plurality of track retention members (30) maintain the device (10) on the track (50). Damaged portions of the track (50) are also positively secured to the device (10) by fasteners or the like to prevent them from moving.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detecting a target material in a sample, which method comprises the steps of: a) exposing a sample, expected to contain that target material, to at least two viruses which are capable of binding directly or indirectly with that target material so as to form a virally bound target material and to endow the virally bound target material with a distinctive property; and b) cultivating the product from stage a in the presence of an indicator material to which the viruses carried by the virally bound target material attach so as to cause the indicator material to adopt the distinctive property of the virally bound target material; and c) monitoring the presence or otherwise of virally attached indicator material. The invention also provides a kit for use in the method of the invention.

Abstract: A universal recoil pad system allows different recoil pads having different styles, sizes and degrees of softness to be interchangeably attached to a gunstock. The universal recoil pad system includes a recoil pad having a cavity and a rigid frame molded within the pad. A pad attachment member is removably secured to the frame and within the cavity. A gunstock attachment member is attached to the end of the gunstock, for example, using conventional wood screws. The recoil pad is removably attached to the gunstock by slidably engaging the pad attachment member with the gunstock attachment member. A flat spring disposed within the pad attachment member holds the pad attachment member into engagement with the gunstock attachment member. The recoil pad can also include holes for securing the recoil pad to the gunstock using conventional methods.

Abstract: A particulate absorbent, for the absorption of liquids, comprising particles selected from the group consisting of particles of glass-like polysaccharides and of particles of glass-like polysaccharides occluding, In their internal structure, at least one surfactant, said particles: having a size of up to 620 &mgr;m; being at least 70% of a glass-like type structure; and being: 30 to 45% of a size comprised between 620 and 420 &mgr;m; 35 to 55% of a size comprised between 420 and 210 &mgr;m; and 5 to 25% of a size up to 210 &mgr;m. These particulate absorbent is non-hygroscopic, hypoallergenic and biodegradable and useful particularly in biodegradable diapers.

Abstract: A system and method of providing system integrity and audit capabilities to a positive identification system is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the system uses biometric access authority information units and a biometric comparison system at a remote database site to permit authorized system users to access the positive identification system. The system also utilizes secondary access authority information units to permit authorized system users to access the system in the event that one or more authorized system users cannot be authenticated using the biometric comparison system.

Abstract: A telecommunications system (10) is provided that provides for telephone functions to be accessed through client computer system (14). A server computer system (16) provides telephony services, database services and access to E-mail, voice mail, video conferencing and facsimile systems. A graphical user interface 116 is presented to a user to allow the user to perform a large number of functions and to access databases of information associated with calling and called parties.

Abstract: The apparatus (10) is used for determining the consistency index (k) and the power law index (n) of a Newtonian fluid or non-Newtonian power law fluid. A method is also disclosed. Accordingly, the fluid flows in a laminar manner through a first (12) and a second static mixer (14) successively connected together by means of an intermediary pipe (18). A first pressure differential (&Dgr;P1) corresponding to a pressure drop of the fluid through the first static mixer (12) is measured. Similarly, a second pressure differential (&Dgr;P2) corresponding to a pressure drop of the fluid through the second static mixer (14) is measured. Finally, the consistency index (k) and the power law index (n) are calculated using the Metzner and Otto concept generalized to static mixers. The apparent viscosity may also be calculated. This invention may be mounted directly on a main supply pipe (16) and allows the rheological properties of the fluid to be known in real time.

Abstract: A system and method for mapping a plurality of data base fields from an arbitrary ODBC-compliant data base to a plurality of attributes in a knowledge base having a known data attribute format is provided. The system includes a data base selection interface displayed on a display associated with a system user. The data base selection interface is configured to allow a system user to select the data base to map to the knowledge base having a known data attribute format. The system also includes a data attribute mapping interface, which is also displayed on the system user display. The data attribute mapping interface is configured to display a plurality of data attributes included in the knowledge base and to allow the system user to select at least one data attribute to map to at least one data field in the arbitrary data base to be converted. Also included is an edit field mapping interface, which is also displayed on the system user display.
