Patent number: 8352051Abstract: An output module for an Industrial Process Control System that drives a load in a failsafe manner. The output module drives a load in response to a driving signal and includes a controller that generates a command signal and a drive enable signal in response to said driving signal. A keep alive circuit generates an active keep alive signal unless the drive enable signal is inactive. The output module includes a driver circuit that generates a drive signal in accordance with the command signal when the keep alive signal is active such that the load can be driven with a channel failsafe switch in response to the drive signal. The output module can be integrated into any of a number of industrial process control systems to enhance the operability of such systems.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2009Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Rockwell Automation LimitedInventor: Thomas Bruce Meagher

Patent number: 8334740Abstract: A contactor assembly includes a stationary contact, an arc contact, an arc arrestor, and a magnetic intensifier. The magnetic intensifier is constructed to be secured in generally close proximity to the stationary contact. During communication of power through the contactor assembly, the magnetic intensifier accentuates a magnetic field associated with the stationary contact and increases the magnitude of a magnetic force directed to the arc arrestor. A pair of arc guides extend along the magnetic intensifier and, cooperatively with the magnetic force, ensure efficient, repeatable, and expedient transfer of a circuit termination arc to the arc arrestor. Such a construction increases the operable range and lifecycle of the contactor by reducing the damage associated with propagation of the circuit termination arc.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2011Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Ramsey Annis, Robert Alfred Duchrow, Theodore John Houck, III, James Peter Miller

Patent number: 8330405Abstract: The present invention provides an improved current regulator for PWM based drives for electric motors. The invention provides compensation for the rotor position signal for delays introduced due to the PWM algorithm and for digital sampling present in such a drive. Current regulator commonly operate in a two-phase reference frame, requiring forward and reverse coordinate transformations between the physical current values and the two-phase reference frame variables. The present invention provides an improved compensation in the forward transformation by determining the phase lag between the commanded voltage reference and the output voltage reference and by further compensating the forward transformation for errors introduced due to sampling the current either at different sampling instances than the rotor position or at multiple sampling instances during a carrier period.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Semyon Royak, Mark M. Patent number: 8321512Abstract: A method and software product for detecting unsolicited emails, e.g. spam, involves altering the case of at least some symbols comprising an email user's email address according to a predetermined criteria prior to transmitting an email message. The altered case sequence of the email user's address is stored in a database. Subsequently, as email's are received in the email user's mailbox their intended recipient addresses are processed to determine if they include symbols whose case sequence, i.e. uppercase and lowercase, matches one of the sequences that was previously stored. If no match is found then the incoming email is treated as potentially constituting spam and is handled as such. Embodiments of the invention take advantage of a property of most Internet post office email servers being that they are generally case insensitive in respect of the symbols that make up an email address.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2004Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Geobytes, Inc.Inventor: Adrian McElligott
