  • Patent number: 5200629
Abstract: Radiations of two different frequencies are transmitted through a fluid comprising a mixture of materials, wherein a radiation is absorbed in the range of the radiation absorption by one of the materials, and another radiation is not absorbed, and wherein the radiations operate with pulses of identical pulse repetition frequency and identical pulse intervals. The detected electrical signal from the monitored radiations passed through the fluid, the center frequency of which corresponds to the reciprocal value of the pulse interval, is filtered out with the aid of a filter. The concentration of the absorbing material in the fluid is measured from the amplitude changes of the filtered-out signal. By the use of filters, the bandpass ranges of which are respectively adapted to the occurring pulse repetition frequencies, and based on the interpretation of the measuring signal as a modulated signal, a high safety against noise signals is attained.

  • Patent number: 5193619
Abstract: Apparatus for the venting and isolation of an oil well test tool drill string comprises reference pressure gas release apparatus having two spaced pistons (7, 11) located at opposite ends of the reference gas chamber (10) and blocking both a gas vent (17) to annulus and a hydraulic liquid passageway (22) extending further up the test string, the pistons being held together by a shear pin (13) until the application of a predetermined higher pressure across those pistons causes the pin to shear, allowing sequential movement of the two pistons toward each other, firstly opening the gas vent to annulus, and secondly opening the passageway (22) to a chamber (24) of hydraulic liquid. The hydraulic liquid pressure within this passageway then causes actuation of ball valve apparatus for isolating the upper section of tubing, which in turn enables transfer of hydraulic pressure to apparatus for venting the contents of the tubing to annulus.

  • Patent number: 5191854
Abstract: The boat has a flap (1) forming a part of its V- or spoon-shaped bow and being unfoldable therefrom. This flap is supported by means of projections (9a,9b) arranged on both of its sides on swivel joints (13a,13b) set back into the inside of the boat with respect to the inner wall of the bow. Upon pivoting the flap (1) out of the bow opening (15), the flap is swung away from the bow wall portion with the uncovering of an interspace (2) between the flap and the bow wall portion which latter lies underneath the bow opening (15). The flap outside wall can be urged underneath the surface of the water and can be fixed in its position. The flap (1) is designed as a buoyant member, and when serving as a working or recreational platform, etc., can be folded back into the bow of the boat in such a way that the hydro- and aerodynamic properties as well as the esthetic appearance of the bow are not impaired.

  • Patent number: 5183179
Abstract: A child drowning protection guard for an open head, plastic industrial container to prevent a toddling child from toppling head first into the container containing a liquid. The guard is provided by a tapered tube integral with the bottom wall of the container and extending upwardly from the bottom wall, through the surface of the liquid, a distance at least one-half the height of the container, and having an effective diameter at the top so that the radial space between the tube and the inner side wall of the container is dimensioned to be less than the diameter of the head of a typical toddling child. The tube is hollow so that a plurality of empty containers can be stacked in nested relationship, and the side wall of the tube can be corrugated or fluted to conserve on the amount of volume taken from the container by the placement of the tube therein.

  • Patent number: 5181225
Abstract: In a receiver (3 ) for a DSSS signal (DSSS=direct sequence spread spectrum), an inverse filter (12) is utilized in place of a matched filter for detecting the symbols (B.sub.m). The inverse filter (12) is distinguished in that it responds to the predetermined pulse sequence as such with a pure Kronecker delta sequence. Preferably, the DSSS signal is generated with a pulse sequence realizing a maximum process gain.

  • Patent number: 5170412
Abstract: In a multiple access method for the simultaneous exchange of several data streams ({B.sub.1,m }, {B.sub.2,m }, {B.sub.3,m }) among several participants of a transmission system, various data streams ({B.sub.1,m }, {B.sub.2,m }, {B.sub.3,m }) with the same spread sequence (s[.]) are expanded to a corresponding DSSS signal ({B.sub.1,m s[.]}, {B.sub.2,m s[.]}, {B.sub.3,m s[.]}. During transmission, the various DSSS signals ({B.sub.1,m s[.]}, {B.sub.2,m s[.]}, {B.sub.3,m s[.]}) are heterodyned to a single incoming signal. For detecting the various data streams in a receiver, the incoming signal is filtered in a filter that is inverse with respect to the joint spread sequence (s[.]). In order to permit reliable detection, heterodyning takes place in each case so that the spread sequence intervals pertaining to different data streams are chronologically shifted with respect to one another by a given minimum value (delta.sub.-- T).
