Patent number: 8084751Abstract: An approach to extending the dynamic range of the detector of a mass spectrometer is described. In one embodiment, in the case of high intensity beams, means are provided to deflect the ion beam, after the collector slit (1), on to an attenuator (4), which may be a grid or an array of small holes, through which only a small fraction of the ion beam reaches the ion detector (6). Use of an array of holes ensures that the recorded signal is insensitive to the distribution of ions within the beam. The beam passes directly to a detector if the signal is of low intensity.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2010Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Nu Instruments LimitedInventors: Philip Anthony Freedman, Karla Newman

Patent number: 8066175Abstract: A container for food, such as used for the storage or packaging of tostadas, manufactured as a carton, which is formed with eight sections or sides that are joined by adhesive at an edge to fold the container is disclosed. The container also has edges placed on the top and bottom ends that, when interwoven towards the center of the container, permit the formation of a kind of bow with which the container is kept closed. In order to open the container, it is only necessary to pull outwards on opening projections which are part of the bow. Likewise, and as a consequence of the interweaving of the edges, an internal pulling acts as a muffling, thereby helping the food, e.g., tostadas, to be maintained in a good state, without being broken.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2009Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Grupo Fiesta Charra, S.A. Patent number: 7989730Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining a lateral relative movement between a processing head and a workpiece during processing the workpiece as well as a device to carry it out. In the method a surface of the workpiece (12) is illuminated in the region of the processing head with an optical radiation (2). The optical radiation (3) reflected from the surface of the workpiece (12) in the region of the processing head is repeatedly detected in a locally resolved manner by an optical detector (9), which is firmly fixed mechanically to the processing head, to obtain optical reflection patterns. The repeated detection occurs in temporal intervals in which the temporally successive reflection patterns of overlapping surface regions of the workpiece (12) are obtained. The lateral relative movement is determined by comparing the temporally successive reflection patterns.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2006Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignees: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V., Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule AachenInventor: Boris Regaard

Patent number: 7980254Abstract: A hair fastening and hair volume enhancing device is described which includes a thin flat strip, of bendable, lightweight flexible material having bristles on top and bottom sides thereof. A wire is positioned between sheaths of material forming the thin flat strip. The flat strip has a surface finish of a color and shine similar to a wearer's hair color and shine so that the device is imperceptible when worn by the wearer. A hair fastening and hair volume enhancing method using the device involves placing the hair device in hair, moving and/or bending the hair device in any direction, and attaching the hair to the device by means of the bristles on the surfaces of the hair device such that the hair device holds hair in place while also providing hair enhancement by holding the hair in a suspended position away from the scalp, thereby enhancing hair volume appearance while also holding hair in place.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2007Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: DeirdreJulia, Inc.Inventor: Deirdre Julia Callahan
