  • Patent number: 4937867
Abstract: A method for scrambling speech such as in a mobile land based communication system is disclosed. Essentially, variable length time samples of digitized speech are stored and time inversion scrambled. The scrambled speech is converted back to analog form and transmitted to a receiver which reciprocates the process to reproduce the desired speech signals. Scrambling and descrambling of the speech signal is synchronized to provide corresponding sample time inversions and accurate reproduction of the speech input signal. The level of security afforded by the scrambling method may be varied by varying the length of the sampling period or by mixing forward and reverse time samples under control of an algorithm.

  • Patent number: 4923963
Abstract: The substitution of the L-Pro at the 7-position of the peptide hormone bradykinin or other substituted analogs of bradykinin with an aliphatic, cyclic or aromatic amino acid of the D-configuration converts bradykinin agonists into a bradykinin antagonist. The invention further includes additional modifications at other positions within the novel 7-position modified bradykinin antagonists including C-terminal and N-terminal extensions and replacement of arginine in the one and nine positions which increase enzyme resistance, antagonist potency and/or specificity of the new bradykinin antagonists. The analogs produced are useful in treating conditions and diseases of the mannal and human body in which an excess of bradykinin or related kinins are produced or injected as by bites into the body.

  • Patent number: 4907567
Abstract: A bow stabilizer is provided for mounting to a bow and balancing and dampening the vibrations during shooting. The stabilizer assembly includes a shaft threaded to the bow handle and extending in the forward direction therefrom. A weight member is axially and radially mounted to the shaft by an offsetting bracket which is slidable and rotatable about the shaft to provide variable positioning of the weight about the shaft and to provide proper distancing from the bow handle. In the preferred embodiment the weight is a hollow tubular housing for storing tools, extra arrowheads and the like which are commonly carried into the field. Additional embodiments of the invention provide additional pivotal joints to adjust the shaft horizontally and vertically with respect to the bow and pivotally adjust the weight with respect to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4868891
Abstract: A method and apparatus for filling audio blanks in a message received by a receiver resulting from switching the receiver between a plurality of input channels each having a different message for selecting the channel of highest priority is disclosed. A recording and playback device is connected between the receiver and an output channel for recording a given time segment portion of a first message. The receiver is switched to a second channel for a period of time equal to the given time segment for receiving a second message and for determining which channel has a higher priority. The recorded portion of the first message is delivered to the output channel simultaneously with the switching of the receiver to the second channel to repeat the first message portion at the output channel, thereby to fill in the audio blank resulting from switching the receiver between the input channels.

  • Patent number: 4787988
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the simultaneous filtering of samples contained in a plurality of test tubes includes a test tube block, a vacuum manifold, base manifold and vacuum base. The vacuum manifold is provided with a plurality of recesses complementary with barrels in the block defining chambers to receive the test tubes. The base manifold and vacuum base are assembled as a unit including recesses to receive filter screens and passages leading from the recesses to a vacuum source. The vacuum manifold is positioned onto the block with a filter medium placed over the vacuum manifold and secured in place by attaching the base manifold/vacuum base unit to the block. When vacuum is applied to the vacuum base the entire assembly is inverted whereby the contents of the test tubes are drawn through passages in the vacuum base to the filter medium. Passages in the base provide a wash solution to the barrels which is drawn through the device by the vacuum.
