Abstract: A system and method for continuously measuring mass flow rate of grain in a harvester where an impact plate is disposed to be impacted by grain exiting a power driven conveyor which is a normal part of the harvester. The impact plate is mounted on force measuring apparatus which generates an electrical signal proportional to grain impact force. Computing apparatus in electrical communication with the force measuring apparatus calculates the average value of grain impact force, adjusts this value to compensate for the difference between an actual measured operating speed of the conveyor and a constant reference speed, and calculates grain mass flow rate utilizing a mass flow calibration characteristic which relates grain mass flow rate to average grain impact force, where this calibration characteristic is non-linear and has different values for different grain types and different grain moisture contents.
Abstract: A motion sensing safety interlock which disables one or more equipment elements of a ground-traveling machine upon stopping or slowing of the machine below a preselected ground speed. A speedometer cable interconnects a wheel of the machine and a monitor box in which is mounted for rotation by the cable a ferrous star wheel. Lobes of the star wheel pass between poles of a magnetic reed switch which changes state at a frequency corresponding to the rotational speed of the wheel. Electrical circuitry monitors the reed switch and disengages an electric clutch to stop the equipment elements upon the stopping of ground travel of the machine.

Abstract: A drive system for a baler of large cylindrical bales that permits a plurality of transverse driven shafts to be slidably engaged and disengaged for quick and easy assembly and repair of the baler. The transverse driven shafts extend between a pair of spaced apart sidewalls. A gear box for each of the driven shafts is mounted on one of the sidewalls and includes longitudinal drive surfaces. Mating longitudinal drive surfaces are formed on the driven shafts for slidable engagement with and disengagements from the drive surfaces of the associated gear box. A releasable mounting secures the nondriven ends of the shafts at the opposite sidewall.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for limiting the fuel to an internal combustion engine to reduce emissions of the engine. Means responsive to one or more operating conditions of the engine are provided for adjustably setting the maximum open position of a throttle of the engine so as to reduce and limit the maximum fuel volume flow rate to the engine. The operating conditions include the fuel flow rate called for by an accelerator, the condition of the transmission of a vehicle in which the engine is installed, the slope or incline on which the vehicle is located, the vehicle speed, and the speed and direction of any wind.
Abstract: A light-weight, high-strength beam member for use in concrete form assemblies. A sheet material is roll-formed into a hollow beam having a trapezoidal transverse cross section. In assembly, a plurality of beam members are attached to a supporting metal concrete forming structure in a parallel, spaced-apart relation. Sheeting or decking is attached to the plurality of beam members by hand driven nails which penetrate a top section of the beam members.
Abstract: A unidirectional drum roller for a baler of large cylindrical bales. A plurality of ramped steps extend longitudinally along the periphery of a substantially cylindrical drum. Each ramped step includes a steeply inclined leading edge portion and a gradually inclined following portion. The unidirectional construction provides a drum roller which has aggressive feeding action but allows a counter-rotating forming bale to slip past in the non-driven direction. The ramped steps are formed from a single sheet of material by die stamping so that there are no crevices or interstices on the drum roller to trap crop material and the drum roller is essentially self-cleaning.
Abstract: An apparatus for centering a steerable wheel or wheels of a ground-travelling machine. The centering apparatus includes an electrically controlled hydraulic steering system for steering of a wheel or wheels which is operable in either a manual or automatic mode. A cam is mounted for pivotal movement in response to the steering direction of the wheel or wheels. A pair of switches are mounted adjacent the cam and are alternately actuated by the cam in response to pivotal movement of the wheel or wheels. When the automatic mode is selected, the corresponding one of the switches will act to control the hydraulic system so as to pivot the wheel or wheels to the centered position. Upon reaching the centered position, the cam will release the actuated switch thereby ceasing steering movement of the wheel or wheels.
Abstract: An improved lamp assembly for a motor vehicle and a method for molding same is provided in which a one-piece lamp having one or more colors or reflective means integrated in a single lens panel and frame is molded in a single plastic injection process. In the process, one or more colored or reflective elements are placed between two mold segments, the mold segments are closed, and a plastic is injected into the mold cavity in bonding securement of the colored or reflective elements.
Abstract: A securement device for releasable attachment of a laptop computer or other article to a user's leg includes a table member and a pair of in-folding leg members, one each of which is attached for hinged movement relative to a corresponding side edge portion of the table member. Elastic webbing interconnects the free end portion of each leg member to a central portion on the underside of the table member. The securement device is centered on a user's leg and a pair of coacting straps are used to snugly encircle the user's leg to prevent pivotal movement of the securement device relative thereto and the leg members brace the table member to prevent displacement thereof as a result of ordinary unbalanced imposed forces. Elastic straps are provided whereby an article such as a laptop computer may be releasably attached to the supporting surface of the table member. The securement device allows a user of a laptop computer to stand and walk a few steps without displacing the laptop computer.
Abstract: An automatic hitch assembly for raising, positioning and coupling a tongue portion of a trailing vehicle to a drawbar portion of a pulling vehicle allowing for automatic coupling of the trailing vehicle with respect to the pulling vehicle while the driver remains in the pulling vehicle. A V-shaped guide member on the drawbar portion of the pulling vehicle is pivotal from an uncoupled substantially horizontal orientation, for receiving an elongated probe member on the tongue portion of the trailing vehicle during raising and positioning of the trailer vehicle, to a coupled substantially vertical orientation in which the V-shaped guide member is free from contact from the elongated probe member.
Abstract: A securement device for releasable attachment of a lapboard to a user's leg includes a table member and a pair of in-folding leg members, one each of which is attached for hinged movement relative to a corresponding side edge portion of the table member. Elastic webbing interconnects the free end portion of each leg member to a central portion on the underside of the table member. The securement device is centered on a user's leg with the leg members bracing the table member to prevent displacement thereof as a result of ordinary unbalanced imposed forces. When removed from a user's leg, the securement device folds to a compact storage position flush with the table member.
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling from a remote operator station a drive means of a ground-traveling machine. A handle accessible to an operator seated at the remote operator station is moveable in a substantially T-shaped pattern. Movement of the operator handle in a line of travel defined by the stem section of the T-shaped pattern engages a clutch mechanism which connects the operator handle to a linkage arm for operating a main motion control apparatus of the drive system located at a main operator station of the machine. Upon release of the operator handle, springs bias the return of the operator handle to the home position and disengagement of the clutch mechanism. In the home position, the remote control apparatus does not interfere with operation of the main motion control apparatus from the main operator station. A safety interlock system prevents operation of the drive system of the machine at other than low speeds.
Abstract: A gravity drop hammer apparatus for mounting on the bucket attachment mechanism of a skid loader, in which at least a distal portion of the hammer apparatus is capable of dropping, under forces of gravity, from a raised position toward an impact position upon release by an operator of the skid loader, the hammer apparatus allowing for variable impact at distal locations from the skid loader. The gravity drop hammer apparatus comprises a hammer member, a mounting plate member which is pivotally attached to the hammer member for attaching the hammer member to the bucket attachment mechanism of the skid loader, and a releasable latching assembly for latching the hammer member to the mounting plate member prior to pivotally raising the hammer member to its raised position. Upon release of the releasable latching assembly, the hammer member is allowed to fall, under the forces of gravity, from the raised position to the impact position.
Abstract: An intralumenal graft for the repair of damaged or weakened sections of the vascular system. The graft consists of a semi-rigid, resilient tube made of a material suitable for long-term residence inside a vessel. The tube has a relaxed, smaller diameter and is expandable to a larger diameter which is maintained by a retaining ledge or teeth on the inside of the graft. Repair of a vessel is attained by insertion of the graft in its relaxed condition into the vessel at a site which may be remote from the damaged section. The graft is positioned and expanded to its larger diameter by a balloon catheter. Once expanded, the graft is retained in position by friction with the inner wall of the vessel.
