  • Patent number: 7349564
Abstract: An apparatus, method and software module for selecting phase-correlated images from the output of a scanner such as a cone beam CT scanner operates by collapsing the images derived from the series from two dimensions to one dimension by summing the intensities of pixels along a dimension transverse to the one dimension, producing a further image from a composite of the one-dimensional images obtained from images in the series, analysing the further image for periodic patterns, and selecting from the series images having like phase in that periodic pattern. If desired, a plurality of reconstructions can be derived at different phases. The analysis of the further image for periodic patterns can include comparing the one-dimensional images therein, to identify a movement of features in that dimension. This allows (inter alia) the accurate determination of the breathing cycle in a patient and a concomitant improvement in the quality of CT scans by using phase-correlated images.

  • Patent number: 7347094
Abstract: A coupling apparatus allows anti-phase movements of inertial sensor element frames along parallel axes but substantially prevents in-phase movements of the frames. The coupling apparatus includes a bar coupled between first and second sensor element frames and at least one supporting structure supporting the bar. The at least one structure is coupled to a substrate underlying the frames. The structures allow the bar to rotate at a pivot point when the frames move in anti-phase to one another along substantially parallel axes but substantially prevent in-phase movements of the frames.

  • Patent number: 7343290
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of switching from one original dialog system (1), which communicates with the user using its own dedicated speech recognition and/or speech output unit (6), to a target dialog system (2), which also communicates with the user using its own dedicated speech recognition and/or speech output unit (7), whereby the language of the speech recognition and/or speech output unit (7) of the target dialog system (2) can be set. The original dialog system (1) transfers a language information parameter (P2) to the target dialog system (2), as a result of which the language which the original dialog system (1) used for communication with the user is specified. The target dialog system (2) uses this language information parameter (P2) to set the language of the speech recognition and/or speech output unit (7) for further communication with the user.

  • Patent number: 7337705
Abstract: A press and sip device including a straw and sieve coupled together to permit pressing solid particles to infuse flavor into a freshly brewed beverage consumable from the container in which it was prepared. The straw and sieve unit can be used in containers of various sizes through the use of gasket attachments. The sieve is provided with openings that allow the beverage to receive flavor from the solid particles while maintaining the particles separate from the beverage when the beverage is consumed. The straw is provided with apertures in the side wall of the straw that limit intake of beverage to the liquid above the sieve separated from the solid particles. The device is contemplated as having detachable elements to facilitate cleaning and storage.

  • Patent number: 7339510
Abstract: A system and method for adaptive sigma-delta modulation. The system includes a input stage that produces a difference signal representing the difference between an analog input signal x(n) and a analog feedback signal z(n), the amplitude of the analog input signal x(n) within a first range [?a, +a]. An accumulator stage produces a accumulated signal that is a function of an accumulation of the difference signal, the accumulator stage transforming the accumulation of the difference signal so as to increase average magnitude while ensuring instantaneous magnitude does not exceed a predetermined value. A quantization stage produces a quantized digital signal y0(n) representing the accumulated signal. Based on the quantized digital signal y0(n), a adaptation stage produces a digital output signal z0(n), which is converted to the analog feedback signal z(n) by a digital-to-analog converter stage.

  • Patent number: 7335244
Abstract: An air-purifying device for a front-opening unified pod to purify the air in it is provided. The air in the front-opening unified pod 51 is sucked through one of its breathing holes 58a and directed into an air-purifying device (M) that includes a fan-driving means 1, a dust-filtering means 2, and a chemical-filtering means 3. The moisture, chemical gases, and dust in the air are removed by the air-purifying device (M), and then the purified air is forced into the front-opening unified pod 51 through the other breathing hole 58b. Thus the air in the front-opening unified pod 51 is purified, and its purity is maintained by circulating the air.

  • Patent number: 7326869
Abstract: A tactile feedback switching mechanism having a plurality of switching states. The tactile feedback switching mechanism includes a plunger switch having a plunger. When the plunger is displaced a given distance the switch changes state. A covering lies at least over the plunger switch and includes a border section and a deformation section. The covering may be formed from an elastic material such as an elastomer. When a user depresses the plunger, confirmation of a change in the state of the switch can be tacitly sensed by a change in resistance provided by the covering. The resistance of the covering changes by deformation of the deformation portion of the covering while the plunger is depressed.

  • Patent number: 7327003
Abstract: Rather than increasing the mass of the structure, the structure in a sensor system suspends its substrate from some mechanical ground. Motion of the substrate relative to the mechanical ground thus provides the movement information. To those ends, the sensor system includes a base, a substrate, and a flexible member suspended from at least a portion of the substrate. At least a portion of the flexible member is capable of moving relative to at least a portion of the substrate. In addition, the flexible member is secured to the base, thus causing the substrate to be movable relative to the base. Moreover, the mass of the substrate is greater than the mass of the flexible member. The substrate and flexible member are configured to interact to produce a motion signal identifying movement of the base.

  • Patent number: 7324110
Abstract: A system and method for cleaning a set of motion capture data, wherein the data correspond to a set of point coordinates relating to a model but may include missing or inaccurate values. A subset of the motion capture data is identified that corresponds to valid points matching locations of corresponding points of the model, and a best set of model parameters is computed in such a manner as to minimize a norm of the valid points with respect to the model. A complete set of point coordinates is then predicted based on the best set of model parameters and a subsequent set of cleaned motion capture data. Actual points are inserted where validated, and the process is iterated until a specified criterion is met.

  • Patent number: 7314350
Abstract: A fan controller for controlling the rotation of a rotor (with a fan blade) has a current limiting element to control current flow to a capacitive storage apparatus. More specifically, the fan controller has an input for receiving an input voltage, the noted capacitive storage in electrical communication with both rotor circuitry (that controls rotor rotation) and the input, and the noted current limiting element coupled between the input and the capacitive storage. The rotor circuitry is energizable by the input voltage, while, in a similar manner, the capacitive storage is capable of charging by receiving current from the input. The current limiting element at least in part controls current flow from the input to the capacitive storage.
