  • Patent number: 6928911
Abstract: Method and apparatus for severing tire ply stock (S) wherein the apparatus includes a knife assembly (14) utilizing a blade (50) having a curved leading edge (58) and a straight trailing edge (62) which meet at a leading point (66). The ply stock (S) is supported by a slotted anvil (26) in the area immediately adjacent a cut line. In operation, the knife assembly (14) is lowered and the leading point (66) pierces the ply stock (S) between adjacent cords. During the downward stroke, the trailing edge (62) back-cuts the ply stock (S) from the insertion point (98) to a first lateral edge (18). The leading edge (58) severs the remainder of the ply stocks (S) as the knife assembly (14) traverses the ply stock to a second lateral edge (22).

  • Patent number: 6926526
Abstract: The invention is an improved endodontic adapter for a sonic scaler consisting of a talon having a threaded end for insertion into the handle of the sonic scaler. A pair of downwardly pointed barbs protrudes radially from the side of the adapter for receiving an elastic ligature, which firmly holds the dental instrument such as file to the talon. The opposite end of the talon has a tapered shaft that receives an aperture drilled into the side of the dental instrument. The ligature is simply wrapped around the dental instrument on opposite sides of the talon and then the ends are wrapped around the downwardly pointing barbs.

  • Patent number: 6921447
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a cured, toothed belt is carried out upon a on a belt-making machine. The method includes incrementally molding sections of the belt with tooth spacing based on an estimated pitch circumference derived from a measured inside circumference, defining and measuring a length of a remaining uncured portion of the belt, the length of the remaining uncured portion of the belt being compared to a design length, a difference between the length of the remaining uncured portion of the belt and the design length being an error; and, adjusting a distance between a centerline of the first drum and the second drum, so that a compensating error is evenly distributed over the remaining uncured portion of the belt. One advantage of this invention is that the cumulative error generated by measuring and curing each section of the belt in an “end to end” manner can be compensated by small adjustments made over a large section of the belt, preventing a large error in the last section of the belt.

  • Patent number: 6913007
Abstract: Crossbow bowstring drawing mechanisms which are integrated into or secured in the crossbow handle and which provide a straight and balanced draw to the crossbow bowstring to cock the crossbow bowstring in position in the crossbow trigger mechanism ready for firing. The cocking system can be manually operated or motorized, and can be manufactured as part of a crossbow or retrofit into a crossbow. An internal or external source of rotational power, such as hand crank, power screwdriver or an electrical motor, is preferably utilized in conjunction with a claw member including a bowstring engaging portion to translate rotation of the input source to longitudinal movement of the claw member to draw or release the crossbow bowstring resulting with minimal effort being expended by the user. The claw member may include adjustable cams used to center the claw member with respect to the crossbow barrel.

  • Patent number: 6908584
Abstract: A tire press has an upper mold fixedly attached to a top plate. A bottom mold is fixedly attached to a bottom plate. The tire press has a plurality of guide posts adapted to maintain proper alignment of the upper mold and the lower mold as the tire press opens and closes. A plurality of lock rods, which are independent of the guide posts, are positioned about the tire press. Each of the lock rods has a first end and a second end. The lock rods may have an adjustment mechanism positioned on the first end of the lock rods to adjust the various mold heights. Locking means are a part of the tire press, which are adapted to selectively engage the second end of the lock rods. Further, each of the lock rods has cylinder mechanism operatively connected to the locking means. The cylinder mechanism is adapted to force the locking means to the surface of the lock rods. The cylinder mechanism is a hydraulic cylinder having the piston disposed within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6888092
Abstract: Electrode and nozzle that seat within a retaining member and in two different seating locations relative to retaining member. The electrode and nozzle each include an interwoven-double-start thread having two thread cuts, which start 180 degrees from one another as measured around the circumference of the electrode or nozzle. Further, the electrode, nozzle, and retaining member include mating frustum surfaces, which are configured and dimensioned so that the electrode and nozzle seat within the retaining member with less than one turn of the electrode and nozzle relative to the retaining member. Therefore, the electrode and nozzle may be quickly inserted in, and removed from, the retaining member.

  • Patent number: 6843444
Abstract: Method and apparatus for dynamic tracking of a belt as it is built on two rotatable drums separated by a center-to-center distance, especially during the cording process. In one embodiment, both edges of a belt component are temporarily equipped with corded edge binding which is engaged in a gap formed between upper and lower tracking wheels to provide proper alignment of the belt during the cording process and subsequent building steps. In a first tracking assembly, one pair of tracking wheels operates to constrain and align one edge of the belt and another pair, transversely spaced from the first pair, operates to constrain and align the second edge of the belt in the upper span of the belt immediately prior to the belt being positioned on a first drum. In each wheel pair, the axes are biased toward one another and slightly biased in the direction of travel of the belt.

  • Patent number: 6828367
Abstract: Co-Ion exchange of the interlayer cations of a layered silicate with a mono-protonated aromatic diamine and an alkyl ammonium ion into the silicate galleries. The presence of the alkyl ammonium ion provides low oligomer melt viscosity during processing. The presence of the diamine allows chemical reaction between the silicate surface modification and the monomers. This reaction strengthens the polymer silicate interface, and ensures irreversible separation of the individual silicate layers. Improved polymer thermal oxidative stability and mechanical properties are obtained.
