Abstract: A method for utilizing a Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) in an Ethernet network wherein a number of VLANs are defined and a plurality of Ethernet switching nodes (A, B, C D E, F,G H) are interconnected via their ports (A1, . . . ,H4) so that each of the ports is initially assigned to one or more VLANs, and each of the VLANs is intended to enable traffic between two or more edge ports (D3, B3). The method comprises a so-called pruning procedure initiated upon establishing a new STP topology (30) related to one or more VLANs. This procedure concerns a broadcast domain of at least one of the VLANs and is aimed at obtaining a sub-tree for each pruned VLAN in the new STP topology. The sub-tree is usually shrunk, bound by the edge ports assigned to the corresponding pruned VLAN, and thus eliminates broadcast traffic of the pruned VLAN to any Ethernet switch extending beyond the obtained sub-tree.

Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions useful for treating or controlling disease states or conditions associated with zinc containing proteinases, especially metalloproteinases. The active ingredient in these compositions is an alpha-oxo- or alpha-thioxophosphonate of formula (I). Out of the phosphonates of formula (I), some are known and others are new. The novel compounds constitute another aspect of the invention.

Abstract: Technology for rerouting a data stream in a communication circuit switched mesh network comprising one or more cross-connecting nodes, the data stream comprises a plurality of data frames each associated with at least one overhead byte, and the rerouting is performed by using a path identifier while switching the data stream at one or more cross-connecting nodes; the path identifier is carried by at least one overhead byte associated with at least one of the data frames.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a local area network wiring structure to simultaneously carry digital data and analog telephone signals on the same transmission medium. It is particularly applicable to a network in star topology, in which remote data units (e.g. personal computers) are each connected to a hub through a cable comprising at least two pairs of conductors, providing a data communication path in each direction. Modules at each end of the cable provide a phantom path for telephony (voice band) signals between a telephone near the data set and a PBX, through both conductor pairs in a phantom circuit arrangement. All such communication paths function simultaneously and without mutual interference. The modules comprise simple and inexpensive passive circuit components.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of polyamide nanocomposites made from base polymers comprising aromatic components and organically-modified phyllosilicates in a double-screw extruder with a front-feeder and a side-feeder. Said method is characterised in that a portion (A) from 8 to 15 wt. % of a granulate of the base polymer is introduced in the front-feeder of the double-screw extruder and the main portion (B) of said granulate of the base polymer is introduced by means of the side feeder of the double-screw extruder and that 2 to 8 wt. % of the modified phyllosilicate is introduced into the melt of the granulate portion (A) of the base polymer, whereby the wt. % proportions relate to the finished polyamide nanocomposite. According to the invention, packaging materials with high UV absorption and improved gas and aroma barrier effect can be produced by said method. Furthermore, the corresponding packagings the use thereof and moulded bodies produced by means of said method are disclosed.

Abstract: A method of modulating signal transduction and/or cleavage in Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptors (TNF-Rs) is provided. Peptides or other molecules may interact either with the receptor itself, or with effector proteins interacting with the receptor, thus modulating the normal functioning of the TNF-Rs. Such peptides or other molecules may be employed for prophylactic and therapeutic applications in TNF associated diseases.

Abstract: A clutch mechanism of the present power device comprises a fixed gear member, a moving gear member engaged with the fixed gear member when moving to a clutch connecting position, an armature for moving the moving gear member to the clutch connecting position when rotated relatively to the moving gear member, an electromagnetic coil unit for applying a brake resistance to the armature, and a clutch holding surface for abutting against the moving gear member when the electromagnetic coil unit is turned off in the clutch connecting state and for holding the moving gear member at a brake-clutch connecting position. The abutment of the moving gear member against the clutch holding surface is released by rotating the moving gear member relatively to the armature in a state in which the electromagnetic coil unit is operated.
Abstract: A multi-port rotary disc valve comprising a stator with a plurality of fluid flow ports and a rotary distributor with a plurality of channels arranged in a channel pattern. The channels are adapted to connect the ports between them and/or to the environment in a plurality of predetermined combinations, each combination being associated with an angular position of the rotary distributor with respect to the stator. The succession of combinations performed during a full or partial unidirectional turn of the rotary distributor consitute a predetermined sequence. The rotary distributor comprises a rotor and a mask mounted movably thereon, the rotor and the mask accommodating the plurality of channels. The mask is adapted to change the channel pattern by changing its position with respect to the rotor, thereby enabling the rotary disc valve to perform different predetermined sequences corresponding to different positions of the mask.
