  • Patent number: 6761221
Abstract: A slip assembly carried about a liner for lowering into a wellbore includes a C-ring having an inner conical surface contracted about a matching outer surface of the liner and held in contracted position by disposal of its end closely within a recess in the member. When its end is raised from the recess, the c-ring expands to cause its teeth to engage with the wellbore, whereby the liner may be lowered to further expand the c-ring to cause its teeth to dig into the wellbore to suspend the liner therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6755261
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for varying fluid pressure in a circulation system while circulating a kick out of a well bore 30 drilled through a subterranean formation using a drilling rig 25 and a drill string 50. The kick may be automatically circulated out of the well bore and/or a kill fluid may be circulated into the well bore. A controller 100 reduces the circulation rate by automatically controlling the rate of the pump 90 and the position of well bore choke 70. Various sensors interconnected with the controller may be used to maintain circulation system operation. The controller may control various components utilized in the circulation procedure to maintain a substantially constant bottom hole pressure on the formation while circulating the kick out of the well.

  • Patent number: 6752205
Abstract: An improved inflatable packer 10 is provided having a pre-stretched bladder to minimize Z-folding. An expandable outer body 11 includes an inner elastomeric bladder layer 12, a reinforcement layer 14 which may include overlapping slats or cable, and an outer elastomer cover layer 16 which may cover only a portion of the reinforcement layer 14. The bladder 12 may expand non-uniformly due to the variations in the cross-section of the borehole 20, irregularities in construction of the bladder 12, and/or difference in resistance to expansion between the covered portion and the exposed portion of the reinforcement layer 14. An improved inflatable packer and method comprises pre-stretching the bladder 12 to keep the bladder in tension and minimize the occurrence of Z-folds.

  • Patent number: 6745838
Abstract: The chemical injection system (10) is provided for controlling the distribution of chemical fluid from a supply conduit (12) into an individual petroleum well at an adjustable rate. The system includes a remotely operated two position control valve (14) connected to the supply conduit, and cylinder (30) having a cylinder bore (31) with first input-output port (34), and a second input-output port (36). The fluid barrier (50, 150, 250, 251) is provided within the cylinder bore, such that chemical fluid flows from the supply conduit through the control valve to one end of the cylinder bore and forces the barrier to displace a fixed volume of fluid. Each operation of the directional control valve reverses travel direction of the barrier within the cylinder bore and injects another fixed quantity of fluid into the well.

  • Patent number: 6741504
Abstract: A pumped voltage generating circuit for a semiconductor device is disclosed in which measures are taken to minimize undesirable gate-induced diode leakage, especially during standby or idle states of operation of the device. In one embodiment, the pumped voltage generating circuit comprises a charge pump for generating a voltage which is either higher than the voltage of an externally-applied positive supply voltage or lower than the voltage of an externally-applied negative supply voltage. In one disclosed embodiment, a voltage pump generates a pumped voltage and a voltage regulator provides a regulated voltage, where the pumped voltage is characterized as being either more positive than the most positive externally-applied positive voltage supply signal or more negative than the most negative externally-applied negative voltage signal. The pumped voltage and the regulated voltage are applied to respective inputs of a multiplexer receiving a select signal.
