  • Patent number: 5175928
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly having a metal or metallized plastic housing block (10) with contact members (26) contained within channels (12) in the block (10). The metallic housing block (10) provides a shield to eliminate cross-talk between the contact members (26). The contact members (26) are directly coated with a dielectric material, except where they perform an electrical contact function, to insulate them from the metallic housing block (10).

  • Patent number: 5157827
Abstract: A high density connector for electrically connecting a high density cable to a matable electrical connector has a housing with a plurality of terminals provided therein. The terminals have sharp outer edges which enable the terminals to cooperate with a portion of the connector to provide the securing force required to retain the terminals in position. The positioning of the terminals in the housing is accurately controlled through the use of an alignment tool which is manufactured from a material which does not expand or contract when exposed to various environmental conditions. Therefore, the precise positioning of the terminals is guaranteed and is repeatable for many connectors.

  • Patent number: 5159156
Abstract: A plurality of housings are attached by a carrier strip which does not produce loose piece material which can damage the work station to which the housings are to be delivered. The carrier strip has carrier projections which extend from each respective housing, the carrier projections have enlarged portions provided at the free ends thereof. A recess is provided on the housing, the recess has first and second openings which cooperate with the enlarged portions of the carrier projections, such that when the enlarged portions are positioned in the first opening, the housings will be spaced from each other in a carrier strip arrangement, and when the enlarged portions are positioned in the second opening, and the carrier projections are severed from their respective housings, the carrier projections will be entirely disposed within the recesses of the housing, thereby preventing loose material from the carrier projections from interfering with the work station in which the housing is to be used.

  • Patent number: 5151046
Abstract: An electrical connector for connecting a first printed circuit board to a second printed circuit board has terminal contacts which provide a reliable electrical connection. The contact terminals are positioned adjacent to a board receiving recess, and are configured to make an electrical connection with the second printed circuit board when the second printed circuit board is rotated to a second position. Overstress members, provided on the contact terminals, prevent the contact terminals from being deformed as the second printed circuit board is moved relative to the contact terminals. The overstress members are also configured to provide a reliable and relatively short pathway over which the electrial signals may travel between the boards.

  • Patent number: 5147222
Abstract: An electrical connector includes an outer shell (400) which is profiled to receive a pin housing (450) therein. The pin housing (450) has mounted therein a plurality of pins (622). The interior of the housing shell (400) is sealed by placing a grommet (624) over the end of a wire (626) and placing the terminal (622), the grommet (624) and wire (626) into the rear of the connector shell (400). To prevent the ingress of water into the shell (400), the grommet (624) includes at its exterior end, an elongate collar (624b) which, if the wire is pulled, will compress. This prevents the exterior ribs from pulling away from the aperture allowing the ingress of water.

  • Patent number: 5145356
Abstract: A pair of matable electrical connector housings (30 and 62) comprise a pair of longitudinally spaced locking ribs (52 and 54) on one housing (30) and a channel member (102) on the other housing (62) for receiving the locking ribs (52 and 54) as the housings (30 and 62) are being mated. The channel member (102) has an opening (108) for receiving a locking member (112) on a flexible arm (110) formed integrally with a side (100) of the housing (62). The arm (110) can be flexed to insert the locking member (112) through the opening (108) in the channel member (102) so that the locking member (112) is wedged therein so as to retain the housings (30 and 62) locked in a fully mated condition. Unless the ribs (52 and 54) have been fully inserted into the channel member (102), the housings (30 and 62) being then in a fully mated condition, the locking member (112) cannot be inserted through the opening therein.

  • Patent number: 5129317
Abstract: The press (2) comprises a housing (4) in the forward part of which a slide ram (22) is mounted on bearings (62). The ram (22) is driven by an electric motor (26) by way of reduction gear box (24), having an output shaft (79) to which is eccentrically mounted a stub shaft (78) surrounded by a roller bearing ring (80) in a bearing block roller (82). As the output shaft (79) is rotated by the motor (26), the roller (82) rolls back and forth along a guideway (74) formed in the rear face of the ram (22), to take up the eccentricity of the shaft (78). The ram (22) is centrally mounted in its bearings (62) to avoid its canting as it is driven.
