Abstract: For providing a permanent magnet type rotary electric machine that can reduce magnetic fluxes concentrated to one side in rotating direction on a magnetic pole circumferential face that causes torque ripple as well as ensure the mechanical strength, in the present invention, an outer circumference of respective magnetic poles is formed in a circular arc having a same curvature as well as the magnetic pole center axes of the respective magnetic poles are displaced with respect to the rotation center of a rotor so that an air gap between a stator and the respective magnetic pole outer circumferences at one side in the rotating direction is widened in comparison with the air gap at the other side.

Abstract: Proposed are a computing system and a data management method for improving the usage efficiency of logical volumes without lowering the response performance In a computing system that includes a first storage apparatus in which first and second storage volumes are configured, a file storage apparatus for controlling the first logical volume, a second storage apparatus, and an archive apparatus for controlling the second storage apparatus, the first storage apparatus acquires a snapshot of the first logical volume at regular or irregular intervals and stores differential data in the second logical volume, specifies a file for which the consumption amount of the second logical volume exceeds a predetermined threshold, causes the first storage apparatus to acquire a snapshot of the specified file, and if a read request to read the file is supplied, generates the file on the basis of data stored in the first and second logical volumes.
Abstract: Proposed are a highly reliable storage system and its control method capable of accelerating the processing speed of the copy processing seen from the host device. With the storage system and its control method which stores a command issued from a host device in a command queue and executes the command stored in the command queue in the order that the command was stored in command queue, a copy queue is set for temporarily retaining a copy command among the commands issued from the host device in the memory, the copy command among the commands is moved from the host device stored in the command queue to the copy queue and an execution completion reply of copy processing according to the command is sent to the host device as a sender of the command, and the copy command that was moved to the copy queue is executed in the background in the order that the copy command was stored in the copy queue.

Abstract: The reliability is improved at a low cost even in a virtualized server environment. The number of spare servers is reduced for improving the reliability and for saving a licensing fee for software on the spare servers. A server system comprises a plurality of physical servers on which a plurality of virtual servers run, a single standby server, a module for detecting an active virtual server, and a module for switching the correspondence of boot disks of virtualization modules for controlling virtual servers to the physical servers. When a physical server fails, the boot disk of the associated virtualization module is connected to a spare server to automatically activate on the spare server those virtual servers which have been active upon occurrence of the failure.

Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a semiconductor device, a protection film can be formed using a double exposure technology to increase a developer resistance of the protection film without increasing the thickness of the protection film for realizing fine patterning. The method comprises forming a protection film on a first resist pattern formed on a substrate; and forming a second resist pattern on the protection film between parts of the first resist pattern. The protection film is formed in at least two layers by using different methods.
Abstract: In MIMO transmission between M transmission antennas and N reception antennas, a transmission signal vector is set as a vector having 2M elements comprising in-phase components and quadrature components of M complex signals, a reception signal vector is set as a vector having 2N elements comprising in-phase components and quadrature components of N complex signals, and a transfer matrix is set as a real matrix comprising 2N rows and 2M columns. Then, a transfer matrix containing IQ mismatch is obtained based on a training signal, thereby executing MIMO encoding and decoding. For learning of the transfer matrix, a training signal which has two linearly-independent signal points on a constellation for each of the transmission antennas is used. With such an arrangement, in MIMO transmission, IQ mismatch in a quadrature modulator and a quadrature demodulator can be compensated and a bit error rate can be improved.
Abstract: In a storage system in which computers are connected via a network, in order to avoid a state where communication quality is degraded due to poor performance of an apparatus constituting the network, for a transfer data amount, an amount of data sent out from a storage apparatus is suppressed. Moreover, the storage apparatus inhibits a read-ahead process, in accordance with the suppression of the sending out of the data. Furthermore, proper load allocation is realized by migrating a logical storage unit provided by the storage, to another network interface or a second storage apparatus, without changing a configuration of the network.

Abstract: A method is provided that creates a lecture video capsule containing highlights of an original instructional video based on visual quality and content. The method includes segmenting and recognizing activities in the instructional video using a hidden Markov model (HMM). The activities are classified into three categories: talking head, writing hand and slideshow. The talking head frames are classified as non-content frames, while the writing hand and slideshows are classified as content frames. A non-reference based objective quality assessment of the non-content frames may be performed to detect high quality frames. Statistical parameters of an intensity histogram and a horizontal projection profile (HPP) of the content frames may be used to derive an objective quality measure of the content frames that is used to extract high quality content frames. The selected high quality non-content and content frames form a video clip or capsule, which is a temporally compressed representation of the video.

The remote monitoring system includes an apparatus that generates electrical signals, a remote monitoring module that is remote from the apparatus, and a transmission module. The transmission module is provided adjacent to the apparatus and transmits data that correspond to the electrical signals via a cellular network to the remote monitoring system. The remote monitoring module receives the signal and determines a condition of the apparatus based on the received electrical signal.

The method includes estimating a high resolution image from a plurality of low resolution images and downsampling the estimated high resolution image to obtain estimates of a plurality of low resolution images. The method also includes generating a desired high resolution image based upon comparison of the downsampled low resolution images and the plurality of low resolution images.
Abstract: The surface length of a metal subject to be inspected is evaluated by detecting an eddy current without using a combination of a scale and visual or liquid penetrant inspection. An exciting coil and a detecting coil are scanned above the subject in a length direction. An eddy current detector measures an output voltage corresponding to scanning positions based on an output from the detecting coil. Based on an output voltage distribution curve indicating a distribution of output voltages corresponding to the scanning positions, position information is extracted corresponding to values which are within a differential voltage range and lower by 12 dB than a maximum value of the output voltages on the left and right sides of the distribution. A distance between the positions included in the extracted information is calculated to evaluate the length of a slit which is a defect present on the subject surface.
Abstract: The present invention provides an image and video indexing scheme for content analysis. According to the invention, a database of images or videos is compressed. By examining patterns in the compression scheme of each image or video, the present invention identifies the content of the data. In one embodiment, an unsupervised learning method is employed where each image or video is sub-divided into smaller blocks (8 pixels×8 pixels, for instance) and each of the smaller blocks is examined for its compression pattern. Then, the patterns associated with each of the smaller blocks is recorded for each of the images in the database and content is retrieved from the database by associating certain patterns or groups of patterns with certain content.
