  • Patent number: 8284635
Abstract: When a semiconductor laser is arranged outside a slider and a light is to be guided to the slider through a waveguide, the following problems will be solved: the stability of the flying slider is deteriorated due to a stress from the waveguide; and when an actuator is arranged near the flying slider, the motions of the slider are hindered by the waveguide. A waveguide for guiding a light to a light irradiating unit inside a slider, which floats over a medium and has the light irradiating unit for irradiating a light to the medium; and a waveguide for propagating a light from the light source to the waveguide inside the slider, are included. The two waveguides are not in contact with each other, and a relative portion between the two waveguides is movable.

  • Patent number: 8277192
Abstract: An airfoil profile is formed such that a passage width ratio, represented in a dimensionless manner, of an inter-blade passage width of vane root cross-section to an outlet throat width substantially monotonously decreases from a blade inlet toward a blade outlet. The blade has a blade airfoil profile shape in an envelope within a range of .+?.2.0 mm in a direction normal to any surface location of an airfoil profile portion. The airfoil profile portion has a reference airfoil contour represented in Cartesian coordinates wherein Z is a distance representing a sectional height from a root of the airfoil profile portion. The contours represented by X and Y at each section Z are joined smoothly with one another in a blade height direction to form a complete shape of the airfoil profile portion.

  • Patent number: 8280190
Abstract: To provide a processing method for reducing motion blur while increasing resolution. By performing a super-resolution process, a resolution-increased image is obtained from an input image in multiple frames. By performing an enlargement process, an enlarged image is obtained from the input image in one frame. A high-frequency image is obtained by subtracting the enlarged image from the resolution-increased image. A high spatial frequency-emphasized image is obtained by adding the high-frequency image to the resolution-increased image. The enlarged image and high spatial frequency-emphasized image are displayed alternately every half frame.

  • Patent number: 8275827
Abstract: Software-based network attached storage (NAS) services are hosted on a massively distributed processing system configured by coupling a multiplicity of distributed devices with a network, wherein each of the distributed devices are enabled to process workloads for the distributed processing system by a client agent program. More particularly, the client agent program is configured with a NAS software component to enable selected distributed devices from the multiplicity of distributed devices to appear to client devices coupled to the network as dedicated NAS devices. The NAS software component allocates an available amount of storage resources in the selected distributed devices to provide NAS services to the client devices. Storage priority controls, including user specified constraints, standard bit, block and file priority levels, and direct bit, block or file priority markings may be utilized to facilitate the full use of the available amounts of unused storage in the selected distributed devices.

  • Patent number: 8275965
Abstract: For a storage apparatus in which flash memory disks and hard disks coexist, high-density mounting of flash memory modules is achieved. A storage apparatus in accordance with the present invention includes flash memories and a storage controller. A second storage apparatus including magnetic disks is connected to the storage apparatus. For creation of a logical volume, the storage controller can form a storage area using a flash memory or a magnetic disk. When an input/output request is issued from a host computer, if a storage area is formed with a flash memory, the storage controller directly accesses the flash memory to handle the input/output request. When the storage apparatus defines a storage area formed with a flash memory, the storage apparatus defines the storage area by adding up the capacity of a storage area to be provided for the host computer and a substitute area capacity determined in consideration of restrictions imposed on the number of times of deletion of the flash memory.
