  • Patent number: 7388190
Abstract: The invention provides a monitoring device mainly for sensing ground displacement, including the fiber Bragg grating sensored deflectometer and the signal interrogator/computer system. The device uses a segmented design that consists of a flexible tube (referred to as the flexible segment) and two rigid segments and thus referred to as the double hinged FBG segmented deflectometer (DH-FBG-SD). For field installation, multiple DH-FBG-SD units are connected together to form a string as it is inserted into a grouted-in-place inclinometer casing. The distortion of the inclinometer casing induced by ground movement causes relative rotation of the inserted DH-FBG-SD. All of the DH-FBG-SD units are connected to an FBG interrogator/computer system situated on ground surface. The FBG signals are recorded and analyzed by the interrogator/computer system.

  • Patent number: 7382951
Abstract: The present invention provides a fiber Bragg Grating sequential writing method with real-time optical fiber position monitoring, characterized in that the relative phase between a fiber grating and a writing interference beam at each positioning point is determined by an interferometric side-diffraction method, and writing is sequentially performed. Accuracy in fabricating a long and complex fiber grating structure can be increased by decreasing or avoiding accumulative errors caused by long-term scan of monitoring optical fiber position, or by a means for fabricating a wanted reference fiber Bragg grating with similar settings.

  • Patent number: 7374312
Abstract: The present invention provides a bottom lighting backlight module comprising: a light reflecting plate, a plurality of light sources such as lamp and LED; and a diffusion sheet; wherein said diffusion sheet has an excavated structure of shape with cross-section of an inverted triangle having a specific apex angle ranging from 110 degrees to 130 degrees. Some of the light incident on the excavated structure inside the diffusion sheet can be totally reflected and redirected sideways, so that it is possible to reduce the local brightness for area around each light source but significantly improve the evenness of brightness for the whole module.

  • Patent number: 7363037
Abstract: In this invention, a novel vertical handover control algorithm, consisting of a throughput-based mapping function, QoS-based dynamic handover thresholds, and performance-based trigger timers, are proposed to resolve uncommon pilot problem, QoS requirements, and ping-pong effects, respectively. An analytic model based on a finite state machine is developed to evaluate the proposed algorithm in terms of the handover frequency and achievable throughput. A numerical analysis is also provided to further quantify the performance impacts.

  • Patent number: 7357756
Abstract: An assessment of an individual with respect to flexibility, cardiovascular condition, body fat composition, muscular strength and condition, as well as other health conditions and limitations is made. Based on this assessment a specific fitness plan is determined for the individual which includes a detailed workout program of specific exercises. A plurality of video segments is selected from a series of video segments stored in a computer wherein each selected video segment is a specific exercise of the detailed workout program and recorded on a D.V.D. or video cassette tape or made available on a secure web site. Also, the assessment of the individual and the specific fitness plan including the detailed workout program can be accomplished automatically by computer.

  • Patent number: 7339436
Abstract: This invention relates to a low noise amplifier, used in radio frequency integrated circuit design, especially low noise amplifiers for ultra broad-band wireless communication, comprising at least a transistor of the core circuit of a low noise amplifier structure, a transformer that is implemented on the chip, in order to form a dual feedback amplifier, that is, an amplifier structure comprising an inductive feedback and a capacitive feedback, wherein the capacitive feedback is used for the low and medium frequency range, while the inductive feedback is used for the high frequency range. By assembling an amplifier circuit with these two feedback paths, it is possible to provide a broadband and good impedance matching at the signal input end of the circuit.

  • Patent number: 7293805
Abstract: This invention relates to a type of safety door central release device which can be used to close the safety door automatically when electric power is disrupted. It comprises a cord that is tied to a mechanism having potential energy on one end, and extended to a far distance on the other end; a pair of crank arms of which one end molded as a grip and gripping the cord, and the other end is connected to a sliding bar, having potential energy which assists the grip in release the cord. When electric power is supplied, the sliding bar will be attracted to an electromagnet. As a result, while electric power is disrupted, the release device can immediately release the cord. Due to release of the cord, a brake for a door operator is released by means of the mechanism such that the safety door slides down and then it is closed.

  • Patent number: 7294202
Abstract: Process for fabricating self-assembled nanoparticles on buffer layers without mask making and allowing for any degree of lattice mismatch; that is, binary, ternary or quaternary nanoparticles comprising Groups III-V, II-VI or IV-VI. The process includes a first step of applying a buffer layer, a second step of turning on the purge gas to modulate the first reactant to the lower first flow rate, then the second reactant is supplied to the buffer layer to form a metal-rich island on the buffer layer, and a third step of turning on purge gas again to modulate the first reactant to the higher second flow rate onto the buffer layer. On the metal-rich island is formed the nanoparticles of the binary, ternary or quaternary III-V, II-VI and IV-IV semiconductor material. This is then recrystallized under the first reactant flow at high temperature forming high quality nanoparticles.
