  • Patent number: 4076883
Abstract: A flame-sprayable flexible wire comprising a mineral powder having a particle size of less than about 140 mesh and about 5 to 70% by volume of the wire of a polyurethane or epoxy polymer. Advantageously the wire is produced by forming the requisite mixture plus a curing agent, effecting a partial cure in a sheet form, crumbling the sheet to coarse granules and extruding the granules to form the wire. The mineral powder particles may first be coated with a surface active resin such as a silicone which promotes adhesion to the polymer and which protects the polymer from the degradative effect of the mineral. The preferred surface active resins are silicones. The wire retains its strength and flexibility over long periods of time and produces high quality flame sprayed surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4076757
Abstract: A series of mono, bi and tricarbocyclic compounds, most of which have olefinic unsaturation in the ring, which may or may not have substituents thereon. While the bi and tricyclic rings may be unsubstituted, these compounds which have olefinic unsaturation, particularly multiple olefinic unsaturation, are polymerizable and copolymerizable in known polymerization systems. They are particularly good crosslinking agents. These compounds are further useful in the sense that they can be cleaved oxidatively, to corresponding carboxylic acids, aldehydes and/or alcohols which have known utility in the plasticizer and detergent arts. The compounds which do not have olefinic unsaturation can also be oxidatively cleaved to produce oxygenated, e.g., acid, alcohol or aldehyde, compounds having known utility.

  • Patent number: 4076982
Abstract: The sample crucibles inserted in a slide rod are introduced, through a high vaccum lock, into the ion source of a mass spectrometer. The slide rod, together with its drive, is mounted on a lock carriage which runs parallel to the direction of travel of the slide rod. The lock carriage has a separate drive and carries, on the end face which points towards the mass spectrometer, a stuffing box for the vacuum-tight passage of the slide rod. On the rear wall of the high vacuum lock is mounted an O-ring seal, which, with the lock carriage moved in, seals the remaining space between the rear wall of the lock and the end face of the lock carriage, in the region of the slide rod. The sample crucibles can be taken out selectively from the sample magazine, which can slide at right angles to the slide rod, by means of the holder mounted at the end of the slide rod.

  • Patent number: 4075321
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing vaccines, which consists in bringing into contact a toxic product with glutaraldehyde at a concentration and for a duration just sufficient to detoxify or inactivate said toxic product, and in stopping the glutaraldehyde-antigen reaction as soon as said inactivation stage is reached by physical and/or chemical means. The thus obtained inactivate product remaining antigenic and retaining its immunizing power, is usable as a vaccine for the preventive treatment of human and animals against infections caused for example by microbial or venomous toxins.

Abstract: An O,O-dialkyl-dithiophosphoric acid ester is reacted in two steps with approximately an equimolar amount of chlorine, the first step at about 0.degree. to 80.degree. C with all the reactants supplied, and the second step at about 0.degree. to 100.degree. C with precipitation of sulfur from the disulfur dichloride which is produced as a by-product in the first step and which serves as the chlorinating agent in the second step. Advantageously the first step is carried out continuously in two stages about one-third to two-thirds of the chlorine being supplied continuously to each stage. The first stage is at about 30.degree. to 60.degree. C and the second stage at about 10.degree. to 25.degree. C. The second step is thereafter performed batchwise and the desired product is distilled off from the residual sulfur.
