  • Patent number: 4492524
Abstract: A multiple piston pump with a constant discharge capacity for liquid chromatographs comprises at least three piston-cylinder units (1,2,3), whereof the pistons (7) are driven through a non-linear drive by a motor (23) with a mutual phase displacement of 360.degree./n, when n represents the number of piston-cylinder units. A regulating system varies the speed of the motor (23) during each period or cycle of the piston movement in such a manner as to compensate for the non-linear drive so that the pressure of the liquid conveyed during each period or cycle remains at least approximately constant. The motor (23) can be constructed as a stepping motor, which is supplied with current pulses whereof the frequency determines the speed of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4490675
Abstract: An electromagnet for producing the constant magnetic field required for use in NMR tomography consists of a cylindrical field coil and a stable cylindrical shell made of iron encompassing and simultaneously supporting the coil. The field coil may comprise constituent coils, including error coils, and is capable of producing an at least approximately homogeneous magnetic field within the space defined by the field coil for receiving the object to be examined. Due to the strictly symmetric geometry of the coil assembly, the homogeneity of the magnetic field is not adversely affected by temperature fluctuations, even if the dimensions of the apparatus are such that the coil will admit a human body.

  • Patent number: 4475620
Abstract: A loudspeaker is provided for high-quality and particularly stereophonic sound reproducing systems positioned close to a wall of a room. To reduce distortion due to that part of the reflected sound which arrives from substantially the same direction as the direct sound, the positioning of the sound radiating surfaces is such as to make the reflected sound from the wall arrive substantially in phase with the direct sound throughout a large frequency range, while at higher frequencies the reflected sound is attenuated by a sound absorber. The loudspeaker has a casing with a rear wall (5a). Loudspeaker units arranged to be the sound source for mid-range (12b) and/or high (14a) frequencies has the sound radiating surfaces (12b, 15a) at short distance (D2, D1) from the plane of the rear wall (5a) and facing slantwise forwards.

  • Patent number: 4474890
Abstract: The invention relates to a tank-type container for the processing of wine grape must, particularly a fermentation tank for red wine must. The tank is equipped with a slowly rotating agitator having a plurality of longitudinally spaced blades disposed the full length of its shaft extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tank. The invention resides in at least one section, preferably an outward section, of the cross-sectional area of the agitator blades parallel to the agitator shaft being larger than the cross-sectional area which is normal to the agitator shaft. The pomace cap floating on the surface of the juice is disintegrated and punched down into the body of the juice by means of the flat wide blade sections.

  • Patent number: 4464570
Abstract: In ion cyclotron resonance spectroscopy, a gaseous sample substance contained in a measuring cell and exposed to a constant magnetic field therein is ionized and is subsequently subjected to an electric HF measuring field oriented orthogonally to the magnetic field. The frequencies of the electric field encompass the frequencies of the cyclotron resonance frequencies of the ions of the sample substance. Sample substances often include ions which are of no interest to the material under study but which produce very strong lines that can be highly disturbing because of the limited dynamics of the spectrometer and, especially, the relatively low concentration of ions in the measuring cell which is necessary to prevent space charge effects.

  • Patent number: 4462022
Abstract: A wireless security system in which a sensor for detecting a security violation is provided with a radio frequency transmitter adapted to excite the receiver of a control unit at a different location, the transmitter of the sensor radiating a signal responsive to the occurrence of a security violation. The sensor also having means to periodically excite the transmitter after the lapse of a period of time to indicate that the sensor is in proper working order, that period varying randomly. The control unit is provided with a memory and stores responses to the random signals, and at intervals long with respect to the random periods, samples the memory. The control unit responds to the absense of a stored response from the transmissions of the sensor. In a preferred construction, a plurality of sensors are employed with a single control unit, each of the sensors radiating a unique encoded signal.

  • Patent number: 4456933
Abstract: For transferring data between a random access memory (RAM) and a rotating magnet memory on which the data are stored in tracks which can be addressed individually, the data are divided into blocks, each of which fits to one track of the magnetic memory, and each of the tracks of the magnetic memory is assigned to a different one of the data blocks. The addresses for the individual data in RAM are formed by adding the starting address indicating the beginning of the corresponding data block and the offset indicating the position of the individual data with regard to the starting address. The transfer of a data block starts at an address determined by the position of the magnetic memory when a transfer command occurs and it is performed by cyclically modifying the offset according to the number of storage locations belonging to one data block.

  • Patent number: 4454673
Abstract: The invention concerns an automatic safety device for handguns and especially for self-loading pistols, in which a longitudinally movable firing pin is secured positively by a spring-loaded safety member which, on the one hand, is carried in a recess in the weapon and, on the other, engages in a transverse recess in the firing pin. For the release of a shot, the safety member is forced out of the firing pin area by the trigger before the release of a hammer. In order to achieve an enhanced security against unintended release, e.g. through shock or fall of the weapon, as well as a more economical production, the safety member is in the form of a rocker which engages in the firing pin with an arm and is preferably accommodated in a slot in a bolt, in some cases rotatable, arranged at right angles to the weapon.

  • Patent number: 4454765
Abstract: The useful range of the disclosed pressure transducers is extended by isolating the sensing means of the transducer from bending moments produced in the transducer body by the fluid pressure being measured. The isolating means may comprise an isolating ring interposed between the body and the sensor means, disposed behind a diaphragm which is attached to the isolating ring and the body. The isolating ring is connected to the body by means adapted to hold the sensor means in an established relationship with the diaphragm while being of a character to avoid transmitting bending moments, whereby the isolating ring and the sensor means are isolated from bending moments developed in the body due to fluid pressure.
