  • Patent number: 7025971
Abstract: Novel methods for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of diseases caused by tissue-adhering bacteria are disclosed. By interacting with periplasmic molecular chaperones it is achieved that the assembly of pili is prevented or inhibited and thereby the infectivity of the bacteria is diminished. Also disclosed are methods for screening for drugs as well as methods for the de novo design of such drugs, methods which rely on novel computer drug modelling methods involving an approximative calculation of binding free energy between macromolecules. Finally, novel pyranosides which are believed to be capable of interacting with periplasmic molecular chaperones are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6990435
Abstract: A system for detecting tactile information includes strain-gauge touch sensors and a controller. Based on the sum output from each of tough-sensor sensor units, an analyzer in the controller calculates touch force Fi(t) at each measurement point. An automatic gain control adjusts the voltage amplitude Ai(t) of a sine wave of frequency fi applied to the sensor units at each measurement point to bring the voltage amplitude measured at each measurement point in line with a target voltage. The adjusted voltage Ai(t) is applied to the bandpass filter with a composite sine wave y(t) which includes sine waves of each frequency corresponding to the adjusted voltage amplitude Ai(t). This makes it possible to reduce the number of lines between the controller and touch sensors that includes numerous measurement points, and enables the gain of the touch sensors constituted by strain gauges to be controlled within an appropriate range.

  • Patent number: 6989681
Abstract: Probes 1 for testing and outer connecting terminals 14a are electrically connected to a test socket for semiconductor devices. In use of a connecting sheet, fabricated by an elastically deformative insulating member and electrodes 202, flexibility is given, and good electrical contacts are obtainable. Further, because the connecting sheet 2 is exchangeable, contacting capability is recovered by exchange when solder debris is adhered and deposited to increase contact resistances. Accordingly, even though there is scattering of the heights of the outer connecting terminals, good electrical contact with the probes is obtainable, and even though the solder debris of the outer connecting terminals is adhered and deposited as a result of repeated usage, tests can be continuously conducted, wherein the test socket for semiconductor devices has good maintenance capability.

  • Patent number: 6988057
Abstract: Low-frequency duct noise is relatively difficult to deal with by passive methods such as porous duct lining. Reactive methods like expansion chamber are rather bulky, while compact resonators are to narrow-banded. This invention shows that a suitably stetched thin membrane backed by a slender cavity can achieve a satisfactory performance from low to medium frequencies over an octave band.

  • Patent number: 6984358
Abstract: A method for producing diffusion bonds between components formed of tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) uses aid material to accelerate diffusion across the joint surfaces. The aid material consists of an alloy of palladium (Pd) with one or more of the secondary elements of nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), or cobalt (Co). The secondary elements are selected to correspond to the secondary elements present in the components. The diffusion bonding is carried out by placing diffusion aid material between the joint surfaces of adjacent components, applying a pressure across the joint surfaces, and processing the assembly through a thermal profile. Structures of WHA with complex shapes, interior volumes and/or large sizes can be formed. The joint properties are equal to or superior to those of the parent material of the components.

  • Patent number: 6984002
Abstract: A brake hydraulic pressure generator is proposed in which the brake stroke fluctuate less when the amount of brake fluid consumed in the wheel brakes fluctuates. Even when the brake pedal force is increased after the brake assisting force has reached its maximum, the reaction force to the pedal force as well as the master cylinder pressure increases corresponding to the increased pedal force. The brake hydraulic pressure generator has a control valve including a spool and a cylinder and adapted to control the hydraulic pressure in a dynamic pressure chamber to a value corresponding to the stroke of an input shaft. It further includes a pressure sensor, a solenoid valve and a fluid chamber.
