Abstract: In the method disclosed, three or more infrared images of a body having concealed objects are acquired, each image resulting in a response of a detector having a spectral sensitivity in the infrared that is analogous to one of the spectral sensitivities of the color response of the human eye, and each image corresponding to a different spectral sensitivity. At least the center of the spectral sensitivity corresponding to the Green response at the human eye is selected to allow increasing the detected radiation difference between the concealed object and the body. The responses of the detector to each of the three or more images are utilized to provide RGB signals to a display device. The color image displayed in the display device allows identifying the concealed object.
Abstract: A semiconductor patch antenna for microwave radiation having a wide pin-junction or pn-junction with the depletion region or embodiments having a separating buried oxide (SiO2) layer between p- and n-doped regions as the natural resonator volume. Embodiments that do not include a metal ground plane and/or a metal patch are disclosed.

Abstract: A method of operating a set of devices comprises receiving a real-world description in the form of an instruction set of a markup language, the description including asset terms and effect terms, requesting assets and effects according to the description, modifying at least one asset according to at least one effect, and operating the devices according to the assets.
Abstract: Provided are methods of applying a tissue marking to a tissue and rendering said tissue marking colorless when desired, comprising implanting into the tissue an amount of the tissue marking in sufficient quantity to form a detectable marking, said tissue marking comprising at least one colored compound comprising a thermally activatable fragmentation group and at least one infrared absorbing compound, wherein the at least one colored compound is capable of being rendered colorless by unimolecular fragmentation of the thermally activatable fragmentation group when the tissue marking is non-imagewise exposed by a source of infrared radiation and applying sufficient infrared radiation to a sufficient amount of the tissue marking to render the tissue marking colorless when desired.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a drug delivery system and method provide a member including a combination of a drug substance and a polymer or other material, and an encapsulating layer formed in an outer surface of the member by gas cluster ion beam irradiation of the outer surface of the member, which encapsulating layer is adapted to determine one or more characteristics of the drug delivery system.
Abstract: A method for transmitting a message securely between two entities, a sender and a receiver remotely located from each other and a system for carrying out the method is disclosed. The method includes using an array containing numbers based on the infinite sequence of value of ‘pi’; selecting a pattern and tracing and extracting the selected pattern along the numbers in the array sequentially to form a decimal number string. The decimal string is partitioned and converted to binary which is used as a cipher for coding the message by XORing.
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present teachings provide for an efficient means to implement bidirectional data and signal channels in optical interconnects. Each optical interconnect channel may include two pairs of emitters and detectors that are imaged onto each other. Many such bidirectional optical channels may be simultaneously interconnected in dense two-dimensional arrays. The send or receive state of each bidirectional optical channel may be directly set in some embodiments by an electronic control signal. In other bidirectional optical channel embodiments, the send/receive state may be controlled locally and autonomously as derived from the output of the local detector.

Abstract: A gas-cluster-jet generator with improved vacuum management techniques and apparatus is disclosed. The gas-cluster-jet generator comprises a substantially conically shaped vacuum chamber for housing the nozzle and jet exit portions of the gas-cluster-jet generator. A skimmer may be located at the narrow end of the conical chamber and a close-coupled vacuum pump is located at the wide end of the conical chamber. Support members for the nozzle are high conductivity “spider” supports that provide support rigidity while minimizing gas flow obstruction for high pumping speed. The conically shaped vacuum chamber redirects un-clustered gas in a direction opposite the direction of the gas-cluster-jet for efficient evacuation of the un-clustered gas. The nozzle and a skimmer may have fixed precision relative alignment, or may optionally have a nozzle aiming adjustment feature for aligning the gas-cluster-jet with the skimmer and downstream beamline components.
Abstract: A system and method for automatically transposing an image from a circular image space to another image space, for example, horizontal. Examples of applications include a mail piece a roundel on a mail piece. On a mail piece, company name, city and state, or zip code information can be contained in the roundel instead of, for example, in the permit block. The system implements the methods electronically. Control and data information is electronically executed and stored on computer-readable media.
Abstract: A vessel for use in clinical analysis including an open top, a closed bottom, and at least four tapered sides. A method for collecting magnetic particles in a fluid comprising the steps of providing a magnet and a vessel containing magnetic particles in a fluid, attracting the magnetic particles to the magnet, and moving the magnetic particles with the magnet out of the fluid.

Abstract: A linear array fiber-optic temperature sensor based upon fluorescence-decay technology allows for optical cabling to employ multiple, individually optically addressed optical fibers with sensing tips located in a single sensing tube. The sensing tips are arranged with a pre-determined, fixed relative spacing to form a linear array of temperature measurement points. Multiple such linear array sensors may be further arranged.
Abstract: A portable currency reader and process for detecting the value of currency comprising the detection and reading of the security stripe in currency swiped through the reader by sensing color intensities in light transmitted or refracted through the swiped bill illuminated with ultraviolet radiation and correlating a local maximum intensity of the fluoresced color associated with the value of the currency with a maximum of a calculated composite value of refracted light associated with a discontinuity indicating the presence of the security stripe.
