Abstract: A piston and method of making a piston which involves providing a single piece piston blank that, after casting or forging, is separated into separate upper and lower portions. The upper portion is machined to develop a piston head having that includes a cooling gallery portion and the lower portion is machined to develop a piston body having a cooling gallery portion, a skirt and a pair of opposed pin bores. After machining the piston head and piston body are attached together and the resulting assembly is machine finished into a finished piston.
Abstract: A foldable head restraint has two head restraint supports set within a bracket. A latch is made integral with at least one of the head restraint supports. The latch rests against a stop to prohibit rotation of the head restraint support in a first direction. The latch rests against a rotational cam to prohibit movement of the head restraint support in a second direction. By rotating the cam, the head restraint support may be folded. The head restraint support is comprised of a metal substrate with over-molded plastic geometry to accept a mating part configured within the head restraint bun. The geometry of the metal substrate and over-molded plastic geometry allow for a reduction, or even elimination, of the slots that are normally required for such a folding head restraint. This ability to fold can yield greater rearward visibility and aid in the kinematic motion of the seat.

Abstract: A polyfluoroalkyl alcohol, or a (meth)acrylic acid derivative thereof, represented by the following general formula: CnF2n+1(CH2CF2)a(CF2CF2)b(CH2CH2)cOR (R:H or (meth)acrylic acid group; n: 1-6; a: 1-4; b: 1-3; and c: 1-3). Polyfluoroalkyl alcohol (R: hydrogen atom) can be produced by reaction of fluoroalkyl iodide represented by the following general formula: CnF2n+1(CH2CF2)a(CF2CF2)b(CH2CH2)cI with N-methyl formamide, followed by hydrolysis in the presence of an acid catalyst, whereas polyfluoroalkyl alcohol (meth)acrylic acid derivative (R: (meth)acrylic acid group) can be produced by reaction of the polyfluoroalkyl alcohol with (meth)acrylic acid.
Abstract: This invention aims to provide a composite sheet having a layer of inelastically stretchable continuous fibers improved so that a possible unevenness in fiber diameter may be minimized. A composite sheet comprises an elastically stretchable layer and an inelastically stretchable layer formed with inelastically stretchable continuous fibers bonded to at least one surface of the elastically stretchable layer intermittently in one direction. The continuous fibers are oriented substantially in one direction thereof so that the composite sheet may present a ratio S1/S2 of 3.0 or higher where S1 represents a tensile strength in this one direction and S2 represents a tensile strength in the direction orthogonal to this one direction.
Abstract: A mounting bracket assembly that is configured for removably supporting storage containers therein at an acute angle with respect to the vertical. The mounting bracket assembly includes a mounting leg for mounting the mounting bracket assembly to a vertical support structure, a support leg, a cross-piece complementary shaped to the upper cross-sectional shape of a storage container, and a support/brace for supporting the bottom of the storage container. The mounting bracket assembly can further include a base from which the mounting leg and support leg extend upwardly.
Abstract: A water-absorbent structure comprises an assembly of thermoplastic synthetic fibers, cellulose-based fibers, super-absorbent polymer and water-pervious sheets wrapping these components together. The assembly is a honeycomb construction having a plurality of through-holes and normally in a compressed state. Upon water permeation into the water-absorbent structure, the super-absorbent polymer is swollen and softened and the assembly is swollen so that the through-holes restore the initial state before the assembly has been compressed.
