  • Patent number: 4986822
Abstract: A rectal-colon dilator and fecal collector assembly having a tubular member with a meltable cap at one end and an external base member for supporting the tubular member at its other end. The base member has a circular aperture communicating with the tubular member, and a collector bag is connected to communicate with the aperture in sealing relation. A flange around the tubular member near its outer end has screws that engage circular slots in the base member for clamping these parts together by simple rotation of the tubular member with respect to the base member. The base member is saddle-shaped to conform to the patient's body. Upon insertion of the tubular member, peristalsis and defecation are effected in the patient, and fecal matter passes out through the tube and into the collection bag.

  • Patent number: 4961656
Abstract: An endless loop ribbon cassette wherein the storage of a ribbon in a ribbon cassette is effected by a belt assembly which causes the ribbon to move along a generally linear path substantially corresponding to one dimension of a storage cavity. This effects an ordered, rather than a random, storage of a ribbon. In addition, a ribbon is obliquely positioned with respect to a line of print of a printer with which a cassette is to be used.

  • Patent number: 4959734
Abstract: An interactive control system including a wide bandwidth, random access recorder including a recording which contains sequentially recorded discete sets of co-located video, audio and digital information including, for example, a question or other interrogation signal, and wherein at an end of a set of such co-located recorded information there would be recorded a multiplicity of digital signals, each signal being comprised of an "answer" portion and a "second location" portion. Further, circuitry is provided to halt the playback of the recording when an input from the user is required for the purposes of testing, measuring or selecting and where the recording medium is halted before the location of the multiplicity of digital signal portions is reached. Further, circuitry is provided for a digital response to the interrogation signal to be obtained from a manual or automatic operation and placed in a "response" digital storage register.

  • Patent number: 4947216
Abstract: A cleaning device for an electrophotographic copying device wherein an electrophotographic latent image formed on the surface of a photosensitive member is moved past a series of processing stations including a developing station at which the latent image is developed with a toner to form a toner image and a transfer station at which the toner image is transferred to a copying material. The cleaning device includes a housing having a reservoir therein and an aperture extending longitudinally along the housing in communication with the reservoir to direct spent toner particles therein. A wiper blade is secured to the housing and extends therefrom. The blade is provided with a cleaning edge disposed for contact with the surface of the photosensitive member and for application of a predetermined pressure to the photosensitive surface responsive to contact of the blade with the photosensitive surface for cleaning the toner from the photosensitive surface.

  • Patent number: 4933833
Abstract: A measurement and control system for employment with a plurality of significantly spaced process access locations wherein a single cable extends in a loop by these access locations, and both ends of the cable are terminated at a central controller. The cable consists of a solid, conductive, outer housing and four spaced conductors within the housing, the housing being otherwise filled with a dielectric material. Data units are positioned at each access location, and each data unit is configured to supply and receive, or one of the other, discrete data by being coupled to the cable, two of the conductors of the cable furnishing power for the data unit, and the other two providing communications. Certain of the data units employ transducers to measure a single physical state. Outputs from these transducers, in analog form, are serialized, converted to digital data, cross-compared to determine off scaled readings, and the good readings averaged.

  • Patent number: 4932641
Abstract: A variable force exerting clamp assembly having a variable clamping area. A stretchable strap which deforms or "thins" to a smaller width in response to stretching is provided with a first work-engaging clamp secured to one end thereof and a second movable clamp which is slidable between the ends of the strap. The clamps are disposed for engaging a workpiece or workpieces between each other or for securing a pair of members together, and tension is applied until the strap is stretched to exert the desired force on the members, whereby, upon release of the tensional force, the strap tends to assume its original configuration, and the second clamp exerts a clamping force on the strap responsive to the strap expanding to its original width.

  • Patent number: 4923116
Abstract: A bath water control system in which the bath water is selectively supplied a bath or shower outlets, and the water supply is as to both temperature and period of supply. These parameters may be prestored in a memory along with discrete start times whereby a programmed bath will be automatically available at a discrete time or times in the future. As a means of ensuring that water is not accumulated in the tub prior to water temperature rising to a selected value, the tub drain is closed only after input bath water reaches a selected temperature. Further, means are provided for turning off water in the event that water in excess of a selected value appears. Still further, the temperature of water is indicated both digitally and aurally.

  • Patent number: 4911342
Abstract: A pleating machine having a frame supporting two pairs of rollers formed with intermeshing teeth. Each pair is comprised of upper and lower intermeshing rollers, with a roller of the first pair intermeshing with a roller of the second pair to form a continuous train of gears. Each roller is provided with registering circumferential grooves along the length thereof. A needle having a pointed tip end and an eye end is disposed in "floating" relation in the machine with its pointed end positioned between the first pair of rollers (entrance rollers) and with its eye end extending just beyond the second pair of rollers. The needle is provided with a predetermined length which extends from the pointed tip to the eye end of the needle which is disposed proximate an arc prescribed by rotation of a point on the outer periphery of the lower of the second set (exit) of rollers.

  • Patent number: 4888881
Abstract: A direct measuring device for the direct and exact measurement of the height of a surveying instrument above a ground point. The direct measurement device includes a frame having an upstanding portion and a pair of arms substantially normally extending therefrom. The upper arm has an adapter thereon which is similar to the base or centering flange of the theodolite or other surveying instrument to be used in the surveying operation. The adapter is positioned in an instrument support (tribrach) carried on the tripod in a manner similar to that which the base or centering flange of a surveying instrument is mounted in the tribrach, and a measuring tape secured to the lower arm of the frame measures the distance to the ground from the device. The surveying instrument is then positioned on the tripod in the place of the direct measurement device.

  • Patent number: 4885718
Abstract: A communications extension link for use between a computer and a keyboard and display unit has at the computer site a first interface circuit connected to it and adjacent to the keyboard and display unit a second interface circuit connected to it. The two interface circuits may then be spaced serveral hundred feet by an extension cable. The first interface circuit includes capacitors connected between keyboard data and clock lines and a positive supply terminal, and buffer amplifiers are placed in the signal lines relating to the display unit. The second interface circuit employs discrete resistors between clock and data lines and the positive supply terminal, and between the vertical sync line and logic ground. In addition, capacitance is added between the positive supply terminal and logic ground.
