  • Patent number: 8137592
Abstract: A method of incorporating an additive into a polymer composition includes the step of melt blending a polymer with a dispersion comprising a liquid carrier, an unmodified clay, and an additive. Using the dispersion rather than a polymer-based additive masterbatch saves energy. Like a polymer-based masterbatch, the dispersion provides the additive in a diluted form and therefore preserves the masterbatch's advantages of providing more uniform distribution additive in the plastic and avoiding direct handling of additives in the final compounding step. The dispersion is also described.

  • Patent number: 8137431
Abstract: The invention relates to a fertilizer granule comprising both a nitrate and urea as the main nitrogen source. A mineral added during production is an important component in the composition, said mineral stabilizing these otherwise poorly compatible nitrogen compounds. A high nitrogen content is thus attained with ammonium nitrate concentrations falling below maximum limit values set by international legislation and classification, while at the same time the explosion risk particularly associated with the use of ammonium nitrate is avoided. The invention is also directed to a process for the production of the fertilizer granule of the above type, said process resulting in a fertilizer granule with excellent resistance properties and a high nitrogen content, wherein said granule may be coated by methods typical in the art, if desired.

  • Patent number: 8137058
Abstract: A machine includes a static member and a moving member. The moving member includes a central hub and a moving component. The moving component includes a first end portion fixedly connected to the central hub, a second end portion and an intermediate portion. The second end portion of the moving member is spaced from the static member so as to form a gap. A transmitting element is mounted to one of the static member and the moving member. The transmitting element emits an acoustic wave having a predetermined frequency across the gap. A receiving element is mounted to the other of the static member and the moving member. The receiving element receives the acoustic wave from the transmitting element. The machine further includes a controller that determines a clearance distance extending between the moving member and the static member based on the acoustic wave passing across the gap.

  • Patent number: 8133985
Abstract: The present invention relates to a peptide nucleic acid (PNA) conjugated with multi-amine linkers, and a method to prepare the same and utilization thereof. More specifically, the method is characterized by conjugating monomers having multi-amine functionality sequentially at a PNA terminal, and effectively immobilizing the PNA conjugated with multi-amine linkers on a solid surface. A PNA array prepared using the PNA conjugated with multi-amine linkers exhibits improved sensitivity and specificity of signals for detecting target nucleic acids as compared to a PNA array using PNA probes having only one amine group. The PNA conjugated with multi-amine linkers can be utilized in nucleic acid detecting devices or kits for gene diagnosis such as PNA microarrays, PNA chips, PNA field-effect transistors and impedance detectors.
