Abstract: Amino(oligo)thiophene dyes useful for studying the electrophysiology of organelles, cells, and tissues are described. Compared to previously known dyes, the amino(oligo)thiophene dyes exhibit improved (faster) response to membrane potential changes, as well as the ability to be excited by 1064 nanometer femtosecond pulses. Methods of preparing the amino( oligo )thiophene dyes are also described.

Abstract: Cloud point monitoring systems for determining a cloud point of diesel fuel are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a cloud point monitoring system determines a cloud point temperature value utilizing signals indicating a viscosity level of diesel fuel and a temperature of the diesel fuel.

Abstract: Control systems and a method for controlling a load point of a gas turbine engine are provided. A control system includes a controller that receives a temperature signal and a pressure signal associated with exhaust gases from the gas turbine engine. The controller is further configured to generate the fuel control signal. The controller is further configured to generate an actuator control signal such that flow restriction member is moved from the first operational position to the second operational position to restrict the flow path such that the exhaust gases have a temperature level within a desired turndown temperature range, the pressure level in the exhaust gases is less than a threshold pressure level, and the load point of the gas turbine engine is adjusted to toward a target load point.

Exemplary embodiments include a method for dynamic categorized event cool-off for CIM indications for a SMIS client having a handler for CIM indications, the method including categorizing incoming CIM Indications into the SMIS client, the categorization being based on the handler for the CIM indications, identifying a default delay of CIM indications handling during SMIS client operation in an absence of an indications storm, detecting the presence of an indications storm in the SMIS client, generating an alert when the indications storm is detected, increasing the default delay of CIM indications handling during the indications storm, and returning the default delay of CIM indications handling to EventCoolOffPeriod.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a chip package is provided. The chip package includes a laminate, a chip and conductive elements interposed between the chip and the laminate by which signals are transmitted among the chip and the laminate. The method includes dispensing a first underfill in a space defined between opposing faces of the chip and the laminate and dispensing a second underfill at least at a portion of an edge of the chip, the second underfill including a high aspect ratio material.

Abstract: An operating circuit for at least one light-emitting diode (LED) incorporates a switched-mode regulator circuit to which a DC voltage is fed and which provides a supply voltage for the at least one light-emitting diode (LED) by means of a coil (L1) and a switch (S1) clocked by a control unit (SR). When the switch (S1) is on, energy is built up in the coil (L1), which is discharged through the at least one light-emitting diode (LED) when the switch (S1) is off. The control unit (SR) determines the time period between the switch (S1) switching off and subsequently switching on depending on the voltage across the at least one light-emitting diode (LED) and a temporally constant characteristic parameter of the coil (L1).

Abstract: A liquid crystal display (“LCD”) panel includes a touch spacer formed in a first substrate, a common electrode formed to cover the touch spacer, a first touch conductive line formed in a first direction in a second substrate opposite to the first substrate, a second touch conductive line formed in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first touch conductive line, and first and second contact electrodes respectively electrically connected to the first and second touch conductive lines and portions of the first and second contact electrodes formed at a same height, wherein the portions of the first and second contact electrodes contact the common electrode by the touch spacer in a contact position. A method for manufacturing the LCD panel is also provided.

Abstract: An engine driven generator (17) is provided with first and second stage fans (41,42) at one end thereof. The two-stage fan system draws in ambient air and forces it through the generator windings (38) and rotor-stator air gap (37,39) for the purpose of improving generator cooling. Stationary guide vanes (49) are disposed between the two fans (41,42) for the purpose of de-swirling the flow therebetween. The fans are of the centrifugal type and are preferably backward curved.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a rapid annealing method in a mixed structure composed of a heat treatment-requiring material, dielectric layer and conductive layer, comprising that during rapid annealing on a predetermined part of the heat treatment-requiring material, by instantaneously generated intense heat due to Joule heating by application of an electric field to the conductive layer, the potential difference between the heat treatment-requiring material and the conductive layer is set lower than the dielectric break-down voltage of the dielectric layer, thereby preventing generation of arc by dielectric breakdown of the dielectric layer during the annealing.

An article of architectural lumber includes a substrate (e.g., wood, fiberboard, paper, or the like) and a coating disposed thereon, the coating being a dicyclopentadiene modified oil and an oleoresinous component having a high solids content mixed therewith. The oleoresinous component has a high solids content and is free of VOC. A method of coating a building material includes the steps of preparing a composition of dicyclopentadiene modified linseed oil and an oleoresinous component having a high solids content that is free of VOC, applying the composition to the building material, and allowing the composition to dry into a hardened film on the building material.

Abstract: A method of forming a strained, semiconductor-on-insulator substrate includes forming a second semiconductor layer on a first semiconductor substrate. The second semiconductor is lattice matched to the first semiconductor substrate such that the second semiconductor layer is subjected to a first directional stress. An active device semiconductor layer is formed over the second semiconductor layer such that the active device semiconductor layer is initially in a relaxed state. One or more trench isolation structures are formed through the active device layer and through the second semiconductor layer so as to relax the second semiconductor layer below the active device layer and impart a second directional stress on the active device layer opposite the first directional stress.
