Patent number: 8340347Abstract: This invention provides a technique of preventing determination of image alteration when digital image data has undergone, e.g., rotation without any substantial change in contents. To do this, an area separation processing unit separates image data into areas. For each of the separated areas, an area feature value calculator calculates an area feature value independent of the coordinate information of the image. An area order sorter sorts the separated areas in accordance with the calculated area feature values. A validation data generation processing unit generates validation data based on the sort result.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2009Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Junichi Hayashi, Yoshiharu Imamoto, Nobuhiro Tagashira, Kazuya Kishi, Yasuhiro Nakamoto, Kazuomi Oishi

Patent number: 8335400Abstract: Markers are laid out to express a predetermined code string by a plurality of continuous markers. The markers which form a marker string include at least two types of markers having different features which can be identified by image processing. Markers detected in the captured image are converted into numerical information, and are collated based on the numerical information and the predetermined code string. Using information associated with the markers, the coordinate information of each collated marker is calculated. The position and orientation of an image capturing device are calculated using the coordinate information. With a simple arrangement, the position and orientation of an image capturing device can be calculated.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2007Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kazuhiko Kobayashi

Patent number: 8324703Abstract: An in situ approach toward connecting and electrically contacting vertically aligned nanowire arrays using conductive nanoparticles is provided. The utility of the approach is demonstrated by development of a gas sensing device employing the nanowire assembly. Well-aligned, single-crystalline zinc oxide nanowires were grown through a direct thermal evaporation process at 550° C. on gold catalyst layers. Electrical contact to the top of the nanowire array was established by creating a contiguous nanoparticle film through electrostatic attachment of conductive gold nanoparticles exclusively onto the tips of nanowires. A gas sensing device was constructed using such an arrangement and the nanowire assembly was found to be sensitive to both reducing (methanol) and oxidizing (nitrous oxides) gases. This assembly approach is amenable to any nanowire array for which a top contact electrode is needed.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2008Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignees: University of Maryland, The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of CommerceInventors: Prahalad Parthangal, Michael R.
