Abstract: Provided is a container body including a flexible portion made of a rubber-like elastic material and an annular connection portion made of a hard material in the shape of a substantially flat plate and having an upper surface to which the flexible portion is firmly fixed and a lower surface to which the lid body is firmly fixed. The flexible portion is provided, on a firm fixation region thereof that is firmly fixed to the annular connection portion, with a collar joint portion protruding widely in the direction of a plane of the annular connection portion. Therefore, the container body and the lid body are firmly coupled to each other, and the viscous fluid-filled damper can be reduced in height.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a Variovorax sp. which produces an acylase having an asymmetric hydrolysis activity on an N-acetyl ?-amino acid to selectively produce an R-?-amino acid, and a Burkholderia sp. which produces both an acylase having an asymmetric hydrolysis activity on an N-acetyl ?-amino acid to selectively produce an S-?-amino acid and an acylase having an asymmetric hydrolysis activity of an N-acetyl ?-amino acid to selectively produce an R-?-amino acid, and a process for the selective production of an S-, or R-?-amino acid using the above strains.
Abstract: A microorganism is provided which has an ability to produce an L-amino acid such as L-lysine, L-tryptophan, L-phenylalanine, L-valine, L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-serine, and has been modified to increase the activity of pyruvate synthase or pyruvate:NADP+ oxidoreductase. This microorganism is cultured in a medium containing ethanol or an aliphatic acid as the carbon source to produce and accumulate the L-amino acid in the medium or cells, and the L-amino acid is collected from the medium or the cells.
Abstract: The present invention provides a glutamine-containing composition which functions to increase blood flow. Glutamine is present in the composition in an amount of 25 mg/kg body weight to 150 mg/kg body weight. By administering the composition to a subject in need thereof, the blood flow in the capillary vessels can be efficiently increased, while inhibiting any side effects such as low blood pressure. The present invention also provides food or feed containing the composition for increasing blood flow.
Abstract: The present invention provides a pushbutton switch cover sheet formed by using a thin metal plate, in which damage or deformation, such as bending or denting, of the thin metal plate is prevented, thereby making it possible to continuously maintain a satisfactory design. The pushbutton switch cover sheet comprising: a plurality of display portions; a plurality of depressing-operation portions for effecting key input on the display portions, respectively; a base sheet formed of a rubber-like elastic material; and a thin metal plate provided on the base sheet, wherein a reinforcing member formed of a polymeric material is provided for each depressing-operation portion so as to be adjacent to the thin metal plate in a direction of a thickness of the thin metal plate.
Abstract: A combustor arrangement for a gas turbine engine (31) has a split line (42) and a plurality of burners (20,37) arranged in an annular ring (40). The burners (46) of the combustor on either side of the split line (42) have a separation distance of at least two times the average separation distance between burners (48) distant from the split line (42).

Abstract: Helical winding is reliably carried out in a plurality of patterns at different angles in a short period of time. A filament winding apparatus for winding fiber bundles onto the surface of a mandrel includes a helical winding head for use in helical winding of the fiber bundles onto the mandrel. The helical winding head includes at least two guide arrays, each including a plurality of guide portions disposed along a circumferential direction of the mandrel, and a repositioning mechanism capable of repositioning the guide portions by rotating each guide array relative to another.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing an L-amino acid using a bacterium of the Enterobacteriaceae family, particularly a bacterium belonging to genus Escherichia or Pantoea, which has been modified to have glycerol kinase in which feedback inhibition by fructose-1,6-bisphosphate is desensitized, thereby having enhanced ability to utilize glycerol.
Abstract: An object of the present invention is, in an optical modulator, to increase the production yield by enhancing the patterning accuracy of the electrodes, as well as to reduce the electrode loss by increasing the thickness of the electrodes. An optical modulator has a substrate 5 made of an electro-optical material; a modulation electrode 2A, 3A, 2B provided on the substrate 5; and an optical waveguide 1c provided on the substrate 5. Light propagating through the optical waveguide 1c is modulated by applying a modulation voltage to the modulation electrode.
