  • Patent number: 6953834
Abstract: The invention provides human polynucleotide sequences that encode transcription factor polypeptides that are termed ALF and SALF, and an alternative C-terminal sequence. The invention includes ALF, SALF and alternative C-terminus polypeptides, peptides, fusion proteins, expression vectors, agonists, antagonists, host cells that overexpress these polypeptides, including transgenic animals, and recombinant knock-out animals that cannot express the relevant RNAs and polypeptides. The invention also provides methods for the detection, diagnosis, screening, and monitoring disorders related to inappropriate expression, production, or activity of ALF and SALF, and provides methods to increase or decrease gene expression with respect to treating disorders related to inappropriate or ineffectual patterns of gene expression.

  • Patent number: 6922677
Abstract: A unitary investment instrument combining a swap and a structured note, both of which provide multiple utilization of capital. The unitary instrument has three performance components. An investor invests in the issuer the principal amount of the structured note component. The structured note provides its own portfolio exposures as well as serving as collateral for the base benchmark portfolio swap (alternatively, the base benchmark portfolio exposure can be acquired through a separate collateral deposit on the investor's own portfolio). The first component is a benchmark portfolio, which in one preferred embodiment is a financial or stock index such as the S&P 500 Stock Index. The second component is an incremental benchmark portfolio keyed to the same benchmark index and the third component is keyed to a passive commodity index, having long and short positions, which in one preferred embodiment is the Mount Lucas Management Commodity Index.

  • Patent number: 6912451
Abstract: The present invention provides a control system for a redundant prime mover system to drive a machine having an engine coupled to the machine, and a motor/generator coupled to the machine and an electrical network connection. The controller operates the engine and the motor/generator in three or four operating modes. The first operating mode drives the machine with the engine. The second operating mode drives the machine with the motor/generator. The third operating mode drives the machine and the motor/generator with the engine such that the motor/generator generates electricity for delivery to the electrical network connection. Alternatively, the third operating mode drives the machine with both the engine and the motor/generator. This alternate operating mode can also be included as a fourth operating mode.

  • Patent number: 6890604
Abstract: A method of applying a powder coating to a medium density fiberboard (MDF) or particleboard door includes attaching a first hanger to the door, providing an electrical source to the door through the first hanger, and conveying the door, via the first hanger, into a coating booth. The door is then powder-coated in the coating booth while being electrostatically charged. The powder-coated door is then cured to cause the powder to adhere to the door.

  • Patent number: 6854406
Abstract: An autonomous surface watercraft is disclosed. The watercraft may include a control module, a communications module, a power management module, a differential thrust propulsion system, and a navigation module. One or more sensors may be provided internal to the watercraft and/or coupled to a sensor module coupling point on the watercraft. An operator may provide the watercraft with mission parameters such as but not limited to station point(s), a sensing location or area, a sensing duration, and/or a sensing time. The watercraft may determine a course heading to reach a station point or sensing area. The control module may control the propulsion system to reach the station point and for station keeping. The watercraft may gather sensor data. The sensor data may be analyzed, filtered, stored in memory and/or transmitted to a control center. The control center may receive real-time data from a plurality of such watercraft.

  • Patent number: 6856971
Abstract: A unitary investment instrument that may be either a swap or a note instrument, both of which provide multiple utilization of capital. The unitary instrument has two performance components. An investor must either deposit collateral with the issuer (in the case of the swap instrument) or invest in the issuer the principal amount of the investment (in the case of the note instrument). The first component is a base portfolio, which is preferably the S&P 500 Stock Index. The second component is keyed to a passive commodity index, having long and short positions, which is preferably the Mount Lucas Management Commodity Index. The instruments' commodity index exposure is established as the product of a leverage factor and the amount of the base portfolio exposure; thereafter this exposure may be the product of (1) a leverage factor and/or (2) the change in value of the investment or either component thereof.

  • Patent number: 6765309
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and building for generating electricity using wind power. The invention includes an enclosure, a wind turbine/generator and two or more air ducts. The enclosure, which is to be mounted within or in close proximity to a building, has an air intake and an air exhaust has an air intake and an air exhaust. The wind turbine/generator generates electricity from the wind received form the air intake and is disposed within the enclosure between the air intake and the air exhaust. Each air duct has a first end connected to an air duct intake device and second end connected to the enclosure air intake.

  • Patent number: 6756948
Abstract: A left and right hemisphere independently adjustable azimuth antenna with a new method of electrically floating reflector device when used with the cooperating antenna array geometry, yields an modified directed radiated beam which can be actuated by means of a simple mechanical mechanism. The adjustment in the azimuth pattern is accomplished by means of moving the electrically floating reflector device in an arc around a line parallel to the axis of the antenna.
