Abstract: Continuous method of manufacturing coil type slide fasteners by forming synthetic monofilaments into a pair of uncured fastener element coils. The fastener coils are then intermeshed in coupled relation and sewn onto the adjacent edges of a pair of uncured knit tapes. The coil, sewing thread and knit tapes are each composed of the same thermosetting resin. The fastener chain is advanced at uniform tension and velocity through a pressing stage and viscous dye bath containing a dispersion type thermosoling dye. The advancing chain is then vacuumed to provide uniform deposition of the dye on the tape and coil. The chain is then dried and led through a heating zone maintained at a temperature which simultaneously fixes the dyestuffs and cures or thermosets the coil and knit tapes. Thereafter, the moving chain is washed and calendered while being maintained under tension. The continuous zipper chain is then cut to length and supplied with a slider and end stops.

Abstract: An apparatus for severing predetermined lengths from a cigarette or cigar comprises a tubular passage which receives the cigarette or cigar to be cut, and a manually actuated blade positioned transverse to the longitudinal axis of the tubular passage and receivable therewithin for cutting the cigarette or cigar. The length of the cigarette or cigar receivable within the passage and severable by the blade may be varied by selectively positioning an adjustable end wall of the tubular passage.

Abstract: A cooking utensil in the form of a pan having upstanding walls and a lid or cover supportable by the upper edges of the walls and which is dimensioned to fit into the interior of the pan for use as a food scoop or spatula. In its preferred embodiment, the cover is generally planar and perforated enabling its use as a sieve for the draining of cooking fluids from food supported thereon and as a porous cover which promotes condensation of cooking vapors for basting the food being cooked in the pan.

Abstract: A handgun which combines the reliability of a revolver and the convenience of an automatic wherein said handgun is provided with a barrel which moves forwardly in response to the firing of a cartridge. Said forward movement and the reverse thereof being responsible for the indexing of a cylinder-like cartridge carrier by means of indexing levers operatively connected between said barrel and said cartridge carrier and the cocking of the lockwork of the handgun.

Abstract: An improved breaker point assembly of the type including a stationary electrical contact and a pivotal breaker arm having a movable contact carried thereby. An integral breaker spring is provided for urging said contacts into engagement and for providing electrical interconnection between the movable contact, the condenser and ignition coil. One end of the integral spring is connected to the breaker arm and the other end has an inturned clamp portion to electrically engage the bared ends of lead wires and mechanically grip the insulation of the lead wires which are fitted through a hole in the inturned end portion of the breaker spring whereby the spring serves as an electrical and mechanical connector for the lead wires.

Abstract: A spring actuated short billiard cue stick having a plunger shaft in the bore of a handle member, the shaft being slotted longitudinally in the bore with spaced enlargements therealong, a manually releasable latch member in the form of a rod associated with the slot having a reduced stem passing transversely therethrough and fitted with an enlarged catch element receivable in any of the slot enlargements to yieldably hold the shaft in a plurality of retracted positions, the reduced stem being registrable with the bore diameter and enabling spring actuated movement of the stick shaft.

Abstract: A shock resistant loudspeaker enclosure includes a resilient shell formed with an opening therein and a resilient, shock resistant bracket secured to the shell about the periphery of the opening. A loudspeaker mounting board or baffle is secured to the shock resistant bracket through a rigid frame thereby closing the shell opening.

Abstract: Wheelchair lift for a van-type vehicle having a pivotable frame which may be swung from within to without the vehicle, a slide frame telescopically movable relative to the swing frame and a wheelchair supporting platform carried at the lower end of the slide frame. The platform is pivotable to and from a horizontal position in an upright folded position, generally coplanar with the swing frame so that the entire assembly is disposed within the vehicle. A hydraulic ram having a power stroke in one direction and a return stroke in the opposite direction provides means for taking up cables disposed on opposite sides of the swing frame and is operatively connected to both the side frame and the platform. The power stroke of the ram causes the slide and the platform carried thereby to be raised from the ground level to the floor level of the vehicle for transfer of a wheelchair to and from the platform of the vehicle.

Abstract: A holder for the storage, handling, and filing of sound recording magnetic tape cassettes which is an integral tray-shaped frame, includes a support beam disposed along its upper edge and an index bar extends upwardly of the beam and serves as a handle for the holder. A rectangular base or back panel depends from the lower edge of the support beam and side walls extend outwardly of the marginal edges of the base panel. Spaced posts extend upwardly of the base panel and are adapted to engage and prevent rotation of the reels of said cassette. A resilient retaining flange or tab extends from one of the side walls in spaced parallel relationship to the base panel for releasably gripping a cassette. The base panel is provided with an aperture disposed opposite the retainer tab to accommodate therein a raised land portion of the tape cassette.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for patching or seaming thermoplastic mesh fabrics, such as used in the papermaking industry by means of an ultrasonic welding tool. The tool is provided with one or more tips having raised surface portions or projections adapted for contacting the plastic mesh at a plurality of spaced points whereby ultrasonic welding is accomplished without substantial disruption or dimunition of the generally uniform porosity inherent to the mesh fabric. The method modifications involve the use of templates for guiding the positioning and movement of the ultrasonic welding tips for both butt seaming and overlap seaming of the opposed edges of thermoplastic mesh fabric. In the butt seaming technique, the outermost weft filaments of the opposed edges of the plastic fabric are replaced by one heat stabilized filament and the picket ends of the fabric are interdigitated about this stable filament preparatory to the welding step.

Abstract: Key Case Head comprising a first generally cylindrically-shaped outer member having slot means in communication with offset openings, the offset openings being removed from either end of said slot means, the slot means being adapted to retain a key hook and the offset openings being adapted to permit a key hook to pass therethrough, and a second member disposed within the first member, the second member having slot means in alignment with the first member slot means and having recesses in communication therewith but offset therefrom, the second member being rotatably movable to selectively align the second member recesses with the first member openings to permit withdrawal or entrance of a key hook.

Abstract: A key case head including an inner member and an outer member, the inner and outer members being adapted to cooperate to selectively retain and release key hooks, the inner member having attached thereto an actuator for moving the inner member relative to the outer member, the actuator and the outer member having complemental projections and recesses thereon for locking the inner member within the outer member.

Abstract: Swing mechanism for a backhoe, crane or other earthmoving apparatus which includes a main frame, a rotatable turret supported by the frame, the drive mechanism includes a pair of hydraulic rams supported by the frame in partially coextensive lateral relationship. The drive strokes of said rams are generally in opposite directions. Associated with each ram, the drive mechanism includes a pivotable lever and an elongate flexible member connected to generally opposite points on the turret to rotate the turret in opposite direction. The flexible members extend from the pivotable levers in generally opposite directions to points of engagement with an arcuate member and then extend at least partially about the circumference of the arcuate member to their point of connection to the turret.

Abstract: A method of preparing the surface of a damaged braze for rebrazing whereby the brazed article or part is cleaned, including the removal of excess braze, electrolessly pre-plated with a metal which is a constituent of the braze being repaired so as to penetrate into the damaged area of the braze and electrolytically plated with a metal which is a constituent of the braze being repaired, wherein said plating acts as a carrier and wetting agent for the braze to be used in the rebrazing operation.

Abstract: Method of producing porous synthetic plastic compositions by blending into a polymer at least about 45 volume percent of a plastic-insoluble, water soluble particulate material and a liquid at processing temperatures, capable of forming channels between the solid particles. The blend is then formed into any desired product such as by calendering, extruding or molding and thereafter the water soluble particulate matter and channel forming liquid are leached with water from the product to form a porous plastic.

Abstract: Light diffuser and illuminating ceiling display fixture for use in combination with a suspended ceiling which is in the form of an integral body of translucent, synthetic plastic sheet material. The integral body is hollow, has an open top and includes an outwardly extending annular rim. The outer dimension of the rim is approximately the same as the distance between upright web portions of adjacent, parallel ceiling title support bars. The rim is severable for supportive engagement with support members of varying spacing and the translucent body is resiliently flexible, enabling substantial deformation for fitting the fixture into an opening defined by a rectangular arrangement of ceiling support bars.

Abstract: A card filing device for storing and viewing card carrying envelopes wherein slotted card carrying envelopes are pivotally mounted in the device so that they are movable from a horizontal storage position to a vertical viewing position and only removable from said container by pivoting the same to a position approximately midway between said storage and viewing positions.

Abstract: Fluid spray for generating rectangular coverage area which includes a tubular conduit or header carrying a fluid under pressure and a pair of spaced nozzles. Each nozzle includes a bore which receives liquid from the header and conducts it toward a concavely curved end wall. Each nozzle has a circumferentially extending orifice adjacent the end wall which faces toward an identical orifice of the other nozzle so that the spray from one nozzle impinges upon the spray from the other nozzle.
