    Abstract: Drill bit for drilling holes of different diameters which has a series of cylindrical outer surfaces of increasing diameter from the outer to the inner end of the drill bit. A beveled conical surface interconnects each adjacent pair of cylindrical surfaces. At least two flutes are machined at two circumferentially spaced locations to provide two cutting edges on each diameter of the drill. At each cutting edge the cylindrical surfaces are relieved radially and the conical surface is relieved axially over an acute circumferential angle. The major peripheral portions of the cylindrical and conical surfaces for each diameter are respectively concentric to the axis of the drill and of zero pitch angle.

    Abstract: Easel type ring binder includes a generally U-shaped support member with parallel leg portions slidably fitted into tubular sheaths disposed along the opposite side edges of the ring mechanism of the binder. Each leg of the support member is hinged at corresponding points intermediate its opposite ends for pivotable movement of the outer end of the support member to a binder support position in which the outer portion of the support member is disposed at an acute interior angle relative to the inner portion thereof. The sheaths are slotted to provide stops and the legs include protections engageable with the stops to limit the withdrawal of the legs from within said sheaths.

    Abstract: Differential mounting for railroad wheels includes an axle with a wheel fitted on one end to rotate with the axle and a second wheel carried adjacent the opposite end of the axle and mounted to rotate relative to the axle. The axle has a raised wheel seat with an axial length approximately the same as the hub of the second wheel which is generally rectangular in cross-section. Fillets define the inboard and outboard ends of the raised wheel seat and a steel sleeve is fitted over the raised wheel seat and includes an annular flange portion shaped to engage the outboard axle fillet. A collar carried within the sleeve engages the inboard fillet. Pressure plates are disposed on the inboard and outboard ends of the sleeve and include opposed stainless steel thrust bearing surfaces contiguous to the annular side faces of the wheel hub which are surfaced with a TEFLON composite, bearing material bonded thereto.

    Abstract: A checkbook folder of integral three-ply construction includes a transverse hinge separating front and back cover panels. The folder is formed by an outer, transparent, rectangular sheet and two smaller, rectangular, inner sheets of synthetic plastic material each being superimposed in edge-to-edge relation with opposite edge portions of the outer sheet and the sheets are bonded together along their peripheral edges. Each cover panel includes a pocket having an opening facing toward the hinge of the folder. An opaque, unitary fibrous insert, imprinted on at least its outer surface, is disposed within the pockets and includes a fold line which corresponds to the transverse hinge.

    Abstract: A loose leaf presentation folder which has an outer cover with front and rear panels pivotable about a hinge line and an inner binder strip, which may either be a discrete component or part of the cover, includes a pair of narrow panels pivotable about a fold line. If discrete, the strip is affixed within the outer cover with its fold line superimposed on the hinge line of the cover. The opposed outer edge portions of the binder strip are provided with a plurality of transversely-spaced, metallic tabs. The binder strip and the tabs, disposed along one edge thereof, are each provided with a hole therethrough and along the other edge of the binder strip, each of the tabs includes elongated prongs which are bendable to fit through the hole in the opposite edge of the binder strip.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for operating a band saw blade which is disposed in a continuous loop about a pair of spaced wheels in a band saw housing. One of the wheels is driven to impart longitudinal cutting movement to the blade. The blade is alternately tilted from a first to a second extreme cutting angle relative to the work. The tilting movement of the blade has a predetermined cycle so that for a major portion of each cycle, the blade dwells at its extreme angles of tilt relative to the work. One apparatus for carrying out this method is an eccentric drive which oscillates the entire housing of the band saw in the predetermined cycle. Another apparatus is a mechanism which alternately deflects the cutting span of the blade to change its angular orientation relative to the work piece in the predetermined cycle.

    Abstract: An improved high temperature furnace is disclosed for consuming various fuels and organic waste materials while generating usable energy. The furnace has a high pressure aeration system in its combustion chamber to increase combustion efficiency. One set of obliquely oriented nozzles disposed at the periphery of the combustion chamber injects high velocity, heated air into the furnace and an opposed set of nozzles also injects high velocity, heated air tangentially from the adjacent center of the chamber. Heated, high velocity air from all the air nozzles is directed generally in the same tangential direction creating a swirling action or turbulence which accelerates the break up of the waste to increase the completeness of the combustion and retains the fuel in suspension within the furnace until combustion is essentially completed. The centrifugal force created by this swirling action impels the hot ash toward the outer chamber wall to minimize its upward escape through the incinerator flue.

    Abstract: An expandable, multi-pocket envelope is disclosed which is formed by die-cutting, scoring and folding a unitary blank. The blank is formed from a resiliently flexible sheet material and includes a front, back and two intermediate panels. The panels are all foldable in superposed relation about spaced, parallel crease lines. The outer edge of one intermediate panel is cut to include an index tab. A slot is provided between the opposed adjacent edges of the front panel and the other intermediate panel and each of these opposed edges is cut to include an index tab. Inwardly foldable glue bearing panels are provided along the side edge portions of said blank and a closure flap is disposed on the outer end edge of the back panel.

    Abstract: An electronic, breakerless ignition system with a grounded cut-off switch has a transformer coil and an electronic ignition circuit in a unitary housing fitted on the core. In an inductive embodiment of the system, a trigger coil is in circuit with the base of a Darlington transistor to control the operation of the transistor in response to flux generated voltage in the trigger coil. The primary winding of the transformer coil has one ground connection and the trigger coil is connected to an entirely separate ground terminal. Each of the terminals is fastened at one end to spaced points on the core. In a capacitor discharge ignition embodiment, one end of the primary winding is connected to a ground terminal and a coil for charging the capacitor is connected at one end to a separate ground terminal.

    Abstract: Implement for snow removal includes a snow moving blade and a tubular handle of generally rectangular configuration with a cross-bar portion for manipulation of the implement. A tubular fulcrum member, of generally rectangular configuration, is pivotably carried on the back surface of the blade for pivotable movement from a retracted position generally coplanar with the handle to an angular position in which the member serves as a fulcrum. With the pivotable member disposed as a fulcrum, the implement becomes a lever for tossing snow accumulated against the front face of the blade when the implement is pushed in plow-like manner through a snow covered area. An elastic line is fastened at one end to the handle and at its other end to the fulcrum member for returning the member to its retracted position.

    Abstract: Ring mechanism for loose leaf binders, and method of manufacture therefor, which has actuating or booster levers which serve both to open and close the rings. Mating ring segments or portions are affixed at corresponding spaced locations to a pair of metallic rods or rails. The outer ends of the rods of oval cross section include crank arm portions, with flattened tangs at the terminal ends thereof formed during fabrication on a rail of continuous length which is then severed to provide identical rail and ring segment components. The rail and ring components are then assembled in parallel relation within the inturned edge channels of a spring metal cover plate or case of arcuate cross section which is tensioned to hold the ring segments in closed relation. Each of the booster levers is slotted to engage opposite surfaces of the tangs for pivoting the rods about their longitudinal axes in response to pivotal movement of the booster levers whereby the rings are selectively opened and closed by said levers.

A slot is provided through one of the sidewall portions of the flange for insertion and removal of a resiliently flexible card bearing advertising indicia and the like for display within the frame portion of said tag. The undersurface of said flange adjacent to the slot includes a shoulder adapted to engage the outer edge of said card for retaining the card within the frame. The upper surface of the base panel is of stepped construction having a lower lever disposed adjacent to and communicating with the slot and an upper surface level along the portion of the tag opposite the said slot.

    Abstract: Improved spiral bound notebook and folder construction is disclosed which is formed from an integral blank of flexible sheet material. The folder includes a pair of hingedly interconnected opposed cover panels, a pocket-forming panel hingedly connected along an edge of one of the cover panels and a closure flap hingedly extending from the outer edge of the other cover panel. The pocket forming panel includes one edge portion which is adapted to be folded in superposed relation along one side of the hinge line which interconnects the two cover panels. The folder also includes another flap portion which overlays the other side of the hinge line. The folder is punched to provide wire holes on opposite sides of said hinge line through the cover panels, superposed edge portion of the pocket forming panel and the other flap portion of the folder.

    Abstract: A degassing/brine tank, for use in a chlorine generator system for swimming pools, for providing a fresh saturated brine solution continuously to the electrolytic chlorine generator cells of the system and to minimize escape of chlorine gas circulating in the system. The tank, fabricated of synthetic plastic material, has a plurality of vertically separated chambers, including, at its lower end, coaxially arranged inner and outer brine pick-up chambers. The outer annular chamber, open at its lower end, communicates with a salt and water reservoir within which the tank is immersed and a filtered supply of the brine is received by the inner, lower chamber. A check valve coupled to this inner chamber controls the supply of the brine solution into a helical coil by which the saturated brine solution is furnished to the electrolytic chlorine cells.

    Abstract: Belt buckle for selective use with any of a plurality of variously decorated insert panels. Each of the inserts has an outer surface which includes decorative indicia, such as sports emblems, insignias, initials, etc. The buckle includes an outer portion which is in the form of a channel open at its opposite ends to slidingly receive therein a selected one of said decorative panels. The buckle channel is defined by a recessed outer surface or well portion and upwardly extending side walls and inwardly extending flanges. The insert panels are of generally rigid construction and each includes side edges dimensioned to fit in sliding engagement within the side edge channels of the buckle. The undersurface of the panel insert and the recessed outer surface of the buckle have interengageable detent elements for releasably retaining the insert panel within the channel with the end surfaces of the panel generally aligned with the corresponding end surface of the buckle channel.

    Abstract: Solid state inductive magneto ignition system with antireverse running circuit has a switching transistor connected in circuit with the primary of an ignition coil. A control circuit is connected for cutting "off" the switching transistor to generate ignition pulses. A first by-pass circuit for shunting current from the control circuit includes a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) which is turned "on" by discharge of voltage from a capacitor in combination with a resistor which serves as a time delay to hold the by-pass circuit "on" for the duration of a voltage pulse developed by reverse running of the magneto. A voltage polarity sensing circuit for by-passing the by-pass circuit in response to a forward running pulse includes a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) connected in parallel with the first SCR and a choke coil and a resistor to cause the second SCR to be turned "on" by a first negative pulse developed during forward running of the magneto.

    Abstract: This application discloses a solid state ignition system of the inductive type and includes a trigger coil and an ignition coil having primary and secondary windings disposed on a stator core. A flux generating magnet is carried by a rotor to induce voltages in the coils. A Darlington transistor is disposed in circuit with the primary winding of the ignition coil with the collector emitter electrodes of the transistor connected to carry current generated in the primary of the ignition coil. The base of the transistor is connected to receive current pulses generated in the trigger coil. A parallel capacitor and resistor network is connected in circuit between the trigger coil and the base of the Darlington transistor. The capacitance of said capacitor and the resistance of the resistor are selected so that the retard angle of said system from low-to-high rotational speed of the flux generating magnet remains essentially constant.

    Abstract: Electrically heated hand grips for the handle bars of vehicles such as motorcycles and the like are fabricated with an inner cylindrical sleeve member molded of synthetic plastic material. An electrical resistance heater wire coil is embedded in each sleeve. The inner surface of said the sleeve includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced and axially extending ribs, and the outer surface of said the sleeve includes a longitudinally extending land and groove pattern. The spaces between the ribs on the inner surface and the grooves on the outer surface of the sleeve have radially coextensive, overlapping circumferential portions where the sleeve is of minimum wall thickness. The resistance wire coil is disposed within said the sleeve member such that it is spaced a substantial distance from the inner surface of the ribs and the outer surface of the lands. The diameter of the heater wire is not less than the minimum wall thickness of the sleeve.
