Abstract: A method of determining calciotropic activity of a preparation of algae of the genus Padina pavonica. The algae preparation may be in the form of a powder or an extract. The method consists of culturing human or animal osteoblasts in a culture medium containing calcium ions in a well plate. The preparation is added thereto and non-fixed calcium ions are eliminated in the culture medium. Further, the culture medium is acidified to destroy an extracellular matrix formed by the osteoblasts in the culture medium. Thereafter, filtering of the culture medium is carried out and then a concentration of fixed calcium ions in the osteoblasts is determined and compared with a calibration scale of a known activator of the fixation of calcium or in the presence of an inhibitor of the fixation of calcium or both.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the coupled production of two esters by reacting a mixture of aliphatic alcohols with an aliphatic carboxylic acid and then treating the resulting mixture by distillation. During the distillation process, a side flow that is taken from the distillation column that is connected downstream of the esterification reactor is fed back into said esterification reactor. The pure ester compounds are obtained from the bottom of the distillation columns that are connected downstream of the esterification reactor.

Abstract: A process for preparing sulfonated arylphosphines by reaction of arylphosphines with oleum, wherein, after reaction of the arylphosphines with oleum, the sulfonation mixture is firstly diluted with water, an inert gas stream is then passed through the diluted sulfonation mixture until SO2 is no longer liberated from the diluted sulfonation mixture and the latter is then worked up further in a customary manner and its use.

Abstract: The invention proposes a valve train of an internal combustion engine comprising a cam (1) and a directly driven cam follower (2), such as a roller tappet. This valve train is additionally designed for effecting an internal exhaust gas recirculation at an exhaust valve. A housing (4) of the cam follower (2) comprises two relatively displaceable elements (8, 9). The cam (1) is configured as a high lift cam (1a) for the inner element (8), and at least one low lift cam (1b) configured out-of-phase to the high lift cam (1a) is provided for the outer element (9). When it is desired to carry out an internal exhaust gas recirculation, the two elements (8, 9) are coupled to each other by a coupling element (10), so that, at the end of the base circle of the high lift cam (1a), the low lift cam (1b) protruding thereinto enables a slight post-opening of the gas exchange valve concerned and, thus also, an exhaust gas recirculation.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing polyesters A containing several mid-chain free acid functions by ring-opening polymerisation in the presence of a chain initiator: the benzyl diester of the tartaric acid, the phenyl radical of which is optionally substituted. A: aliphatic based on cyclic esters such as lactides and glycolides.

Abstract: The invention concerns a mounting and anti-rotation device (mounting aid) (1) for roller tappets of a valve train of an internal combustion engine in which gas exchange valves are activated by roller tappets. The roller tappets comprising a substantially cylindrical tappet body are retained in receptions (7, 8) of the mounting aid (1) that is made of plastic. With the help of opposing parallel anti-rotation surfaces that are arranged symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the roller tappet and are disposed on the end of the tappet body that is oriented away from a roller, the roller tappets are guided secured against rotation in the mounting aid during the operation of the internal combustion engine. This is achieved by the fact that the inner profile of the receptions (7, 8) is matched to the outer profile of the roller tappets.
