  • Patent number: 4901653
Abstract: The grate comprises, within its length, two consecutive beds (41, 42) with substantially the same general slope joined together at a point in substantial vertical alignment with the altar wall (7), each bed having its own mobile frame (45d, 46d) with its own control means (45, 46) and its own draft chamber (43, 44) with its own ventilation means. It is therefore possible to adjust the combustion conditions so as to optimize the carbonization mode combustion on the upstream bed (41) and the brasier mode combustion on the downstream bed (42).

  • Patent number: 4898475
Abstract: A heat conducting support having electrodes is located in a chiller block. The electrodes form a temperature sensor, a heater electrode and electrodes for the measuring of the conductivity. The electrodes are covered by an electrically insulating layer, which layer limits or defines, respectively, over a length L a bedewable surface. The chiller block is encased in a heat insulation and its temperature is measured by a second temperature sensor. The cross-sectional area of the heat transfer between chiller block and bedewable surface is substantially smaller than the bedewable surface itself. This makes it now possible that the temperature at the bedewable surface during the forming of the condensate is determined substantially by the temperature of the condensate at the bedewable surface such that increasing formation of condensate a plateau is determinable at the dew point temperature.

  • Patent number: 4895266
Abstract: This relates to a tamper indicating band which is carried by a plastic closure to indicate that the plastic closure has at least in part been unscrewed with respect to an associated container. It is proposed that the tamper indicating band be directly connected to the closure skirt by way of bridges with the bridges having rupturable connections with the skirt and hinge connections with the tamper indicating band. Thus the tamper indicating band may be folded from its as molded state depending from the skirt to a position projecting upwardly into the lower part of the skirt. When the closure is applied to a conventional type of container, the tamper indicating band locks beneath a locking bead on the container neck finish and when the closure is unthreaded, the engagement of the tamper indicating band with the bead will prevent the tamper indicating band to move upwardly with the closure.

  • Patent number: 4892029
Abstract: This relates to a positioning device for positioning a member relative to a work piece. In the preferred use of the positioning device, a sealing head is carried by the positioning device with the sealing head having a first lowered position for picking up a lid for a container and a second lowered position for positioning the lid and thereafter bringing the lid into pressure engagement with an associated container and effect the heat sealing of the lid to the container. The positioning device includes an extensible fluid motor of the piston and cylinder type which is mounted within a guide sleeve for selective vertical positioning by way of a cam follower and cam track and which extensible fluid motor is further selectively extensible so as to further move an associated member carried thereby downwardly and into resilient clamping engagement with the work piece.

  • Patent number: 4892177
Abstract: A friction clutch comprises a first part and a second part. The first part comprises two carrier plates coupled together at a fixed axial spacing by means of spacers. The second part includes a damper plate disposed axially between the two carrier plates. The first part further includes a first friction disc and a second friction disc, of which at least the first includes a support plate which is mounted so as to be axially movable with respect to one of the carrier plates, by virtue of openings formed in the support plate with the spacers passing through these openings. A coupling device is provided, coupling the support plate to the carrier plate with respect to which it is axially movable. The support plate is disposed axially between the two carrier plates. The invention is applicable to sports cars.

  • Patent number: 4892115
Abstract: This relates to a compact control valve assembly which is particularly intended to be mounted for controlling and operating a station of a multiple station machine such as a container closing machine. The compactness of the valve assembly is made possible by forming a required manifold of an L-shaped configuration including a base and an upstanding part. A first control valve is mounted on the rear wall of the upstanding part to control the flow of fluid through the manifold. Other control valves are mounted on the top wall of the base of the manifold and clamped against a front wall of the upstanding part of the manifold for controlling other operations. By making the manifold L-shaped and fitting the other control valves therein, the entire valve assembly is a compact unit.

  • Patent number: 4890758
Abstract: This relates to the construction of a pull tab integrally formed on a closure which is bonded to a container by way of a rupturable bond. Instead of utilizing the conventional pull tab which is normally integrally connected to the closure, the pull tab has been modified so as to provide two or more lines of bond rupturing forces as opposed to the prior art original single line with the two or more lines of bond rupturing forces having a tendency to spread in opposite directions and thereby greatly reducing the force required to initiate a rupture of the bond between the closure and the container. Numerous different types of notches, openings and the like are provided to provide for the separate lines of bond rupturing forces. These notches, openings and the like also function to constrain stray electric current induced into an intermediate metal layer of the closure and pull tab flowing into the pull tab, thereby reducing the power requirement for heating the closure to a bonding temperature.

  • Patent number: 4889247
Abstract: In the blow molding of a container from a preform in a heated blow mold wherein the container has formed as part of the preform a neck portion which remains unoriented, there is a tendency for the neck portion to distort relative to the body so that there is a perpendicularity problem. In accordance with this invention, the problem has been solved by either crystallizing that portion of the preform which remains unoriented in the blow molding of the container so as to both provide a clear line of demarcation between the unoriented and biaxially oriented portion of the container and to increase the glass temperature of the preform portion so as to prevent shrinkage due to conductive heating.
