  • Patent number: 5056383
Abstract: A twist-cap bottle opener having a handle provided with a bottle cap gripping member attached to one end of the handle. The bottle cap gripping member is generally circular shaped spring-like material, one end of which is attached to an end of the handle. The opposite end of the circular shaped spring material remains unattached and thus the diameter of the cap gripping member can be easily varied to accommodate different sizes of bottle caps or jar lids. The inner surface of the cap gripping member, that is the surface that is in contact with the side of the bottle cap, is provided with projections which act to grip the side of the cap. The unattached or free end of the cap gripping member is bent inwardly to further increase the effectiveness of the opening device.

  • Patent number: 5028064
Abstract: A positively steered racing wheelchair is disclosed which includes a frame support on a pair of large wheels and a positively steerable trailing wheel. A seat for the athlete is suspended from a central position of the frame and is configured such that the athlete sits in a very low position to improve stability and to advantageously place the leverage of the athlete's arms with respect to a pair of drive rings situated outboard the large wheels. Positive steering of the may be accomplished in various ways. One embodiment employs a laterally pivotal seat structure with actuating cables connected to the seat back such that pivotal motion of the seat, as the athlete leans into a turn, is communicated to the trailing wheel to effect steering. Another embodiment utilizes actuating cables attached to cuffs around the athlete's biceps such that the natural tendency to twist into a turn can be translated into steering forces.

  • Patent number: 4969857
Abstract: The accessories of a prime mover (such as an engine) are automatically maintained at a more constant speed with varying prime mover speed using a flat belt driving a variable diameter pulley wherein a fixed diameter pulley attached to the variable diameter pulley is used to drive another belt coupled to the accessories. The variable diameter pulley assembly includes a shaft and a pair of pulley sheaves each having a pair of relatively movably guideway disks with belt engaging elements extending between the pulley sheaves. Mutual angular changes between the guideway disks causes a corresponding change in the effective diameter of the pulley assembly. A speed responsive actuator assembly is employed and includes a housing with at least a pair of springs. The actuator assembly is positioned by a balance of forces including the centrifugal force of the belt drive elements, the compression force of the actuator springs, and the forces due to the belt.
