  • Patent number: 4697675
Abstract: A backstop for a reducer having a casing comprises a one-way cylindrical clutch having a plurality of circularly arranged locking elements therein engaged by the periphery a reducer input shaft passing axially therethrough. To achieve a precise concentricity of the reducer shaft and the circularly arranged locking elements so that each element is stressed, the clutch is loosely housed in and loosely keyed to a clutch casing which is in turn firmly attached to a portion of the reducer casing and the one-way clutch and circularly arranged locking elements are then bushing aligned concentric with the reducer input shaft extending axially therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4641061
Abstract: A solid state ballast for starting and operating a plurality of fluorescent lamps comprises a plurality of parallel connected, series LC circuits each coupled by a capacitor to a lamp so that voltage existing across the series capacitors is applied across the lamps and driven by an inverter at a DC power source voltage and at a selected frequency high enough to develop a lamp starting voltage but substantially below their resonant frequency. After starting the resonant frequency of the LC circuits is reduced substantially below the selected frequency by the added capacitive reactances of the coupling capacitors whereby the destructive high voltage at the upper and lower resonances is avoided and the independent selection of the values of L and C and the coupling capacitors to control starting voltage and conduction after starting at the selected frequency is provided.

  • Patent number: 4532841
Abstract: A hood-like saw blade guard for a radial arm saw is mounted for free vertical movement on a support frame detachably connected to the suspended saw blade driving motor housing. The guard extends over the entire saw blade when in its downward position and is contoured on both sides so as to be easily elevated upon contact with a workpiece, one contoured side is closed and offset radially from the saw blade to provide a sawdust chute and permit vertical removal of the guard from the frame. A spreader with an anti-kickback device thereon is mounted for vertical adjustment on the frame and guards the open contoured side, and vertically adjustable hold-down means on the frame variably limits vertical upward movement of the guard so as to hold down a workpiece when ripping.

  • Patent number: 4490988
Abstract: Means for shutting down operation of an enclosed motor compressor unit for air conditioning and heat pump service consists in immersing a pair of spaced electrodes having a potential gradient thereacross in the refrigerant-oil mixture in the unit enclosure and in employing the ion and electron flow across the electrodes resulting from contaminants in the mixture to break the motor energizing circuit through relay means, and in the provision of a normally open fusible switch responsive to close in response to a predetermined high motor temperature and through relay means break the motor energizing circuit. In a simplified modification, the immersed electrodes are directly connected across the power supply leads and cause a fusible link connected in the power supply leads to open and break the motor energizing circuit when sufficient conduction across the electrodes occurs.

  • Patent number: 4452547
Abstract: A speed reducer having a power takeoff sleeve loosely receives therein a shaft to be driven. Concentricity and a driving connection of the shaft and sleeve is effected by a pair of telescoping bushings having tapered interfitting surfaces in each end of the sleeve. The inner bushing of each pair is split and grips the shaft when drawn into the outer bushing by screw threaded means. The outer bushings are concentric with and rotatable in the sleeve ends and keyed therein to preclude axial movement. In a first modification the inner split bushings are keyed to both shaft and sleeve and in a second modification the shaft is keyed directly to the sleeve.
