Abstract: A speed reducer having a power takeoff sleeve loosely receives therein a shaft to be driven. Concentricity and a driving connection of the shaft and sleeve is effected by a pair of telescoping bushings having tapered interfitting surfaces in each end of the sleeve. The inner bushing of each pair is split and grips the shaft when drawn into the outer bushing by screw threaded means. The outer bushings are concentric with and rotatable in the sleeve ends and keyed therein to preclude axial movement. In a first modification the inner split bushings are keyed to both shaft and sleeve and in a second modification the shaft is keyed directly to the sleeve.

Abstract: The free end portions of the cables of a two-wheel type compound bow are extended to the back of the bow over pulleys rotatably mounted on the wheel shafts, the cable ends are fixed in one end of screws movable longitudinally in bores in adjacent anchor members fixed to the back of the bow and nuts threadedly engaged on the screws and bearing against the anchor members move the screws longitudinally when turned. In a modification anchor members on the front side of the bow are connected to the wheel shafts by flexible loops extending over small pulleys on the shafts and the free ends of the cables are mounted for free rotation in hollow screws threadedly engaged and screw threaded through bores in the anchor members.

Abstract: A main hydraulically operated valve body has a valve element therein which is biased closed when inlet pressure is applied to both sides thereof and is moved openward when inlet pressure is variably exhausted from its outlet side through a pilot valve having a body rigidly mounted on a casing enclosing a meter actuated preset mechanism. The pilot valve body has a single valve element therein connected to the preset mechanism for preventing and controlling exhaustion of inlet pressure therethrough and conduit connects the main and pilot valve bodies.

Abstract: A flat support member mounted on and extending above a horizontal worktable has an elongated, inclined slot therein with a rack formed along its upper side, a wheel lying along one side of the member and rolling on a workpiece on the table has a coaxial pinion gear of smaller diameter than the slot width fixed to one face thereof and loosely retained in the slot, horizontal movement of the workpiece in one direction moves the pinion horizontally out of engagement with the rack and causes rotation of wheel and pinion in one direction and movement of the workpiece in a reverse direction moves the pinion horizontally into engagement with the rack and causes rotation of the wheel and pinion in an opposite direction to apply downward pressure of the wheel on the workpiece.

Abstract: A roof-mounted electrostatic air cleaner for connection to an exhaust duct has a sectionalized cabinet with detachably connected, directable inlet and outlet sections and an intermediate precipitator section, a traveling manifold with multiple spray nozzles is arranged to wash the outer surfaces of precipitator cell end plates as well as both surfaces of intermediate collector plates, and a construction and arrangement of large capacity precipitator cells provides for their convenient and safe assembly and removal from the cabinet.

Abstract: A belt driven table saw having a open bottom base below the worktable enclosing saw tilting and elevating mechanism and a driving motor mounted outboard of the base has a sawdust collector bag detachably connected to and closing the bottom of the base for collecting downwardly directed sawdust, a centrifugal blower having a casing fixed to the motor and an impeller therein fixed to the motor shaft withdraws fine sawdust from a hinged saw guard and from the base through flexible conduits and discharges it into a second collector bag attached to the blower outlet, a swinging baffle plate and suitable foam rubber sealing means permits maintaining a subatmospheric pressure in the base.

Abstract: An idler drum mounted for rotation on one end of a swinging arm is arranged to engage opposite sides of a sanding belt and to tension it in opposite directions when the arm is swung oppositely to first and second positions; belt tracking mechanism including spring means acting to tilt the arm laterally in one direction and first and second adjustment screws each positioned and arranged to engage the arm when in one of its first and second positions to adjustably limit the tilting of the arm in the one direction or to adjustably tilt the arm laterally in an opposite direction.

Abstract: A rigid cutout template is attached to the thin wall of a return air duct and suitably positions and supports an electrostatic air cleaner inserted into the duct through a cutout therein defined by the template. A power-pac and control box is secured elsewhere to the duct and includes high voltage power supply means, an air flow responsive switch and means visually indicating the existence of a power supply, the connection therewith of the electrostatic cell, and normal and abnormal current flow through the electrostatic cell.

Abstract: A duplicating carving machine for the home workshop of the kind in which a guiding stylus and router are movable horizontally in straight line perpendicular paths and vertically in an arcuate path. Rigid construction of the machine permits manipulation of the router from a safely remote point and includes means for mounting masters and work pieces having a wide variety of shapes and sizes so as to be conveniently accessible to the stylus and router, means for independently locking the stylus and router against horizontal movement in either direction at any point, means for locking the stylus and router in various angular positions with respect to tangency with their arcuate path of travel, and means for adjusting the spacing of the stylus and router.

Abstract: A baseboard heater for mounting against a wall and spaced from the floor comprises a casing having an open bottom and upper front side which permits the free upward and then forward free flow of air therethrough. An elongated electrical heating element mounted therein adjacent the open bottom thereof is provided with a high temperature cut-off switch. A switch actuator including a sensing tube coextending alongside the heating element is cooled by incoming air to preclude switch actuation but is quickly heated by the heating element to effect cut-off when airflow is blocked.

Abstract: In a first position an endless sander belt extending over spaced drive and idler pulleys has one run extending straight between the pulleys past an intermediate work station and a return run biased laterally outward therefrom by a swinging idler drum mounted on a pivoted arm. In a second position an intermediate portion of the return run is held parallel with and closely adjacent the straight run by the swinging idler drum and a second idler drum rotating on a fixed pivot. Belt tension is maintained in both positions by an over center acting spring.

Abstract: A home workshop wood lathe mounted on a flat bed includes a pair of elongated members having horizontal surfaces which extend along opposite sides of and slightly above the lathe ways and are spaced to permit a tail stock to slide along the ways. Brackets for mounting a template or turned article to be duplicated are adjustable along the elongated members. A tool holder having a long flat base spanning the spaced horizontal surfaces is freely slidable thereon. An upstanding tool post near one end of the long base, a pair of upstanding follower pins spaced longitudinally on opposite sides of and closely adjacent the tool post, and a pair of handles arranged for selective attachment to the base on one side or the other of the tool post adapt the tool holder to axial or face plate turning operations and a conveniently detachable plate overlying the spaced horizontal surfaces provides a continuous surface when face plate turning.

Abstract: A portable work table intended for home use, with or without detachable legs, has a rigid, elongated, rectangular frame and a pair of longitudinally extending members thereon forming a work surface and also functioning to clamp a workpiece therebetween, one member being fixed on the frame and the other member being moved thereon toward and away from the fixed member by a pair of independently operable, longitudinally spaced motion transmission screws; the work table being further provided with conveniently detachable, telescopically adjustable legs, and a compartment in the frame for storage of the detached legs.

Abstract: A pliant hollow screw of thermo plastic material for threaded engagement in a bow handle section to adjustably space an arrow from the adjacent side of the bow. The screw has a cluster of integrally formed flexible pins projecting longitudinally from its closed, arrow engaging end and a harder metal expanding screw entered therein. The harder expanding screw being larger than the inside diameter of the hollow arrow spacing screw thereby to expand and lock it in an adjusted position. A modified form of the arrow spacing screw has a cluster of flexible filaments extending longitudinally from and attached to the arrow engaging end of the screw.

Abstract: A space thermostat for switching electrically operated space conditioning apparatus includes an electrically operated timer functioning to periodically change the temperature "set point" of the thermostat, a small rechargeable storage battery for operating the timer, and circuit means all contained within the thermostat casing for charging the battery when the thermostat contacts are closed. In a second form, circuit means all contained within the thermostat casing is provided for continuously charging the battery when the thermostat contacts are open or closed.

Abstract: An electrical resistance heater comprises a unitary ceramic coil support and mounting member having a horizontally elongated coil support portion around which a helical coil of conductive wire is wound and a vertically downward extending leg portion at each end thereof extending through apertures in a mounting plate. The leg portions have vertical slots therein receiving terminal posts extending through the mounting plate and the leg portions being further provided with horizontal grooves therein receiving deformable portions of the mounting plate to rigidly connect the support member thereto.

Abstract: Components of a high voltage power supply are detachably mounted for replacement in predetermined positions in a rigid casing of dielectric material and arranged therein so as to provide the required intercomponent and component to casing electrical clearances for potential differences in excess of 600 volts.

Abstract: An electrostatic air cleaner includes a casing adapted to be mounted in a ceiling or sidewall between ceiling joists or sidewall studs, the casing having an adjustable outlet, a grille and pre-filter detachably connected to its inlet or room side, and an ionizing and collector cell mounted therein for convenient removal or replacement. The cell is detachably pivoted at one end in the casing so that it may be swung outward when removing it from the casing.
