  • Patent number: 4690385
Abstract: An apparatus (1) for storing and maintaining the temperature level of molten metals, such as a cast iron melt which has been treated with pure magnesium. The apparatus includes a heatable furnace chamber (3) having a pressure-tight cover (4) and an inlet and an outlet (2), which also may be provided with a cover (6). The inlet and outlet (2) is preferably formed as a common inlet and outlet siphon. The closed furnace chamber (3) is supplied with a medium such as argon or nitrogen under pressure. A cast iron melt which has been treated with particular additives can be maintained at a certain temperature over longer periods of time with a decaying effect.

  • Patent number: 4684068
Abstract: The crop material or straw discharged from the rear of a combine is spread by a pair of counterrotating spreaders which are vertically and laterally offset from one another and are operative to evenly spread the crop material over a header cut of substantial width. The speed of rotation of the spreaders can be adjusted to change the width of spread. The spreaders can also be adjusted to make them more or less aggressive in throw of discharged crop material. The bottom spreader uses a disc and blades to facilitate catching and spreading discharged material.

  • Patent number: 4672923
Abstract: Each cylinder of a liquid cooled in-line internal combustion engine includes a cylinder pipe surrounded by an annular cooling chamber. The cooling chambers are interconnected in series by crossover passages between adjacent cylinder pipes and the cooling chambers have a greater cross sectional flow area on one side of the longitudinal central plane of the engine than on the other side. This cross sectional flow area relationship is reversed from cylinder to cylinder to thereby cause a meandering course of flow for a portion of the coolant thereby assuring adequate flow around the entire surface of the cylinder pipe and good flushing of the crossover passages between the cylinder pipes.

  • Patent number: 4672981
Abstract: An axial flow combine receives a crop material through a radial feeder opening at one axial end of a foraminous cage in which a coaxial rotor rotates. The cage is disposed within a processor housing and threshed material passing through the radial openings in the cage is accelerated downwardly to the cleaning section by accelerator rolls at the bottom of the processor housing. A portion of the space within the processor housing above the feeder opening is closed off in a unique manner to prevent threshed material from entering the area directly above the feeder opening and to divert threshed material passing through perforations in the cage near the closed-off space axially inward so it slides and falls downward alongside the feeder housing to the accelerator rolls. An overfeed auger is eliminated and a portion of the cage above the feeder opening is solid rather than perforated thus reducing the initial cost of the combine and maintenance expenses without significant reduction in harvesting capacity.

  • Patent number: 4664647
Abstract: A belt pulley 1 for a belt drive presenting a belt groove 3 having a transition area to the radially outer cylindrical surface 2' which is rounded at a decreasing radius. Previously, this corner was merely chamfered or rounded at a small radius, which in use led to mechanical damage to the belt placed on it. This invention provides a parabola-shaped contour for the transition area, which effectively avoids mechanical damage to the belt, wherein the largest radius RO of the transition curve is located at the later's junction with the groove face 4'.

  • Patent number: 4662812
Abstract: An agricultural harvester has a grain bin with an oblique side wall section at one lateral side of the grain bin presenting a discharge opening, an unloading tube with an end portion pivotally mounted on the oblique side wall section for swinging movement about the axis of the discharge opening, and a linear hydraulic actuator and support structure therefor disposed in a pocket in the one lateral side of the grain bin. The cylinder and piston components of the actuator are pivotally connected, respectively, to the support structure and the unloading tube. A grain bin auger is disposed in the bottom of the grain bin, an unloading auger is disposed in the unloading tube and an inclined intermediate auger has its opposite ends connected to ends of the grain bin auger and the unloading tube auger by universal joints. An alignment adjustment joint is provided in the unloading tube to permit offsetting the effect of tolerance buildup occurring in manufacture of the unloading tube and its support structure.

  • Patent number: 4616661
Abstract: A rock door has its front end pivotally mounted on a combine near the crop inlet to the threshing cage and when closed has a pivoted lip structure at its rear end resting on the front end of the threshing concave. The lip structure is releasably held in its normal operating position by a latching mechanism employing a pair of oppositely acting spring biased roller detents engaging opposite sides of a detent finger carried by the lip structure. When a rock of substantial size is conveyed to the gap between the threshing rotor and the door, the force of the rock against the door causes the latch mechanism to release the door allowing the rock to be discharged.

  • Patent number: 4615397
Abstract: A five section implement uses a pair of folding mechanisms to fold primary and secondary wing sections above a central main section. The folding mechanisms are disposed mainly on the top side of the primary wing sections thereby providing adequate space on the top of the main section for mounting containers for dispensing liquid agricultural chemicals. Each folding mechanism includes a lost motion connection permitting floating of the implement sections, automatic lock-out structure for the lost motion connection which operates during fold-up of the implement and an automatic gravity operated latch which insures a proper sequence of unfolding of the wing sections. Each folding mechanism is operated by a single hydraulic actuator and a transport locking bar disposed alongside each actuator is provided with a slide pad to prevent damage to the actuator and other parts during operation of the associated folding mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4598875
Abstract: This invention relates to a vehicle-mounted closed circuit portable crushing and screening plant in which a plurality of units for processing material to be crushed, such as a grizzly, a primary crusher, and a secondary crusher are mounted to discharge their outputs onto the horizontal feeder portion of a dual belt conveyor-elevator having an elevator portion which receives the deposited material from the horizontal feeder portion and elevates such material to and discharges such material into the upper feed end of a vibrating screen device mounted on the vehicle. The vibrating screen device classifies the material deposited thereon for recirculation to the secondary crusher and/or for discharge as a plurality of end products of predetermined size classifications. The vibrating screen device and the dual belt conveyor-elevator are both foldable from an elevated operating position to a retracted transport or storage position.

  • Patent number: 4570806
Abstract: A warehouse system employs a crane guided for movement along an aisle with storage racks on opposite sides thereof and mounting a carriage for vertical reciprocation thereon. An extractor supported on the carriage has a pair of narrow extensible arms which engage the undersides of lips formed on opposite sides of a tote pan. The extensible arms each include three rails nested in one-above-the-other relation with the intermediate rail having vertical load bearing rollers engaging the upper and lower rails. A harmonic drive causes extension and retraction of the extractor arms through a chain and pulley arrangement. The tote pans are nestable and have ribbed bottoms cooperatively engaging cantilevered brackets on the storage racks whereby the pans are releasably detained in their stored position in the warehouse.
