  • Patent number: 4586865
Abstract: A rotatable conveyor apparatus for selectively discharging bulk material in any direction from the hopper of a belly-dump trailer is operatively supported in horizontal cantilever fashion by a rotatable material feed joint located beneath the hopper for rotation about a generally vertical axis. The conveyor and feed joint assembly are rigidly attached to and supported by an elongate, vertically oriented rotary shaft which is journaled in widely-spaced bearings which are positionally fixed by a rigid framework within the hopper of the trailer. The rigidly connected shaft, feed joint, and conveyor are operatively carried by the vehicle and may be rotated in unison to discharge the load to either side of the trailer without operatively disconnecting the conveyor from the trailer.

  • Patent number: 4586703
Abstract: An apparatus for assembling carrier-mounted documents includes a glue station, a folding station and a document feeding station. Adhesive is selectively applied to an elongate sheet of carrier paper having a plurality of transverse perforations. The carrier paper is fed into a moving paddle belt, the paddles striking the carrier paper proximate selected perforations and causing the carrier paper to fold thereon. The paddle belt moves the partially folded carrier paper past a high-speed document feeder where documents are inserted into the folds in the carrier paper and retained there by the previously applied adhesive. The folds in the carrier paper position and align the documents on the carrier paper as they are received from the document feeder. Pin holes along the elongate margins of the carrier paper cooperate with pin chains and pin rollers on the apparatus to time and position the pre-perforated carrier paper with respect to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4582015
Abstract: A ski rack for supporting water skis in a position outboard one side of a water ski tow boat. A pair of support members are held in sockets which can be clamped to portions of the hull of the boat on the inboard side of the gunwale. Arms which are part of the support members extend at a downward slope outside the hull of the boat, and pairs of fingers which are coated with a protective plastic layer extend upwardly generally vertically from the arms, to hold water skis securely between the fingers, out of the way of passengers in the boat and out of the line of sight between the operator of the boat and a water skier being towed.

  • Patent number: 4580561
Abstract: An interstitial implant system for implanting surgical instruments in body tissue comprises a planning bridge and an implant needle applicator. The planning bridge includes a pair of parallel plates positioned one on each side of the body tissue having corresponding matrices of apertures engageable by marking instruments for marking entry and exit points in the tissue thereby determining a series of linear paths. A thumb-slide actuated needle applicator has a tubular needle injector and semicircular arm providing an entry point and a target point which rest, respectively, upon the previously marked body tissue. By holding the applicator at both points, a needle inserted therein will follow the path previously determined by the entry and exit points.

  • Patent number: 4580442
Abstract: A method for locating points of leakage of air from a normally air-filled portion of the piping of a fire sprinkling system by filling the normally air-filled portion of the system with an aqueous solution of an efficient wetting agent, together with a water soluble dye, and applying pressure for a sufficient time to force dye through any leaking portions of the normally dry portion of the sprinkler system, and locating the leaks by visually observing leakage of the dye and wetting agent.

  • Patent number: 4577991
Abstract: A deployable vehicular barricade system includes a plurality of barricade units each having an elongate rigid post slidably received in a below-grade casing. Longitudinally spaced guide plates cooperating between the post and the casing guide the post between an extended position partially projecting from the casing and a retracted position within the casing and also serve to resist vehicular impact to the post in the extended position. A spring in the bottom of the casing and a remotely controlled locking arm and trigger mechanism allow the post to be selectively and instantaneously deployed into the extended position.

  • Patent number: 4575652
Abstract: A permanent magnet motor having a highly nonuniform reluctance gap between rotor and stator creating reluctance torque which aligns the rotor in narrowly-defined detent zones when the motor coils are de-energized. To overcome the high reluctance torque present at the detent zones upon energizing of the coils, small auxiliary coils are provided adjacent the high reluctance regions of the gap to give the rotor a high immediate starting torque to escape the detent zones and rapidly achieve steady-state angular velocity.

  • Patent number: 4571872
Abstract: An assembly for fastening a sling to the front portion of a military rifle or other shoulder weapon in an orientation facilitating carrying such a weapon at the carrier's side in an upright orientation, with the longitudinal axis of the weapon generally horizontal. A main body includes a forked end which fits on a bayonet lug and a bored opposite end which can be attached in a sling swivel mounting position on the weapon. A rotatable pedestal holds a sling swivel on one side of the weapon, where it is rotatable and pivotable about different axes. A second sling swivel can also be installed to one form of the assembly in the conventional military orientation. The construction of the assembly can be integrated into the structure of a front sight assembly.

  • Patent number: 4569465
Abstract: An exercise belt adapted to carry a stereo unit comfortably and stably on the wearer's body during vigorous exercise includes a pair of neoprene bands partially overlapped and joined together at the overlap so as to form a symmetrical belt having an elongate open-ended sleeve in the middle. Velco fastening strips on the outer ends of the bands allow the tension in the belt to be adjusted. The resilient neoprene allows the open ends of the sleeve and the sleeve itself to resiliently deform to receive and retain a stereo unit. When the belt is strapped around the waist of an athlete, the bands and integral sleeve stretch longitudinally, constricting the sleeve to fix the stereo unit within the sleeve and holding the stereo unit snugly to the wearer's body. The neoprene material protects the stereo unit from moisture, from impact, and cushions the athlete from the stereo unit.

  • Patent number: 4569579
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a camera to a supporting structure, such as an automobile window, and permitting instantaneous reorientation of the camera's photographic frame between horizontal and vertical formats. A camera is attached to a mounting arm which is pivotally interposed between two frame members. The frame members are fixed in parallel spaced relation by a spacer therebetween, the spacer also serving to limit rotation of the mounting arm to a 90-degree arc. The camera is attached to the mounting arm in such a location with respect to the pivot point of the mounting arm so as to impart a movement to the mounting arm which urges the mounting arm against the spacer at either extremity of the arc. The frame members and the spacer define two recessed channels to closely receive the mounting arm at either extremity of the arc and stabilize the mounting arm and camera.

  • Patent number: 4564204
Abstract: A spray-suppressing surface configuration for mud flaps and other surfaces near the wheels of motor vehicles. Tapered finger-like projections are oriented in parallel with one another, projecting outward from a base surface at an angle a few degrees below the horizontal, when the base portion of the flap is vertical. The projections are arranged in a pattern of overlappingly adjacent rhombic groups arranged in parallel rows which define unobstructed channels for the flow of accumulated fluids received from the wheels of the vehicle, yet suppress splashing and formation of spray as fluid strikes a flap having such a surface configuration. At least the base surface and fingers may be of a flexible moldable material with an adhesion-resistant surface. Flexibility of the finger-like projections permits snow and ice to fall off the flap easily.

  • Patent number: 4563652
Abstract: A dual-stage band pass-band reject filter with feedback. Two state variable band pass filters with identical topology are cascaded as first and second stages. Each stage employs two inverting adders and two inverting integrators in a state variable topology, and each provides a band pass output and a band reject output. Both stages are selectively tuned to the same fundamental frequency. The filter output may be switched from a band pass to a band reject mode. In the band reject mode decreased attenuation of harmonics of the fundamental frequency is achieved by providing a predetermined amount of feedback from either the band reject output or band pass output of the second stage to the input of a respective one of the two adders of the first stage.
